Last season, CBS went somewhere around 1 for 8 on new shows (only BBT survived), so The Unit may have plenty of hope if that is where the bar is set.

9:00pm Fire Me Please: 6.18 million, 2.4/7

Looking at this rating alone, CBS was crazy cancelling Fire Me Please. This year, they would give anything for a summer show to get those types of demos.

I read somewhere that of all the shows that CBS has premiered on their Fall schedule (September premiering shows) for the past three years BBT is the only surviving new show still on their schedule. They have canceled something like 15 of the past 16 Fall premiering shows over the past three years. All their other shows that have premiered in the past three years, and are still around all were midseason entries. If you are on CBS you are better off being a midseason replacement than a September premiering show if you are to survive.

Same thing with Harper's Island. They said they were recasting but I've heard nothing about the new version of Harper's Island since its pick up. No word yet on whose in the cast and how the storylines are changing. You would think CBS would have said something else about it. Perhaps they are focusing on their fall series first.

I'm wondering if CBS is waiting to see what happens with SAG and its summer series before it really starts ramping up its midseason development like the other nets??!

I've heard they're considering another winter edition of BB if the show can bounce back this summer, and I'm sure they're curious as to how that Dog show and Flashpoint are received. Personally, I'm hoping that Flashpoint does well, as it's a much cheaper Canadian production and CBS could place it on Fridays at 10:00 and move Numb3rs to 9:00.

We also have to remember that The Amazing Race and likely Survivor will need a midseason filler here or there too so even if the Towers gets 10pm Sunday, the Unit could still be used as filler.

True, but I think next season, CBS needs to concentrate on regaining its total viewer crown and focusing on the 25-54 demo. In this situation, Password should help.

However, I too would like to see it strictly as a summer series or something that could help fill in between seasons of Survivor and TAR. Hopefully, CBS won't have too many holes to where they need to use it more than that.

As for The Unit, don't get me wrong, I like the show and it does appear to have a loyal viewership as evidenced by how it performed in USA Today's "Save Our Show" poll, but I'm thinking it will have to essentially maintain its total viewership and demos from last fall in its new Sunday timeslot in order for CBS to give it a shot past midseason.

That's because CBS has been reaching in its series development in order to "create buzz" and "get younger". They need to stick with what's worked in the past and try to attract a different type of viewer with higher quality productions that have better storylines, direction, and casting. Oh, and it also wouldn't hurt if CBS would actually learn how to continually promote their programs.

That could very well be the reason. I don't think the dog show has much of a chance and Flashpoint has a better chance of making it if it goes after CSI. But I could see it holding the Numbers audience very well and becoming an option for them. As for The Tower and Harper's Island, the synopsis of both of them are good and they both could be break out hits if done with quality in mind. So taking it slow and slowly building up anticipation may work to CBS' advantage.

Not wanting to sound alarmist or anything, but the numbers for The Unit and Eli Stone are both very concerning. The numbers garnered by both series have established new all-time network lows for CBS and ABC.

Yes, neither series repeats well, but with numbers this low, encoring them, even on Saturdays, is not a wise use of airspace. And without encores, how will CBS and ABC ever earn sufficient payback on their licensing fees?

You should note in the year to year comparisons for all networks that the July 4th holiday in 2007 was outside of the sweeps period.

Good news for Harper's Island then. Smiler

I know this episode originally aired last Tuesday night, but does anyone have any thoughts of what occurred on MTV's "A Shot at Love 2 with Tila Tequila"? This is the danger of me following a romance-type reality show - the end result turns out to be less than satisfying (to state the least!)

Thanx, Justin...Loox as if many originals did OK on the 5th, even some that turned out to be sour grapes later.(Fire Me, Please, Bad Girls' Guide) reckon I was at least partially wrong, but here it was nice weather, & people were shooting off left-over fireworx,(They wouldn't likely have a shelf life till Labor Day) plus, the local pools were open late. Nationwide, similar factors, plus its being Saturday, kinda kicked TV viewing in the teeth.

Again, THANX!

I dunno of anyone else who even knew or cared it was on, let alone actually WATCHED it.(Not trying to be smart-aleck, but I'd sooner watch a collection of old cigarette commercials, & I don't smoke.)

I think the night overall was affected by a Saturday July 5, with outdoors holiday spirit prevailing. Does anyone have a set of stats for previous July 5s?
