Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 20 percent at this same point last year to approximately 28 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS and ABC shared Sunday dominance, with football ignited CBS the most-watched network and ABC and CBS tied for No. 1 for No. 1 among adults 18-49. Even so, a 3.7 rating/9 share in the demo for ABC is a noticeable 20 percent dip from one year earlier. A good portion of CBS’ victory can be attributed to an approximate 45-minute prime-time Football over-run. Take a look at the results for CBS by half-hour, and keep in mind that everything is approximate due to football.
ABC combination of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 8.17 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 6), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 10.78 million; A18-49: #2, 3.6/ 9), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 15.25 million; A18-49: #1, 5.7/13) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #2, 10.03 million; A18-49: #1, 3.5/ 8) was certainly competitive, but it is no longer the force it once was. One year earlier, Desperate Housewives averaged a considerably heftier 18.21 million viewers and a 7.3/16 in the demo. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, meanwhile, dropped by 2.94 million viewers (13.72 to 10.78) and 29 percent among adults 18-49 (5.1/12 to 3.6/ 9) from the Oct. 21, 2007 telecast.
Over at NBC, the New England Patriots at San Diego Chargers match-up on Sunday Night Football sunk to a season low, with an approximate 8.40 million viewers and a 3.2/ 8 among adults 18-49 from 8:30-11 p.m. Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America at a typically lackluster 5.36 million viewers (#3) and a 2.0/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#4) from 7-8 p.m., with an improved 7.48 million viewers (#4) and a 2.8/ 7 in the demo (#4) in the 8 p.m. half-hour.
Fox kicked-off Sunday with two repeat episodes of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.38 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 2.0/ 6 from 7-8 p.m.), followed by the regularly scheduled rotation of The Simpsons (Viewers: #3, 8.09 million; A18-49: #1, 3.8/10), King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 7.35 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 8), Family Guy (Viewers: #4, 9.07 million; A18-49: #2, 4.7/10) and American Dad (Viewers: #4, 6.61 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.3/ 7) from 8-10 p.m. Worth noting for Family Guy was growth of 34 percent in the demo from King of the Hill.
Last, and very least, was the CW’s almost invisible line-up of In Harm’s Way (Viewers: 634,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 1), Valentine (Viewers: 718,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 1) and Easy Money (Viewers: 721,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 0 – yes a zero share!). As reported last week, production on Valentine and Easy Money has been shut down for the time being. You’re not surprised, are you?
TAR did pretty well I think, despite the 45 minute delay..
Marc, any word on what the ratings were for TBS for the Rays/Red Sox game last night? Fox execs must be shaking their heads...it's not the absolute worst World Series scenario they could have gotten when the playoffs started (that would have been Brewers/Rays), but it's darn close (they'll have the Philly market, but there's not a lot of national interest that they would have had if the Dodgers or Red Sox, or both, had made it- The West Coast isn't going to be interested that much in an East Coast series, especially one with a team like the Rays..)
I keep hoping for a Royals/Pirates World Series. That would probably kill sports on Fox. IMO, that network does such a hideous job with sports that it should never be allowed to broadcast another sporting event again.
B&S needs to be moved ASAP. Those numbers are terrible.
And by huge drop with EM:HE, you mean about 1 million in viewers and .1 in the demos from its normal numbers this season. I know we like to compare year to year but with ABC's situation they can't. Last year is meaningless. This year is a disaster and I can guarentee you Sundays 7 to 10 PM isn't the problem. Now Sundays at 10 is a giant ratings black hole.
With EM:HE, when there is a football overrun, it's numbers drop. I haven't been able to figure out why. But still, with the rate ABC is going, EM:HE is a huge win. It builds tremendously from AFV.
DH is just getting old. However, it's numbers is still some of the tops of any network. ABC is doing back flips right now at those ratings.
By mid-season, I'd try something new at 7 PM, EM:HE at 8, DH at 9 PM and something new at 10 PM.

I don't think anyone is shocked that the MRC Block is doing this bad. It just wasn't going to work.
However, In Harm's Way is so cheap to produce that there is a possibility of saving it as it could still make money for them. The other two are lost causes though. I don't expect the productions to open back up.

If ABC had a more stable slate of shows, I would see reason for them to be a bit worried about Sunday.
However, with Tuesday at 8 and 10, Wednesday night completely, Thursday at 8 and 10, and Friday all doing horrible, I don't think the network is all that worried about DH or B&S with those numbers.
Sunday is a very good night for them, and I am sure the execs are not sitting thinking about that evening. At the very least, they should be spending their time figuring out how the heck to be competitive without Dancing, DH, B&S, and GA.
CBS Wins Week 4 in Demo and Viewers...Its Third Consecutive Week as Top Broadcaster
Based on four nights of finals and three nights of preliminaries, CBS triumphed again last week (for the third week in a row) in both A18-49 and viewers. ABC came in second on both measures, and NBC third, just ahead of FOX. The CW in fifth fell below 1.0 in A18-49, largely due to its viewer/demo-starved Sunday night line-up.

And even though I am a huge fan of both DH and B&S (and think both are having really strong seasons thus far), I am being serious when I say that ABC has more to worry about.
They need to come up with some kind of plan to stop the massive holes they are having with shows like Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Life On Mars, and Eli Stone. Heck, even Ugly Betty is not looking healthy.
Boston Legal is gone in about 9 weeks, so that's it. Lost will return eventually, which should give them some hope, but they really need to pay attention to the struggling nights.
Sunday is not at all struggling. If ABC were doing great Mon-Thu, I would see a reason to be worried about Sunday.
