Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 20 percent at this same point last year to approximately 28 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC led this atypical Wednesday, which featured the third (and final) Presidential debate. NBC finished first in both total viewers and adults 18-49, beating second-place ABC by 830,000 viewers and 28 percent in the demo.

CBS got a boost in the 8 p.m. hour care of The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #1, 7.74 million; A18-49: #1t, 2.1/ 6) and Gary Unmarried (Viewers: #3, 7.71 million; A18-49: #3, 2.4/ 7). The two sitcoms, on average, beat year-ago occupant Kid Nation (Viewers: 7.35 million; A18-49: #2, 2.4/ 7 on Oct. 17, 2007) by 370,000 viewers. And Gary Unmarried built by Old Christine by 14 percent in the demo. Sounds like Gary Unmarried is on the verge of getting a full season pick-up, doesn’t it?

Also in the 8 p.m. hour was NBC’s Knight Rider (Viewers: #2, 7.65 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 7), which is not the total bust everyone seems to think; ABC’s Pushing Daisies (Viewers: 6.29 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 6), which dropped considerably from one year earlier (Viewers: 9.86 million; A18-49: 3.7/10 on Oct. 17, 2007); and America’s Next Top Model on the CW (Viewers: #5, 3.18 million; A18-49: #5, 1.5/ 4), which was a clips edition (hence the lower than normal performance). Over at Fox, game five of the National League Championship Series (Los Angeles vs. Philadelphia) averaged an approximate 7.26 million viewers and a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49 in prime-time, with the half-hour breakdown as follows:

NLCS, Game 5
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.19 million (#2), A18-49: 2.1/ 6 (#1t)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.28 million (#2), A18-49: 2.4/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.06 million (#4), A18-49: 2.3/ 5 (#4)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.60 million (#4), A18-49: 2.2/ 5 (#4)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.94 million (#4), A18-49: 2.4/ 6 (#4)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.51 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#2)

Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Congratulations, Phillies!

Coverage of the final Presidential Debate on the Big 3 networks scored as follows from 9-10:30 p.m.

NBC – Viewers: 10.34 million, A18-49: 3.9/ 9
ABC – Viewers: 9.66 million, A18-49: 2.9/ 7
CBS – Viewers: 8.91 million, A18-49: 2.6/ 7

Combined that equals an estimated 28.91 million viewers and a 9.4/23 among adults 18-49. And the half-hour analysis fared as follows at 10:30 p.m.:

NBC – Viewers: 8.19 million, A18-49: 2.9/ 7
ABC – Viewers: 8.00 million, A18-49: 2.3/ 6
CBS – Viewers: 6.80 million, A18-49: 2.1/ 5

Also airing last night was a repeat of the CW’s 90210 at 1.70 million viewers and a 0.9/ 2 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m.

I hope that for people who sampled Christine, this show will become a weekly habit.

I was hoping for 8 million, but nice little boosts for Old Christine and Gary Unmarried. The only thing I think is the demos stayed about the same. Let's see if they can keep rising when Bones returns.

While I know Phoenix isn't a huge market, but Pushing Daisies and Knight Rider along with all our usual 7PM shows were all pushed back to 8PM because of the debate (6PM-8PM). There sure aren't 3M of us in the MST timezone to account for the YTY drop...

I wouldn't go that far. The show has improved (quality wise) in recent episodes.

Just want to point out that the debates were on from 6-8 on the west coast, which would explain the upticks in the 8PM hour.

PD has slipped below 2.0 in the demo. With basically no youth-oriented competition in its timeslot at all last night.

ABC, what the heck are you waiting for?

To the point where it's only a national embarrassment, as opposed to a national disgrace?

1.9 for PD is just horrible. No way to spin it

Encouraging numbers for GU, but i don't think they are full season numbers just yet

I was expecting more for the debate

robert, the debate is over. We know who would make the best President. Now we just have to decide if we're ready to admit it.

The polls would seem to indicate that yes, we are. Let's hope they're right.
