----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
There was little of note of this typical summer Sunday, with CBS first overall in total viewers and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. A repeat of perennial 60 Minutes kicked-off the evening first for the Eye net in total viewers (8.02 million) and second among adults 18-49 (1.4 rating/ 5 share). Just the opposite was a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC, with 5.12 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 1.5/ 6 in the demo. Also airing in the hour was the first half of a two-hour edition of NBC’s Dateline (Viewers: #3, 3.94 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 3), repeats of Fox sitcoms The War at Home (Viewers: #4, 2.08 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.9/ 3) and King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 2.44 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4), and two repeat episodes of the CW’s canceled Reba (Viewers: #5, 1.90 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2). Overall, Dateline averaged 5.12 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 7-9 p.m.

In time period-premiere news, CBS’ already addictive Big Brother 8 moved into the 8 p.m. hour with 5.93 million viewers (#2) and a 2.1/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#2). Comparably, Thursday’s official season-premiere opened three days earlier with 7.44 million viewers and a 2.7/ 9 in the demo (also based on the fast affiliate results). While that is a loss of a hefty 1.51 million viewers and 22 percent among adults 18-49, keep in mind that growth over lead-in 60 Minutes was 50 percent in the demo.

Also airing from 8-9 p.m. was the second hour of NBC’s aforementioned Dateline (Viewers: #1, 6.29 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 4), repeats of Fox’s The Simpsons (Viewers: #3, 5.18 million; A18-49: #1, 2.5/ 8) and American Dad (Viewers: #4, 4.72 million; A18-49: #1, 2.4/ 7), a repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC (Viewers: #3, 5.24 million; A18-49: #3, 1.7/ 6), and an encore telecast of the CW’s canceled 7th Heaven (Viewers: #5, 1.11 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1).

A repeat of CBS’ underrated Cold Case led the 9 p.m. hour in total viewers (7.09 million), with a second-place finish among adults 18-49 (1.7/ 5). Fox’s double repeat dose of Family Guy (Viewers: #2, avg. 6.07 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 2.5/ 8) won the hour in the demo. Also airing from 9-10 p.m. was a repeat of NBC’s Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 5.99 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 4), a repeat of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers; #4, 3.33 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 3), and a repeat of the CW’s Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.04 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1).

Leadership remained mixed at 10 p.m., with a repeat of Brothers & Sisters third in both categories. Take a look:

Sunday 10 p.m.
Without a Trace R (CBS)
Viewers: 7.31 million (#1), A18-49: 1.7/ 5 (#2)

Law & Order: SVU R (NBC)
Viewers: 6.56 million (#2), A18-49: 1.9/ 5 (#1)

Brothers & Sisters R (ABC)
Viewers: 2.77 million (#3), A18-49: 0.9/ 3 (#3)

Mark I am farly new with the ratings and have never followed summer ratings before. I was just wondering if 5.93M viewers for big brother last night is still considered good? the drop off from the premiere has me slightly conserned. this show is awesome!

Thanks for your help
Mike

You know what -- it's not great. And the ratings for Big Brother keep dropping every season. But of bigger concern are the young adult ratings, which are still okay. For a lazy summer, the inexpensive to produce BB is still a good option.

Just for perspective....

BB did about that last season for its first Sunday episode, and then grew for the remainder of the summer. It always builds as the summer wears on.

Would you say this is the last season for Big Brother? It seems almost worthless to renew.

If memory serves correctly, I believe the Sunday editions of “Big Brother: All-Stars” last summer (the first season to air on Sundays) was the lowest rated of the three weekly broadcasts.

Also, did ABC air two episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” last night or did “Desperate Housewives” air at 9:00 p.m. as scheduled?

Oh CRAP! I forgot Big Brother was airing on Sundays! Frowner I missed it!

Maybe to help with viewers CBS should switch Cold Case and Big Brother.

7th Heaven's season high rating was 4.51 million viewers, on Sunday 11/19/06. It's safe to say the season premiere of Reba helped that bump those Sunday numbers from the mid 3 millions it was getting for almost a month.

Good catch!

Yes, Marc, Desperate Housewives aired last night at 9 -- I watched it myself.\

By the way, last night's repeat episode of B&S, originally airing 11/19/06, was one of the best hours of television from the 2006-07 season, in my opinion. I couldn't help but watch it again last night,

Considering how poorly CBS reality has been, they really don't have anything better to air. Pirate Master seems to be a bust at least ratings wise (I find it to be much fresher than Survivor). Rockstar never found much in terms of viewers. I'm not expecting much out of Power of 10, so I'd say if Tuesday and Thursday numbers remain above a 2.5, then it will return again next year.

I'm pretty sure it makes a lot of money for CBS.
