-Ratings Breakdown: CBS attracted the most number of eyeballs on this typical summer Monday (despite airing all repeats), while Hell’s Kitchen lifted Fox to a narrow victory among adults 18-49. Back-to-back encore telecasts of CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine opened with an average 6.12 million viewers (#1) and a 1.9 rating/6 share among adults 18-49 (#2) from 8-9 p.m. That led into repeats of Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #1, 8.44 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 7), How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 6.73 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 6), and old faithful CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 7.96 million; A18-49: #1, 2.2/ 6) from 9-11 p.m. There is no reason to believe that CSI: Miami will lose its winning grip opposite ABC’s veteran The Bachelor and NBC’s freshman Journeyman next season.
Fox kicked-off the evening with reality/competition dud On the Lot (Viewers: #4, 2.50 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3), followed by summer favorite Hell’s Kitchen at a healthy 7.33 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 3.5/10 among adults 18-49. In other words, do not rule out Chef Gordon Ramsay’s upcoming Kitchen Nightmares this fall on Fox (Thursday at 9 p.m. out of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) by any means.
ABC finished third overall in both total viewers and adults 18-49 as a result of a repeat of Wife Swap (Viewers: #2, 5.61 million; A18-49: #1, 2.1/ 7), another burn-off episode of Extreme Makeover (Viewers: #3, 4.90 million; A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5), and a repeat of Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 4.64 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 5). As a reminder, both Wife Swap and Supernanny will be back with new episodes in midseason.
NBC had what you could call a typical summer Monday with its line-up of a repeat of the creepy Age of Love (Viewers: #3, 3.72 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 4), an original installment of Age of Love (Viewers: #4, 4.60 million; A18-49: #4, 1.8/ 5), and a 10 p.m. edition of Dateline (Viewers: #2, 7.8 million; A18-49: #1, 2.4/ 7), which built from Age of Love at 9 p.m. by a hefty 2.58 million viewers and 33 percent among adults 18-49.
Wrapping up the evening were repeats of CW comedies Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 1.89 million; A18-49: 0.8/ 3), All of Us (Viewers: 1.61 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2), Girlfriends (Viewers: 1.50 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 2) and The Game (Viewers: 1.44 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 2).
Looks like most shows were up from recent monday airings. The CW shows are up a couple 100K each. Old Christine found about another 1/2 million viewers. I think The Lot had a small bump up.
EM was down a little despite last week being a "Holiday" week.
This year's Hell's Kitchen contestants are really pathetic. I can't see any of them really running their own restaurant! Rock... maybe and he was right to be upset at the "fixed" competition. It was obvious that Gordon wanted the gals to win because he was going to pose on the cover a magazine with them.

Marc, could you give us the half hour numbers for the two episodes? I'm curious how the half hours change compared to what goes on in the regular season when HIMYM usually performs slightly better than its lead-out.

Totally agreed. I would not ingest anything that these people had gotten anywhere near, let alone touched. Especially Jen who seems to think it's fine to get food out of the trash and serve it. Whenever I see her I think of George Costanza. "It was a perfectly good eclair!"
But, I will say, in the case of Hell's Kitchen, the more inept the contestants, the better the show gets... for better or for worse that seems to be the way it is.
Hard to argue with Marc's prediction of MIAMI winning the hour again next year.
That said, I see a steep decline from Seas 3 to Seas 5 in quality, and there has been some ratings decline, largely masked by it easily winning the hour. An imbalanced cast has probably taken some toll. And while the writing credits indicate the same team has been in place for years, the show is not getting into some of the imaginative arcs the orig got into with the miniature murders and Keppler (sp?) to remain fresh. While orig declined more, it wasn't the quality that pulled it down.
Barring corrections, regardless of what JOURNEYMAN does, I see the show having a tough time cracking 17mm, and perhaps sinking below 15mm at least a few times.

Well, the quality has fallen off. But viewers cannot get enough of the sunglasses exchanges by David Caruso.

I guess you could say ABC and NBC have gone on a summer vacation.
