-Repeat Alert: 31 percent of last night’s schedule was non-originals.

-Ratings Breakdown: Fox’s reliable So You Think You Can Dance remained just that, with a dominant 8.11 million viewers and a 3.0 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. But wasn’t last night’s episode, which should have been one hour, painfully slow? With two fewer contestants each week, how are the producers going to keep stretching it out? For more on So You Think You Can Dance, listen to today’s PIPodcast at www.marcberman.tv. In series-premiere news, NBC’s Baby Borrowers was sampled with 7.82 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 2.8/ 8 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that built from lead-in Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #2, 6.59 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 1.23 million viewers and a hefty 75 percent in the demo. Considerably less promising on NBC was Celebrity Circus, now at 10 p.m., with 5.67 million viewers (#3) and a 2.0/ 6 in the demo (#1). That put retention for Celebrity Circus out of the second-half of lead-in Baby Borrowers (Viewers: #3, 8.02 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 8 at 9:30 p.m.) at a so-so 71 percent in viewers and 67 percent among adults 18-49.
In season-premiere news, the return of ABC’s Primetime: Crime finished second at 10 p.m., with 6.77 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that built from a repeat of lead-in Supernanny (Viewers: #4, 5.45 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.6/ 5 at 9 p.m.) by 1.22 million viewers and 12 percent in the demo. Earlier in the evening on ABC was a repeat of Wife Swap at 4.51 million viewers (#4) and a second-place 1.7/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.
CBS finished second overall in total viewers and fourth among adults 18-49 with its encore combination of The Price is Right (Viewers: #4, 5.90 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 5), Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 7.95 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 5) and CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 7.67 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5).
In season (or series) finale news was the CW’s Farmer Wants a Wife at a last-place 2.45 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49. While that may not sound impressive, it did more than manage to double a repeat of lead-in America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.12 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 2 at 8 p.m.). Instead of repeating Top Model in the Friday 9 p.m. hour next season, why not at least put in an original reality/competition?
Good start for Baby Borrowers...helps that months of promotion by the Peacock were a factor.
I'm concerned that the show's ratings could plunge as the weeks go by. There was a curiosity by viewers, but are they going to stick around to watch these couples parent pre-teens, teens and the elderly? Babies are cute and always a ratings ploy, but once they get older...
Next week, the show moves to 8p opposite the first half of Dance, TPiR and Wife Swap. It should finish second in both overall and 18-49, but I could see a drop of around 1M in the ratings.

It was in the summer and it had over 2 million viewers each episode. Most of The CW shows were lucky to get that in the regular season. I would renew it and put it at 9pm in the fall on Friday's, or renew it for the summer.

NBC isn't killing DOND. Game shows just don't last very long. There is no reason to believe DOND ratings would improve if they gave it a rest. Better for NBC to milk as much money out of it as it can now.
