For those looking for a family comedy, it looks like ABC is going to try:

Family values: Wayans back for ABC sitcom
By Nellie Andreeva

Oct 17, 2007

It's a family reunion for Damon Wayans and ABC.

Wayans, star of the network's long-running comedy "My Wife & Kids," is back co-creating and toplining a new multicamera family sitcom for the network.
Like "Wife," the untitled project will be written and executive produced by Wayans and Don Reo and produced by ABC Studios. It is said to be edgier in tone than "Wife" and will star Wayans as a recent widower who has to take in the 19-year-old stepson he never knew.

"Wife," which starred Wayans as a father of three, bowed out in April 2005 after five seasons. Since then, Wayans and Reo had been looking to collaborate on a new series project and, after bouncing around different ideas, settled on the premise of a widower living with his stepson.

The project garnered interest from several networks before landing at ABC with a script commitment.

The Wayans/Reo project marks the second multicamera family comedy starring a black comedian that ABC has in the works for next season. The network also greenlighted a pilot for a sitcom starring Cedric the Entertainer, which starts production next week.

Wayans is repped by ICM and attorney Bob Lange. Reo is repped by Paradigm.

Never got into My Wife and Kids, but have always enjoyed Damon Wayans.

Hopefully this can be a fun show.

I loved watching the My Wife and Kids repeats in syndication. This is a step in the right direction. Now lets add at least one more family comedy next year and try to build up a base. Dancing is a great way to promote for a family show on Tuesday nights at 9, where ABC has traditionally done well with comedies (Home Improvement, Spin City, According to Jim, Dharma and Greg).

Maybe with this show and Cedric the Entertainer's new show, ATJ will finally be put out of its misery.

I agree with you mushu -- ABC needs some multi-cam sitcoms to try to rebuild a comedy night. While I grew tired of ATJ, GL, and Wayans old show, a new, fresh, hip sitcom ala Home Improvement could be the key to success.

Hopefully they'll also consider adding family dramas as well. Network tv (the big 4 at least) are completely devoid of them right now!

I felt the final season of GLo was actually one of its best. The newer niece character was a welcome addition over the annoying daughter. Unfortuantely, ABC never even tried to build up a base around GLo and Jim that was compatible. Freddie wasn't half bad, but ABC didn't seem to want to make the attempts to making it better.

Not sure i can agree on one of it's best seasons - some of the episodes were kind of preechy and boring (the one with the Sexual deviant who was a woman) while others were comedy at it's best (where George ate the worm and hallucinated he was marrying Ernie), but overall, deserved another season as did Freddie, which would have done much better if it actually came through on being more of a family comedy instead of always focusing on their sexual shenanigans.

I didn't watch GLO much the first few years so enjoying the reruns.
