I agree with most of the group about Miss/Guided.
The Mrs. and I caught one of the episodes last night, and we got a few good laughs out of it -- the Mrs. (who happens to be a schoolteacher) more than me.
As my wife and mother-in-law (who also happens to be a schoolteacher) noted to me, there was a sense of realism to the plotlines showcased in the 8:30p episode -- teachers do wonder what students say about them online, and some teacher do what they can trying to be "hip" and "cool" to their classes -- and they thought the show handled the mix of realism and absurdity well.
I slightly disagreed -- I think the show has promise, but it needs to work on its balance and laugh consistency. It should be absurd, but not too absurd.
I've never heard of Judy Greer, but she more than holds her own as the lead. Chris Parnell is a scene-stealer (and the show is using him in a way SNL should have used him -- in short spurts). Don't care much for the actor playing the dopey Spanish teacher, though.

I agree with EVERYTHING you just wrote.
I have a dvr now- so it really changes the way I watch TV. I record episodes of Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls, Dark Angel and the Office. I also bought DVD sets of Dark Angel, Sports Night, Once and Again, the Office and GG.
I would much rather watch those shows- or catch an repeat of Friends, Seinfeld or Will & Grace then watch 90% of the crap on primetime.
I also enjoy Eli Stone.
Thanks Thrillcat.

Ouch for Miss Guided's 6 million ratings.
In terms of quality, I think that it's miles beyond ABC's other comedies According to Jim, Just for Laughs, Notes from the Underbelly and the soon to be imported Scrubs.

I liked Notes but it was far from perfect. I would agree that its probably better than those other 3 with the latter being a show that just won't die and will in the end, probably get picked up again by NBC, who could expand its comedies to another night if they feel they have enough.

NBC just never got over losing Friends and Frasier. After Will & Grace ended (and Joey and Coupling failing to meet expectations) and Ny Name is Earl and The Office being hits, but not mega-hits, I guess that means Scrubs (& 30 Rock) are going to be around for bit longer.

Will & Grace was as big of a hit as The Office is, or now, was. It only got 8-10 million. NBC just doesn't know what a comedy is anymore, CBS is a lot better in that department these days.

W&G struggled its final season or two, pulling in around 8 million. Nevertheless, that was still better than every comedy save for the Office on NBC today. At its height, the show was more popular than 2.5 Men.

Anything with DWTS would do well. quote: Originally posted by yankeesrj12: Miss Guided is probably doing better then Samantha Who right now. The only reason it got picked up was because of the Dancing with the Stars lead in.

I agree that this is ABC's best comedy i a while -- in my view, since its comedy heydays in the 90s. I don't think it's numbers are as bad as you think -- I posted my assessment in the daily thread, but I'll add here since they're about Miss/Guided -- considering the state of comedy in general, I am actually heartened by its numbers...

And here's how I view the ratings results from Thursdays episodes: quote: Originally posted by Chimera: quote: Miss Guided (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.34 million (#4), A18-49: 2.1/ 7 (#2t) – time period premiere 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.34 million (#4), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#3)
I disagree anout Miss/Guided being labeled a loser. It kept 100% of its viewers and actually built on its demo numbers in the 2nd half-hour. Almost unheard of in a new show in its 2nd and 3rd episodes. Considering the 1st episode was such a weird scheduling decision, I consider these numbers very good. Viewers liked what they saw and stuck around for more -- I for one am hooked and love this show. It is a perfect companion to SW and is likely to hold or build on SW's numbers if paired together. I would not and did not expect it to perform any better than it did on its own on Thursday. Compare these results to the last network comedy to premiere, The Return of Jezebel James which had arguably more promotion: 3.11 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 in the demo... Yes, Miss/Guided has found an audience, and is loved by both critics and viewers alike.

Add Unhitched to the list of other recent comedies to have faired significantly worse than Miss/Guided -- and Unhitched had the popular Family Guy as its regular lead-in, and could only muster 3.05 million viewers and a 1.5 in the demo in its latest outing. Miss/Guided is showing that it can be a self-starter with the results from Thursday and the growth it showed in its 2nd half hour. Don't count it out yet.

Yes and the popular Family Guy pulled in less than 5 million for the recent ep. Forget that the 9:30pm slot is basically a death slot for new shows after Family Guy and the show debuted at a later 10pm time.
