As I mentioned, I loved the original Mole, but hated, despised even, the Celebrity Editions. I really hope the host is not somebody like Stephen Baldin or Corbin Bensen, because that would probably be enough to keep me from watching. It really needs to be somebody in AC's mold, not a D-list celebrity.

How did the Mole perform in viewers?

I found an old release: "The ABC reality series attracted 7.4 million viewers and a 3.5 rating, 10 share with Adults 18-49, placing a solid second to Fox's "American Idol" on both measures. "This was in a summer month (August)! According to the same release, it "produced ABC's highest rating in the time period among Adults 18-34 (3.9/11) in 9 months (since 11/06/01) with entertainment programming. In addition, the series delivered the Network's best performance in the time-slot with Men 18-34 (3.6/11) in nearly 1 year (since 9/25/01)." ABC is lucky to get such numbers in the regular season these days. But again, to me a lot rides on finding the right host. If they do, this franchise can be back for more than one season...

It did well-ish everywhere it aired (mostly in 18-34, as noted), except for the beginning of the 2nd season, which was shown Fridays at 8:00. Luckily, ABC came to the rescue by pulling it after 3 episodes and putting it on hiatus for 6 months (cough, cough). While CBS and NBC went out of their way to trot the contestants of "Survivor," "Big Brother," "The Amazing Race" and "The Apprentice" through "The Early Show" and "Today" -- and while FOX ensures the "Idol" wannabes are on EVERYTHING -- as far as "Good Morning America" was concerned, "The Mole" didn't exist. So the ratings were never what they could've been were, you know, ABC not run by semi-unintelligent chimpanzees.

The Bachelorette is being brought back too. Why not have the lucky lady be Lorena Bobbit? I'm sure having a celebrity as the Bachelorette would bring in ratings and make for some very interesting TV.

During promos of the return of scripted TV, on each of them you see The Mole logo at the end for a split second. Very cool and interesting! Samantha Who (April 7) promo, Desperate Housewives (April 13), and Grey's Anatomy (April 24) promo had it for sure. I bet The Mole will premiere in May.

I saw them mainly during LOST on Thursday -- I think that was a great idea, because LOST viewers are very observant. I'm going to check out the LOST forums to see if they caught it. I can't believe how 1 split second can provide several frames of info on DVR playback... Very cool idea by ABC, and I agree it must mean they are bringing it back in May, perhaps towards the end of the sweeps, but possibly sooner. Any news on the new host yet Zedman?

More info confirming this: http://www.jossip.com/abcs-subliminal-advertising-calls...s-old-show-20080321/quote: That wasn’t your television breaking down during last night’s Lost. Just ABC’s marketing department trying to get your attention.
Oh, you didn’t catch it? At the end of at least three commercial breaks, just after the quick promos for other ABC shows aired and just before the screen flipped back to Lost, a millisecond blast for The Mole showed up.
You may have seen that The Mole’s thumb print or logo appear. An ABC spokesperson confirms to us those “flash teases” – they don’t want to call it subliminal advertising – were not a figment of your imagination, and that they will show up again as the network moves forward with plans to relaunch the show.

I found this interesting little factoid: Grant Bowler, who plays the Captain of the freighter on LOST, hosted the Australian version of The Mole. I wonder if there's a chance he will be the new host of The Mole here? It would make the promo during LOST that more interesting...

The Mole was an entertaining reality show that always had you on your toes wondering who it was. I'm excited for its return.

More power to ya robycop -- I'm glad you have multiple forms of entertainment. But why did you feel like you had to post twice in this thread just to say you're are NOT going to watch this show? Do you do that for every show you don't watch, or is there something in particular about The Mole that you dislike? I think The Mole and The Bachelor/Bachelorette are two completely different types of shows -- The Mole is closer to The Amazing Race, which has won multiple Emmys...
