I'd say weak NBA action is as much to blame as premise.

Riff I think you're underestimating Nascar fans and Shaq is still the only player in the NBA people care about. The I-Caught is certainly intriguing, but Primetime is far from ratings fire these days (of course it never really was a hit by any means).
I agree. I think Fast Cars & Superstars has a good chance of being a summer hit. It is one of the very few Celebreality show I actually look forward too.
Nascar has a lot of fans in this country. They were trying to appeal to sports enthuiasts, and ABC was clearly hoping for pre-tune in on the east and tune out on the west for the show. A very weak opening for the basketball finals did not help things.

This idea has very limited appeal.

I think you give the pre-tune in factor too much credit. I can understand it for vastly popular shows like American Idol and well American Idol, but not for much else.

And the NBA game didn't even start until 9 pm. As for Fast Cars, at least they kept it to a half hour, and it felt stretched out at that.
Well the program that airs around the NBA finals always seemed to do well in the past. Last year, I believe According to Jim had his highest ratings of the summer there. The year before, the cancelled My Wife and Kids outdid the originals numbers from earlier in the year.

But you have to consider how many middling performers ABC renewed this season... and the fact that ABC shows across the board just don't repeat well.
Big Shots has been billed as "DH for men", yes... but it's really "DH about men for women". Between the soap/camp elements and the eye-candy...

As with any Reality/Unscripted show, you never know what will click with the TV Viewers.
Having seen the show, it is a little on the boring side, at least during the "time Trials". Not much drama or excitement. If they had actuall mni races, or see them have head to head comeptitions, it my be a little better.

Subtract their 4 signature hits, and ABC is nothing but middling performers.
It probably wasn't in ABC's best interests to repeat last season -- where nothing was renewed save for two shows (one of which has since been cancelled, the other of which lost half its audience over the course of its first season). Then again, it wasn't in their best interest to renew "Men in Trees."
And "Big Shots?" A guy show? How did THAT get on ABC?
