Related news for those putting together mock ABC schedules:
quote:
Bader says ABC will probably deliver just one or two new dramas and four rookie comedies before the upfronts -- making for the shortest pilot screening session ever. (Bader quips, "It's a pilot tea.")
Wow -- not since the late 90s has ABC, or any network for that matter, planned to premiere more comedies than dramas in the Fall. 4 new comedies and only 2 new dramas...
My guess on which ones they will be:
Dramas - 2 of the following 3: - Life on Mars - Leap - Section 8
Comedies: - The Goode Family - Literary Superstar - Cedric the Entertainer - UNTITLED KOHAN & MUTCHNICK PROJECT
After reading the Hollywood reporter article, ABC is definitely going for stability for this coming fall. This is good news for the sophomore programs, but ABC's 1/2 hour comedy drought will continue to next season (Assuming they pick up Scrub and CBS is not foolish enough to let go of Christine.)
Sunday: 7:00 AFV 8:00 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition 9:00 Desperate Housewives 10:00 Brother and Sister/New show midseason (It should go to Monday @ 10pm, but with no new programs ready by upfront, B&S may make a mid-season move to Monday after ABC finally realize the Bachelor franchise is done.)
Monday 8:00 Dancing with the Star/Oprah's Big Give + Comedy* 9:30 Samantha Who? 10:00 Programs that should be canceled this season (The Bachelor or Eli Stone)/Mid-season: Brother and Sister
*The Bad Mother's Handbook seems to be a likely candidate.
Tuesday 8:00 Dancing Result (Potentially be 90 minutes)/Comedies/Dancing Result 9:00 Comedies**/Lost 10:00 Boston Legal(Final season, ABC wants to get rid of this show )/New show
*The two comedies that fit out of Dancing would be Cedric the Entertainer comedy and The Animated Goode Family (with blind 13 eps). If these survive, they may moved to 8pm on Tuesday to face Idol.
Wednesday 8:00 Pushing Daisies 9:00 Private Practice 10:00 Dirty Sexy Money/New Show mid-season (something soapy to counter program CBS and NBC)
*ABC could transform this night into sci-fi heavy entertainment but the situation seems not likely (even for Mid-season) given that these three shows work well together.
Thursday 8:00 Ugly Betty 9:00 Grey's Anatomy 10:00 New Drama
Friday 8:00 Reality Offering (ABC have yet to find a hit game show, so probably Super Nanny or Wife Swap) 9:00 WMC 10:00 20/20
ABC could put comedies at 8 but reality is much cheaper to produce.

The only changes I'd make: I feel Dancing results will remain at 9. Friday will probably look different (though it's anyone's guess as to how) and I don't think all three of BL, ES, and WMC will come back. 1 or 2 probably, with Tues 10pm, Mon 10pm, and Fri 9pm all as possibilities.

Thanks. The reason I think ES would be back is because the chimps. The chimps like to bring back "on the bubble" 10pm drama that launched during mid-season to Monday 10pm slot to die with humiliating numbers (Case in point: WAB, OR). Granted ES number is lower than OR's number last year, but retention out of Lost (Original) when compared to retention of OR out of GA was better. I personally like the concept of ES and would like to catch it sometime online or through rerun this summer.

Chances are that ABC will try something like that out, but it'll be a race between them an NBC who can get the lowest ratings at 10pm. The Bachelor needs to go to either Fridays or the land of cancellation.
