I believe sunday nights will stay the same, I doubt they would mess with what works well.

MONDAY (September – November)
8:00-9:30 PM “Dancing with the Stars”
9:30-10:00 PM “MISS/GUIDED” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Private Practice” (New night and time)

MONDAY (November – March)
8:00-9:30 PM “Dance War”
9:30-10:00 PM “Miss/Guided”
10:00-11:00 PM “The Bachelor”

MONDAY (March – May)
8:00-9:30 PM “Dancing wit the Stars”
9:30-10:00 PM “Miss/Guided”
10:00-11:00 PM “Private Practice”

Monday nights are pretty interesting. (Almost) nobody would watch Monday night until DWTS brought million of viewers. ABC just needs to find a formula that would work and keep viewers at 10 PM, that’s why I think PP would fit just well. For the comedy, I had to choose one and since I believe SW would pair perfectly with Literary Superstar I had to put them together, so I wondered and remembered that ABC hasn’t aired Miss/Guided yet this could be the perfect timeslot for that extremely interesting comedy. And of course, bring back DW and TB in January.

TUESDAY (September – November)
8:00-8:30 PM “Samantha Who?”
8:30-9:00 PM “LITERARY SUPERSTAR” (New series)
9:00-10:00 PM “Dancing wit the Stars”
10:00-11:00 PM “Pushing Daisies” (New night and time)

TUESDAY (November – March)
8:00-8:30 PM “Samantha Who”
8:30-9:00 PM “Literary Superstar”
9:00-10:00 PM “Boston Legal”
10:00-11:00 PM “Pushing Daisies”

TUESDAY (March – May)
8:00-8:30 PM “Samantha Who?”
8:30-9:00 PM “Literary Superstar”
9:00-10:00 PM “Dancing with the Stars
10:00-11:00 PM “Pushing Daisies”

The Tuesday night formula is basically the same that they used this year but with better shows. PD desperately need more exposure I believe DWTS has what it takes to help. And of course, ABC wants comedies these two are the real deal. What I would do to help launch them I would air a 90 minutes premiere of DWTS on Monday (the guys) air right after the season premiere of SW and on Tuesday another 90 minutes episode (the girls) and then again air right after the premiere of Literary superstar. Finally, the Tuesday after they get into their regular timeslot. BL has disappointed a lot this winter so I would give it a shorter season (13 – 16 episodes and it could also be the final season) and air it right when DWTS is gone until march.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM “BOUNDARIES” (New series)
9:00-10:00 PM “LIFE ON MARS” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Dirty Sexy Money”

I’m really not sure about Wednesday nights, but I tried something that could possibly make sense.

THURSDAY
8:00-9:00 PM “Ugly Betty”
9:00-10:00 PM “Grey’s Anatomy”
10:00-11:00 PM “LEAP” (New series)

I extremely would like to see Eli Stone back for a second season, but I doubt that will happen. So I figured Leap could be a good option after GA. Possibly bring back Lost during midseason for a 16 episodes order.

FRIDAY
8:00-8:30 PM “CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER” (New series)
8:30-9:00 PM “DAMON WAYNES” (New series)
9:00-10:00 PM “Women’s Murder Club”
10:00-11:00 PM “20/20”

I don’t know about WMC I would cancel it for sure, but since it’s sort of a hit on Friday nights I believe ABC will keep it for next season. And to that, bring comedies, it probably won’t give enormous audience, but it certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Midseason :
THE BACHELOR
DANCE WAR
THE BIG GIVE
SECTION 8
LOST
WANNA BET?
WIFE SWAP
SUPER NANNY

I don't believe it's the best schedule ever but it could actually makes sense, on my opinion.

I have a feeling Miss/Guided will be this year's Traveler (ABC will burn it off during the summer because for whatever reason they don't think it's worth airing). In terms of Eli Stone, I too hope the show can return. If given a second chance, maybe it should team up with Boston Legal.

MONDAY
8 - Dancing / Wife Swap
9 - Dancing / Pushing Daisies
9:30 - Samantha Who? / Pushing Daisies
10 - The Bachelor / Life on Mars

The midseason lineup could flop, as I don't have high hopes for Worse Version of Journeyman at 10, but I'm not quite sure what else to do. Fit in as much Daisies as possible during Heroes hiatus. Wife Swap should be stronger when it doesn't have to fight Idol. Though not compatible with Daisies, it could help a bit, and Daisies had no lead-in last year. (If WS continues to struggle when Idol moves to 9 in a couple weeks, possibly plug Dance War in here, but I'd be surprised if WS was weaker than DW.)

TUESDAY
8 - Untitled Cedric
8:30 - Untitled Wayans
9 - Dancing / Supernanny
10 - Dirty Sexy Money

I think DSM is a show that could benefit post-Dancing. I don't really think it's earned a fall return, but it makes sense. Could try Daisies there too, but I don't really see that as a 10pm show. Cedric stands a much better shot than Cavemen at anchoring Tuesday and should be relatively high-priority.

WEDNESDAY
8 - Private Practice
9 - Cupid / Lost
10 - Section 8

Go new again on Wednesday, but anchor the night with a strong returnee and try to launch Cupid with a compatible lead-in. I don't think the prospects are strong for Cupid, but this will give it a shot. Maybe it could also switch with Life on Mars on Monday. Section 8 is relatively on its own, but it's hard to do it any other way in the fall. And it should be a fall show. If it can survive the fall onslaught, ABC could be extremely strong on Wednesdays in the spring. In the event that Cupid succeeds and Section 8 fails, I might insert Lost at 10 or, if Cupid is a modest success, Lost to 8, PP to 9, and Cupid to 10.

THURSDAY
8 - Ugly Betty
9 - Grey's Anatomy
10 - Leap

I'm very open to moving one of the midseason Monday shows or even Cupid to Thurs 10pm if Leap fails, but I like the feel of this.

FRIDAY
8 - Women's Murder Club
9 - Boston Legal
10 - 20/20

The Close to Home/Numb3rs crowd is ripe for the plucking from 8-10, and these two shows are not demographically strong enough to be on other nights. Would prefer to keep the Club at the familiar 9pm, but I don't think BL will work at 8.

SUNDAY
7 - AFHV
8 - EM:HE
9 - DH
10 - B&S

Use two-hour EM and perhaps some other reality fill-in during January and March. I would not mess with Sunday on a large scale.

I'm afraid you're right but I hope that DSM, unlike OR, gets better in season two (it was in the right direction towards the end of season one).

Monday:
8pm DWTS/Dance War/DWTS
9:30pm Samantha Who (only out of DWTS)/ Bachelor at 9pm when DWTS is over
10pm Men in Trees (13eps) (if ABC renews it they need to give it a decent shot on a new night) OR B&S OR New Show/Bachelor (March)

Tuesday:
8pm DWTS Results/Lost (16-18eps) (Jan)
9pm Life on Mars/DWTS Results (March)
10pm Boston Legal (I think ABC will still stick with BL but they should use DWTS to launch a new show in Fall – also moving the results show keeps it out of Idol – of course if they want to protect Lost they can easily flip out Life on Mars and put Lost at 9pm in Jan – although this could invariably damage Mars if it has proven successful at 9pm)

Wednesday:
8pm Pushing Daisies (13eps) (there really is no reason to move this show and it will either succeed or fail in this slot)/ Wife Swap OR Supernanny mid season if PD fails
9pm Private Practice
10pm Cupid OR DSM (13eps) (see Thursday for comment about this)

Thursday:
8pm Ugly Betty
9pm Greys Anatomy
10pm Cupid OR DSM (depending on whether ABC wants to try a new show or an established one)

Friday:
8pm New Crime Show OR Just for Laughs + New Comedy/Reality half hour OR Wife Swap OR Supernanny
9pm WMC (I think ABC will renew it – just with new showrunners)
10pm 20/20

Sunday:
7pm AMFHV
8pm Extreme Makeover: HE
9pm Desperate Housewives
10pm B&S OR Leap/Big Give (I think ABC needs to be a bit more adventurous with this slot by either moving B&S to Monday nights or even Wed out of PP, or holding it till mid-season, and trying Leap or another similar show out of DH in Fall – they did the right thing with B&S and gave it two seasons to grove – and personally I love the show – but it is time to give the slot to another show)

Additionally:
SW only airs out of DWTS at 9:30pm – why waste originals when it can be artificially pumped up and hold more of DWTS then any other show before it! Bachelor is a good low cost option that will rate v. well out of Dance War in Nov and provide a reliable and well rating lead in to whatever airs at 10pm (this way the numbers at 10pm will not plummet when SW moves up to 9pm and a new comedy airs and quite possible fails at 9:30pm causing the 10pm numbers to drop massively). A new edition can also return in March at 10pm once Trees or B&S have finished their season.

Various:

Dirty Sexy Money: really looks like it could be next year's October Road, with the only potential saving grace that DSM seems to be getting better creatively whereas October Road started off strong but had nowhere to go in the second season.

Miss/Guided: I agree -- it's going to be this year's Traveler. If they couldn't find a place for it during the strike, of all things, they must be bent on burning it off in the Summer.

Eli Stone: I really like this show. Too bad many LOST fans are too territorial with their show that they are not giving this little shjow with a big heart a chance. And I wish ABC would try a different approach in advertising it -- do they have to focus on those musical numbers, which make it seems just plain cooky and weird? If they focused on how Eli helps people the "Touched by an Angel" crowd may actually find it and give it a chance... I hope it gets some exposure after DWTS: Results or after Oprah's Big Give once LOST going into its brief hiatus.

a_lex89, I really like your proposed lineup. With some very minor tweaks, I could see this lineup doing extremely well next year. I'm going to post my tweaks later today, but I think you're very close to a slam-dunk.

a_lex89, as I mentioned, I really like your proposed lineup. I made some tweaks which I believe make it even better.

SUNDAY
7:00-8:00 PM “America’s Funniest Videos”
8:00-9:00 PM “Extreme Makeover : Home Edition”
9:00-10:00 PM “Desperate Housewives”
10:00-11:00 PM “Brothers and Sisters”

I agree with staying with this lineup.

MONDAY (September – November, mid-March – May)
8:00-9:30 PM “Dancing with the Stars”
9:30-10:00 PM “Kohan/Mutchnick project” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Private Practice” (New night and time)

MONDAY (November – mid-March)
8:00-9:30 PM “Circus of the Stars” (New Series)
9:30-10:00 PM “Kohan/Mutchnick project”
10:00-11:00 PM “Private Practice”

I agree with you thank ABC needs a show that will keep the DWTS viewers at 10pm, and I also agree with you (and several others that have also suggested it) that Private Practice is the best show to do that and maximize that DWTS lead-in. It would be launched in the Fall the same way The Bachelor is today, basically with an oversized 90 minute episode, followed by regular 1-hr episodes for 2 more weeks directly following 2-hr DWTS episodes, before it has to have that 30 minute gap with a comedy in the middle. 3 weeks with 20+ million for a lead-in should be plenty of time to bump up PP from 11 million viewers to 15-16 million viewers. Also, the Kohan/Mutchnick project is what we've been calling here the next "Will&Grace", if Grace was a guy. Same creators, traditional multi-cam comedy should fit in well with both lead-in and lead-out. Finally, Circus of the Stars is basically Dancing with the Stars but the stars are performing circuit tricks instead, and ABC just picked up this show (pilot at least). It was a moderate success on CBS up to a decade or so ago, but with the right launch following the DWTS finale in November, this really could become another solid hit.

TUESDAY (September – November, mid-March - May)
8:00-9:00 PM “Dancing with the Stars: Results” (new time)
9:00-9:30 PM “Samantha Who?” (New day/time)
9:30-10:00 PM “LITERARY SUPERSTAR” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Dirty Sexy Money” (New night)

TUESDAY (January – mid-March)
8:00-9:00 PM Oprah's Big Give (New Day/time)
9:00-9:30 PM “Samantha Who?” (New day/time)
9:30-10:00 PM “LITERARY SUPERSTAR” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Dirty Sexy Money” (New night)

The Tuesday night formula is basically what's worked for them on Mondays (DWTS, Samantha Who) and using them (and moving some of them) to solidify Tuesdays year-round. Samantha Who basically has the same lead-in it would do on Mondays, but since it doesn't have to compete with top CBS comedy 2.5 Men, it might actually keep that audience year-round, even when DWTS is off the air. And I expect Oprah's Big Give to be a solid hit this Spring (over 15 million viewers), so maybe next year ABC should roll the dice and slot it opposite AI. Literary Superstar fits like a glove with SW, and DSM would have a good chance to find an audience at 10pm, when only L&O:SVU is a consistent performer on the other networks.

WEDNESDAY (September - December)
8:00-9:00 PM “Pushing Daisies”
9:00-10:00 PM “LIFE ON MARS” (New series)
10:00-11:00 PM “Section 8" (New Series)

WEDNESDAY (January - May)
8:00-9:00 PM ““LIFE ON MARS”
9:00-10:00 PM “LOST" (back to its original day/time)
10:00-11:00 PM “Section 8"

You weren't really sure about your Wednesday lineup , and I'm most confident about this -- this lineup would get me excited to watch year-round, as Life on Mars and Section 8 are my favorite new projects, and Pushing Daisies would fit better with those shows than it did with Private Practice this season. And come January, move LOST back to its original timeslot to anchor the night, opposite the AI results show. Out of all the shows ABC has even scheduled opposite AI, LOST has by far performed the best.

THURSDAY
8:00-9:00 PM “Ugly Betty”
9:00-10:00 PM “Grey’s Anatomy”
10:00-11:00 PM “LEAP” (New series)

I agree with you verbatim here. Goldie Hawn project Leap should be best Grey's companion since they've moved it away from DH.

FRIDAY
8:00-8:30 PM “CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER” (New series)
8:30-9:00 PM “DAMON WAYNANS” (New series)
9:00-10:00 PM “Women’s Murder Club”
10:00-11:00 PM “20/20”

WMC has performed best for ABC in this day/time than anything else the last few years -- now that we get reports that ABC is bringing it back in April, chances are better it will make it to the Fall. The Cedric/Wayans hour provides an hour of multi-cam comedy reminiscent of the TGIF block in the 90s.

SATURDAY
College Football, NASCAR, NBA

Make this an evening version of ABC's "Wide World of Sports", with seasonal sports year-round. The theatricals are not performing well enough.

Midseason Replacements:
THE BACHELOR / THE BACHELORETTE
DANCE WAR
DANCE MACHINE
WIFE SWAP
SUPERNANNY / SUPERMANNY
THE GOODE FAMILY
CUPID
LIMELIGHT
WIPEOUT
WANNA BET?

I have no doubt in my mind that ABC will be the network to beat again next fall, but like the past 3 seasons, the chimps will find a way to screw it up with pathetic midseason replacements and laying freshman potentials out to dry.

All they have to do is implement one of the lineups here and they should be in good shape... Wink

See I actually disagree. Several of these lineups imo would result in lower ratings especially those with two new Wednesday dramas in the fall.

I don't know mushu -- while generally it's not wise to have too many new shows on the same night, ABC has been able to launch multiple new shows successfully on several occasions -- in fact, some of their bigger successes of the past few years have been like that. In fact, last year they launched three new shows on Wednesday and they did just fine -- solid in fact, for a while. The only problem with the Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money combination was that none of them was really strong enough to anchor the night and keep viewers coming back, but they can each be solid shows with the right support. Also, LOST was launched on a Wednesday with no lead-in @ 8pm, and I think that it had a second new show on that night. And on Sundays, the year Desperate Housewives became a smash hit, it was a new show followed by another new show, Boston Legal, and then yet another new show, Grey's Anatomy.

So my bottom line is that the strategy can work, give the right shows, and I think that both Life on Mars and Section 8 can hold their own until January, and then become even stronger when LOST can join them for a very strong Wednesday lineup.

I'm surprised nobody's asked about Circus of the Stars yet, but here's the info on it thus far, from thefutoncritic:

quote:
ABC is in "serious negotiations" to land a potential revival of the 1980s series, which has also drawn interest from CBS and FOX. Michael Dempsey (MTV's "Video Music Awards") and original executive producer Bunny Stivers are behind the project, which is said to involve a new competitive aspect much like "Dancing With the Stars." Not surprisingly, exact format details have yet to be released as they are still being worked out.

My take: Unlike the Dance clones (Dance War and upcoming Dance Machine), I think this will actually be closer to the DWTS "spirit" of the star competition, especially with this new competitive element.

The original Circus of the Stars was pretty good in the 80s and early 90s. The involvement of and original executive producer Bunny Stivers should allow it to keep many of the successful elements, and the addition of Michael Dempsey (who produces MTV's "Video Music Awards") should make it younger and hipper than its predecessor. If done right, it does have the potential to be a big hit.
