Dumont Prime New Years ChoicesAgain, since Justin hasn't gotten the sheets for MyNetworkTV, I'll take the liberty to share with you just what's playing over the next few days on the nascent network:
Mid-Season is My Season on MyNetworkTV
Monday: 8-10 pm
"Celebrity Expose" (R, 2 hours) -> A double-up encore looks at Miss Jennifer Lopez and a bunch of rap superstars.
Tuesday: 8-10 pm
"World Magic Awards" (R) -> I urge you all to check out this encore special which features awards given to the most inspired magicians and illusionists from around the world...the finale set-piece with Miss Pamela Anderson is something that needs to be seen to be believed.
Wednesday:
8-9 pm
"Whacked Out Videos" -> MyNetworkTV kicks off its mid-season slate with a double up of half-hour episodes of this new video compilation series, which is a spinoff of the "Whacked Out Sports" series seen on SPIKE or syndicated to stations across the country.
9-10 pm
"Celebrity Daredevils" -> An encore from last season, and hosted by Mr. Lorenzo Lamas.
MY NEW YEARS PRIME: LIVE:Monday:
8-9:30 pm ->
""Saturday Night Live" Pop Culture Nation special" (NBC) -> One of the best documentaries of the comedy highlights from this NBC institution.
Tuesday:
Nothing LIVE tonight, but starting to watch my DVR and VCR copies of some of the marathon programming
Wednesday:
8-9 pm ->
"Whacked Out Videos" (MNT) -> Sure, I'll give this show a whirl, but only because it's MyNetworkTV.
9-10 pm ->
"Gossip Girl" (CW) -> Only two more episodes left in this excellent melodrama. I do hope The CW schedules the encores for Tuesday night leading into One Tree Hill so I can see it again from the beginning.
LATER: Monday: 2-8 pm –>
Planet of the Apes Marathon (AMC) - I'm going to dvr these and watch them all in a row...loved the movie series, loved the tv series too (I have the dvd set of it), but didn't care for the re-make by Mr. Burton.
Monday 8-12 pm ->
The Three Stooges Marathon (WSBK) - Comic geniuses...thank you WSBK for ringing out the New Year with Larry, Curly and Moe.
Tuesday: 12 am - 8 pm ->
The Honeymooners Marathon (WPIX) - One of my all-time favourite comedy series, with many rare episodes outside of 'the classic 39' that are being shown as part of this marathon.
Tuesday: 7 am - 8 pm ->
TCM's That's Entertainment Marathon:* Variety Time (1948): Mr. Jack Parr introduces clips from the early MGM musical legacy. An early pre-cursor to the That's Entertainment series.
* That's Dancing! (1985): Messrs. Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr., Mikhail Baryshnikov, Ray Bolger and Liza Minnelli narrate clips, from Busby Berkeley musicals to Michael Jackson.
* That's Entertainment (1974): Clips from 1928-58 MGM musicals, and the documentary that was a huge surprise box office hit in 1974.
* That's Entertainment 2 (1976): Messrs Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly host this sequel looking at the MGM legacy of wonderful musicals.
* That's Entertainment 3 (1994): The final documentary didn't do so well, but it's still a treat to see all the rare clips from the era of MGM musicals. Luckily, everyday is That's Entertainment with TCM, which started up as a cable network just after this third feature was released.
DVR ALERT:Those of you who live in New York (WPIX) or Boston (WSBK) can advantage yourself of the marvelous Three Stooges and Honeymooners marathons that these stations have on offer for New Years Eve. Many of the Honeymooners episodes are outside the "classic 39", either pre-39 DuMont rarities or post-39 CBS classics.
The WSBK Three Stooges Marathon begins at 8 pm and ends at the stroke of midnight, whereas the WPIX Honeymooners starts after the New Years toasts have been made and continues from 12 am until 8 pm on Tuesday, with interruptions for news, of course.
