Dumont Prime New Years Choices

Again, since Justin hasn't gotten the sheets for MyNetworkTV, I'll take the liberty to share with you just what's playing over the next few days on the nascent network:

Mid-Season is My Season on MyNetworkTV

Monday: 8-10 pm "Celebrity Expose" (R, 2 hours) -> A double-up encore looks at Miss Jennifer Lopez and a bunch of rap superstars.

Tuesday: 8-10 pm "World Magic Awards" (R) -> I urge you all to check out this encore special which features awards given to the most inspired magicians and illusionists from around the world...the finale set-piece with Miss Pamela Anderson is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

Wednesday:
8-9 pm "Whacked Out Videos" -> MyNetworkTV kicks off its mid-season slate with a double up of half-hour episodes of this new video compilation series, which is a spinoff of the "Whacked Out Sports" series seen on SPIKE or syndicated to stations across the country.
9-10 pm "Celebrity Daredevils" -> An encore from last season, and hosted by Mr. Lorenzo Lamas.

MY NEW YEARS PRIME:

LIVE:

Monday:
8-9:30 pm -> ""Saturday Night Live" Pop Culture Nation special" (NBC) -> One of the best documentaries of the comedy highlights from this NBC institution.

Tuesday:
Nothing LIVE tonight, but starting to watch my DVR and VCR copies of some of the marathon programming

Wednesday:
8-9 pm -> "Whacked Out Videos" (MNT) -> Sure, I'll give this show a whirl, but only because it's MyNetworkTV.
9-10 pm -> "Gossip Girl" (CW) -> Only two more episodes left in this excellent melodrama. I do hope The CW schedules the encores for Tuesday night leading into One Tree Hill so I can see it again from the beginning.

LATER:

Monday: 2-8 pm –> Planet of the Apes Marathon (AMC) - I'm going to dvr these and watch them all in a row...loved the movie series, loved the tv series too (I have the dvd set of it), but didn't care for the re-make by Mr. Burton.

Monday 8-12 pm -> The Three Stooges Marathon (WSBK) - Comic geniuses...thank you WSBK for ringing out the New Year with Larry, Curly and Moe.

Tuesday: 12 am - 8 pm -> The Honeymooners Marathon (WPIX) - One of my all-time favourite comedy series, with many rare episodes outside of 'the classic 39' that are being shown as part of this marathon.

Tuesday: 7 am - 8 pm -> TCM's That's Entertainment Marathon:
* Variety Time (1948): Mr. Jack Parr introduces clips from the early MGM musical legacy. An early pre-cursor to the That's Entertainment series.
* That's Dancing! (1985): Messrs. Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr., Mikhail Baryshnikov, Ray Bolger and Liza Minnelli narrate clips, from Busby Berkeley musicals to Michael Jackson.
* That's Entertainment (1974): Clips from 1928-58 MGM musicals, and the documentary that was a huge surprise box office hit in 1974.
* That's Entertainment 2 (1976): Messrs Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly host this sequel looking at the MGM legacy of wonderful musicals.
* That's Entertainment 3 (1994): The final documentary didn't do so well, but it's still a treat to see all the rare clips from the era of MGM musicals. Luckily, everyday is That's Entertainment with TCM, which started up as a cable network just after this third feature was released.

DVR ALERT:

Those of you who live in New York (WPIX) or Boston (WSBK) can advantage yourself of the marvelous Three Stooges and Honeymooners marathons that these stations have on offer for New Years Eve. Many of the Honeymooners episodes are outside the "classic 39", either pre-39 DuMont rarities or post-39 CBS classics.

The WSBK Three Stooges Marathon begins at 8 pm and ends at the stroke of midnight, whereas the WPIX Honeymooners starts after the New Years toasts have been made and continues from 12 am until 8 pm on Tuesday, with interruptions for news, of course.

I'll include this, might be interesting for some:

The Scoop:
Monday 12.31.07:

New Year, No Limits (ESPN at 11:00pm & 2:00am)
ESPN jumps into 2008 by presenting two daredevil stunts. At midnight Eastern time, motorcyclist Robbie Maddison attempts to soar over the length of a football field on his bike, while stunt driver Rhys Millen tries to pull off a 360-degree backflip in a truck at the stroke of midnight on the West Coast.

New Year's Eve Live (FOX at 11:00pm [all locations])
Fox's Saturday-night funny man Spike Feresten handles streetside interviews, while host Cat Deeley prowls above Times Square. Rock outfit Lifehouse, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and her runner-up, Blake Lewis, are among the performers.

New Year's Eve With Anderson Cooper (CNN at 11:00pm)
Anderson rings in 2008 in Times Square, while a host of correspondents, including Kiran Chetry and Erica Hill, check in on celebrations in Key West, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and overseas.

Tila Tequila's New Year's Eve Masquerade 2008 (MTV at 11:00pm)
The MySpace minx turned reality-TV star return to MTV to host this New Year's Eve costume party, with help from fellow online personality Perez Hilton. Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock, Good Charotte and Paramore provide music.

New Year's Eve With Carson Daly (NBC at 11:35pm [everywhere except central])
Alicia Keys takes to the rooftop of Rockefeller Center for a performance during Carson's fourth annual special, while rocker Lenny Kravitz burns it up in Times Square. Tiki Barber and Amy Roback handle reporting duties.

Tuesday 01.01.08:

The Scoop:

"Bowl-a-Rama"
-Outback Bowl (ESPN at 11:00am)
-Cotton Bowl (FOX at 11:30am)
-Capital One Bowl (ABC at 1:00pm)
-Gator Bowl (CBS at 1:00pm)

Tournament of Roses Parade (ABC/NBC/HGTV/TRAVEL/HD THEATER at 11:00am)
Pasadena's 119th annual parade gets kicked up a notch when chef Emeril Lagasse helps ring in 2008 as a grand marshal of the flowery cavalcade. He's joined along the 5.5-mile jaunt by this year's Rose Queen, Arcadia High School senior Dusty Gibbs, and her six member court. And keeping with the year's "Passport to the World's Celebrations" theme are the traditional marching bands, equestrian units and fabulous floats made from petals, seeds and roots.

Not much on tuesday either.

Mainly catchup on the DVRed stuff. May checkout ABC comedy programs, if I am in the mood.

Not much of a College football fan, but Bowl season always brings in the casual viewer, so I may flip around the games throughout the day.

TUESDAY
Live:
Rose Bowl (ABC)
8:30 - Sugar Bowl (Fox)

DVR:
10 - Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

WEDNESDAY

8 - Power of 10 (CBS)
9 - Gossip Girl (CW)
10 -
start watching Law & Order (NBC) on the DVR - As I've been saying for months, if you've ever been a fan of this show, it may be worth one more look this season, with (IMO) its best cast in a decade and a long-time great writer for the franchise, Rene Balcer, back on board as showrunner

Will check in on the Fiesta Bowl (Fox) during commercials.
