Dumont Weekend of Prime Choices
It is Academy Award weekend, a highpoint this month for those who celebrate the 31 Days of Oscar on TCM.
MY SATURDAY PRIME:
LIVE:
8:00 pm Poltergeist (TCM) -> One of the most chilling movies made, and a real treat to watch on TCM commercial-free as part of their 31 Days of Oscar celebrations.
10:00 pm Independent Spirit Awards (AMC) -> I enjoy these annual awards almost as much as the Oscars. From the informality of the event-in-the-tent to the loopy, entertaining host/hostesses over the years, this awards program gets it right every year with a top-notch list of nominations and an award that is absolutely loaded with merit.
LATER:
9:00 pm Knight Rider (NBC) -> Last weekend my DVR was completely filled, and it rebelled on me until I was able to delete and download saved programming. Knight Rider fell victim to the purge, but only because I knew that NBC was encoring it tonight. I look forward to recording and watching this very early fall preview!
11:30 pm Saturday Night Live (NBC) -> Tonights first post-writers strike episode is hosted by Miss Tina Fey, and based on the previews that have been running all week on NBC, I am expecting this episode to return to its exemplary form as when Miss Fey was one of the chief writers. I will watch this on Sunday morning over breakfast.
MY SUNDAY PRIME:
LIVE:
7:00 pm Barbara Walters Special (ABC) -> Miss Barbara Walters has been part of my Oscar viewing tradition ever since she started doing them eons ago.
7:00 pm The 80th Annual Academy Awards (ABC) -> My ballot at Variety had the following top of ballot choices: Best Picture - Atonement Best Actor - Mr. Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) Best Actress - Miss Julie Christie (Away From Her) Best Supporting Actor - Mr. Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild) Best Supporting Actress - Miss Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) Best Director - Messrs. Ethan & Joel Coen (No Country for Old Men) Best Original Screenplay - Mr. Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) Best Adapted Screenplay - Miss Sarah Polley (Away From Her)
LATER:
7:00 pm CW Now (CW) -> Merci beaucoup to the lovely and talented team that told us each week about trends with benefits and all those cool gizmos too! An innovative experiment it was. Perhaps another network might give this type of series a summertime slot.
9:00 pm Masterpiece: Pride and Prejudice (PBS) -> The miniseries continues tonight with its third episode...I believe next Sunday is the finale.
11:00 pm Breaking Bad (AMC) -> Once again, very thankful that AMC skeds an immediate encore following the 10 pm debut. An excellent series.

Are you watching Big Brother over the absolute paramount, pinnacle, red-carpet glamour event of the year? Say it isn't so, X, say it isn't so!

I will be dumont. I don't like those award shows very much and at least I might get a few kicks out of Big Brother.

The good news is that one of these teams will lose.
The better news is that the true best team may find itself only one spot from the top! Speaking of the true best team, I will also be watching 6:30 - UNC/Wake Forest (FSN) tomorrow night.
