CSI itself was a major innovation at the time, and while the entertainment value has shifted a good bit from science to cast, it was the science that was the initial hook on CSI.
A lot of people are making snap judgments on this show, but the description seems very vague to me. I can't glean what a typical episode is going to look like at all.
There are some hints that it's genre, specifically phrases like "scientific oddities" and "nefarious motives," but it would not shock me to see this show end up being a lot less unconventional than is being assumed right now.
Solid schedule. I think Rules should be on the schedule instead of a new comedy, and am wondering a little about Worst Week fitting since it's single camera, will wait till I see it till I pass judgement though. Overall good schedule though.

Yes. I made a point in the results thread that throwing this into the "sci fi" box seems premature and typical of a desire to pidgeonhole these shows into a genre.

I can already see Wednesdays failing, big time. 7 million, or less. CBS should have done a 4 hour block there in the first place, I agree with the poster a few posts above. Back to You would have fit very nicely.

I bet Worst Week is going to be one of those the media loves, but the viewers do not. I already heard it got a rousing reception when they played the clips at the upfront. The media is in love with these single camera sitcoms (see 30 Rock), but CBS viewers like the traditional sitcoms.
Really wished CBS had taken the guts to move Ghost Whisperer out of the Friday spot, it still has so much potential to have growth in viewers.
Also, pretty sad not to see Meant to Be's on the list, I thought it would have been a very compatible fit after or even before GW. Otherwise, would check out Mentalist, 11th Hr, and Ex Lists.

Hold on there. If a show is funny, it will get the audience.
Heck, HIMYM is almost a single camera sitcom with the way its is filmed.

I've noticed, plus you can barely hear the laughs on HIMYM and there's never any "ohhing" or "ahhing". It's almost like the laugh track is fake and inserted later.

Actually, they film the show with out an audience, but after the show is done, and audience comes in and watches it on tv monitors. The then record the reactions/laughter from that screening
We shall see. I still don't think single camera works on CBS. This network has had the most success of any network with sitcoms for a reason. The CBS shows have a different feel to them. If they suddenly stick an NBC type sitcom at the end of the line I bet the CBS audience does not buy it.
My question is if HIMYM is filmed like a single camera, and they add the laughter after then why does CBS do this ? Why don't they just leave it as single camera ? The answer is because it would not fit with the other CBS sitcoms, and it would not be like the other CBS sitcoms. That is what I mean. CBS sitcoms have a traditional feel to them that the CBS audience likes. I bet some of them don't like the multicamera, and Worst Week will lose some of the Men audience which will leave it below acceptable retention levels for that coveted spot.

It's not supposed to make sense. It's called a "plug." After they've put everything else where they want it or where it best fits, they take their lowest priority show and put it into what in the fall is their worst hour. Not worst hour in terms of other nets' being stronger necessarily, but an hour where because of the football overruns it is toughest to maximize ratings. This is now the true "death slot."
When they shifted from the movies a few years ago, they put WAT in there and it did ok but not as well as expected and I believe they figured out that the period was going to be a dump from then on. I tried to tell SHARK fans last year that the move there was not a good sign, because it was not compatible with CC and was a sign the net had deprioritized the show.
The good news for THE UNIT is that it may have a life again on Tuesday if THE MENTALIST falls through. Otherwise, unless THE UNIT exceeds expectations, I think it may bow to a midseason replacement when conditions get better in the spring.
I'm not the biggest believer in the "football overrun" excuse. But it is real to a degree, and they don't want to waste a high priority show in this period.

I completely agree. From all I read about CBS holding pilots in contention and mid-season development, as I said before the Unit is holding the spot for The Tower to come in mid-season to relieve the Unit Sundays at 10. The Unit will either be held off mid-season or fill in for The Mentalist or Ex Life (which ever one does worse). I'd say Worst Week has it pretty tough also and Rules of Engagement is ready to take its old spot back.
