CBS is planning a big send-off for The Price Is Right host Bob Barker, who is retiring in June. The network said that it plans a special primetime edition of the game show on May 16, hosted by Barker, in which contestants will have a shot at $1 million. On the following night, the network plans to air Bob Barker: A Celebration of 50 Years on Television that will include clips of Barker from his -- and television's -- early days to the present. The network also said that it will collect video tributes from individual Barker fans, which can be submitted via YouTube.

It looks as if George Hamilton may not be the only person getting good buzz for the Price is Right job:

I know Mark Steiness would give Hamilton a run for his money in the tanning booth and dentist's office. Big Grin

I personally will root for Mario... He was so likable on DWTS. But it's hard to pick anyone without actually seeing them in action. It's hard to speculate how well they would interact with the hyperactive contestants, which is why I should reserve judgment and figure that CBS will not kill a good thing by picking someone that will turn off the seniors in droves.

Uhh, Mario was a big star on DWTS, which is one of the oldest skewing shows on TV. Mario also was on a CBS sudser, Bold & Beautiful, for a couple of years, so he is very familiar to their core audience. I don't think that the seniors would be turned off by him at all, and CBS would definitely get a youthful draw opposite ABC's Rosie-fueled The View.

Bob's retirement can be the downfall of CBS daytime.

I think "can" is an understatement. I don't think TPIR can last w/o Bob.

So who is this Todd Newton and does he have a tan and teeth whitening session each week like the other two? Because if he doesn't, I think he should get it so the whitening doesn't shine so bright on the screen.
