Rumors are flying around that CBS will give LOS DUQUES (aka the Untitled Cynthia Cidre Project, the one with Jimmy Smits) and VIVA LAUGHLIN early pick-ups. Not confirmed yet.

i'd just like to ask. why do networks still give shows early pick-ups. espcially a new series since they dont go into production until mid summer?

for eg, last yr, kidnapped and black donnellys both had early pick ups. but the latter didnt really bow until midseason. there is such a big gap between the nnouncement and the premiere.

(not to mention both cancelled.)

just wld like to know what the benefit of an early pick up is.

One advantage I can think of is getting a head start on signing up certain writers and directors before there are more choices available to them.

Los Duques sounds very interesting. Pair this up with Atlanta for a 2nd half Hispanic night (9:30 - 11pm) might be a good idea.

I don't get the appeal of the "Musicals".
Cop Rock was awful. Most TV series that have a Musical Episode are treated as "Jump The Shark" moments.

If it Does air, it wont last past 3 episodes.

I love the idea of a musical, but to make it a good one is another story.

Cop Rock was indeed awful and even with movies, for every Grease, there's a lot of Grease 2's.... BUT that being said, I would love it if they could figure a way to make it work. It just seems like such a long shot based on the description. (I really hope I'm pleasantly surprised!)

I don't mind a special episode as a musical, like Scubs did for example, but every week...

I agree that on CBS, this will last no more than 3 episodes...if not only 2...

It's difficult for me to predict something like that based on a description. If the buzz is good on this from the press, I think a lot of people will initially sample it.... And if Marc likes it, the show will grow even more -Smiler I'd still reserve judgment until I see the show (or at least heard from some people who have).

CBS has made it an annual tradition to place a show in the Tue 10 pm slot and cancel it after 3 episodes (heck, they even did it twice this season with Smith and 3 lbs.). If this gets on the air, it will flop miserably.

There was plenty of negativity around The Real Wedding Crashers...and we were right on that one. 5th Grader is undoubtedly the surprise hit of the season.

I recall most of it being after the showed aired and then I chimed in too... but perhaps I missed all the prebashing fun.

There was some pre-bashing---albeit not as bad as 5th Grader or Armed & Famous.
