Wow. I'm really surprised to see CBS actually testing the waters and trying to find the best overall lineup. Now, we will just have to see if they give it any significant time to settle or if they mess with it after only a week or two.
Why are you really surprised? Didn't CBS flip HIMYM and The Class last year when the 8:30 show (HIMYM) was performing better?
It will be interesting to see if HIMYM starts building at 8:30 now, which The Class did not start doing when it moved to 8:30. I'm a fan of both HIMYM and BBT and would like to see HIMYM perk up, since its renewal prospects are questionable while BBT already has the renewal.

Yes, and the result was that The Class turned from 'promissing new show' to cancellation. CBS also moved Christine away from that 9:30pm timeslot and severely damaged its ratings. This season, I expected them to protect Rules of Engagement by keeping it in only the cushy timeslot and BBT by keeping it only in the timeslot where it was working. CBS has not had a lot of success when they start fiddling with the comedy timeslots. Only HIMYM has survived that sort of fiddling.

One thing that might help is that CW moved their comedy lineup off of Monday. I know they pull small numbers, but the numbers difference between Everybody Hates Chris and Aliens in America was often as big as the gain BBT was getting out of HIMYM. Of more interest is simply where these two shows will be in the ratings after the writer's strike 'timeout'. Reruns have indicated growth potential for both of them, but maybe that was simply because of the lack of programming on other channels? It remains to be seen if those repeat viewers were NEW viewers, or just people content with watching the same episodes over and over. I'm hoping that the sitcoms might finally start making a comeback with some real viewer growth.

Given how close the two shows have been in the ratings (new and repeat), that is the biggest reason that I am surprised that CBS is making the timeslot change. they have already committed to renewing BBT (rightfully so), but if HIMYM does grow, they end up looking a bit silly for not having already renewed it as well. Personally, I still think Christine is the likely 'odd man out' for renewal.
I think this is a great decision by CBS, BBT is doing great both in creativity and ratings. But, I really think HIMYM should start worrying a little. CBS has 2 slots remaining for 4 shows. It's safe to say that Welcome to the Captain is going. 9:30 will go to either Rules or Christine, I hope it goes to Christine, I can't stand the show but it's alot better than Rules. Also, CBS has a tradition of introducing atleast 1 new comedy in the fall. So, i'm guessing CBS will have to break tradition (which is doubtful) for HIMYM to get renewed.
HIMYM has been a little off this season but it's still okay, i'd hate to see it cancelled. I have a feeling if it does get cancelled, it will be this seasons big show campaign.

HIMYM may take a big hit with the move.
DwtS is 90 minutes, isn't it? So, the 'important part' takes place while 2&1/2Men is airing. It is easy to see from 2&1/2Men's ratings that CBS isn't losing viewers to the finish of DwtS.

I agree that Christine is the least likely renewal of the five, and will probably need to perk up quite a bit when it's airing after original 2.5 Men in March and early April and then hope that Rules underperforms. I would be surprised to see CBS let a show like HIMYM go when it can pretty reliably start off the night in the low-3's. I think it definitely deserves the nod over shows like The Unit and Shark, but then again those shows probably aren't in direct competition.
CBS will likely bring back at least 4 of the current comedies. 3 will start the season and the 4th will be a mid season replacement (like Christine was this season). Of course, this assumes that CBS can come up with one new comedy given the shortened development season. If they can't do that, then all 4 comedies will be back with Christine back additionally as a mid-season replacement.
And, of course, there is still a chance that CBS will expand comedies onto another night, which would mean that all 5 of these will be back along with probably 2 new comedy offerings. That way, CBS still has one show to hold in reserve as a mid-season replacement.

Christine is surely to be back, it is paving its way back to the 10mils. You have to remember that it has been gone from TV for nearly or more than 6months, of course the ratings wouldn't be as high as Rules, which has been in the time slot since it left last season in May. I love HIMYM, loved it since Season 1, but if anyone of the 4 is going to be the Mid-Season Replacement it would be HIMYM or at lease a 13/13 ep pick up for both series (one to be back in the fall, the other in the Late Winter/early Spring.

I agree, HIMYM is the most likely show to be held as 'mid season replacement. In that scenario, the Fall lineup will look like: BBT, new show, 2&1/2Men, RoE. Mid season: HIMYM. Cancelled: TNAoOC, WttC.
I could see HIMYM and Rules... moving to the 3rd hour slots. Both are "Relationship" baised comedies, so pairing them together would not be a bad idea.
Could allow Old Christine to survive in some form and have CBS launch one, perhaps even two new sitcoms for mondays.
That being said. HIMYM and Rules.... on the Sunday 8pm hour would be a nice change of pace for the night.

The problem is that comedies clearly don't fit the 60 Minutes, Cold Case demos. CBS imo will have to completely revamp to do that and I don't see them doing it. Otherwise they end up with another year of an odd ball series at 8pm. My personal thought is that Cold Case could return to 8pm, WAT to Sundays at 9, and leave Shark at 10. This of course could only happen if something strong enough could follow CSI. I also see CSI:NY potentially getting moved somewhere. Perhaps a Cold Case, WAT, CSI:NY Sunday with Shark going to Tuesdays and new dramas Wednesday and Thursday at 10. 2 comedies could then lead off Wednesdays and Fridays would likely remain put. For some reason, I keep thinking one drama is getting the ax. Shark has to be the clear cut favorite here with the Unit second, and Moonlight third. Personally, I'd do it in the opposite order or not cancel anything but this is CBS. Another option is a new drama Tuesday at 10, Shark returns to Thursdays or Fridays with a new drama filling the other hole.

This sounds like a good idea. Well any schedule that has HIMYM on it makes me happy.
As for the new show to follow CSI, I'd suggest LL Cool J's The Man. To me it seems like it's skew young and be able to hold a reasonable amount of the CSI lead in. Plus, with NBC renewing ER (and likely not moving it) competition shouldn't been that stiff.
