I'd agree with that. The main problem though is that they have just two real demo hits in their arsenal and there are a lot of shows pulling mid-2s in the demo. Still, they're having a pretty stable fall and their Tuesday and Wednesday night lineups are going to stay pretty strong against Idol this midseason. NOw if they could only get Sundays figured out and find a permanent 9pm Friday filler, they would be okay.

CBS is almost entirely in firstrun programming in December.

They did mostly the same thing last year, despite the writers strike.

I wonder if there is more ad money to get NOW, during the holiday shopping season than later in the winter and early spring? If so, then why don't the other nets program as heavy in originals as CBS?

Is that a typo? It doesnt seem like Gary Unmarried would go that low unless it was a repeat.

I think next year, you are going to see more originals in December. Re-runs and holiday specials for the most part didn't work.

I wonder if CBS was more willing to go into originals because so much of their audience falls out of the 18 to 49 demo and that audience is more likely to stay home and watch TV instead of the other holiday options.

And it benefits the episodic nature of the CBS shows to spread out the originals more, because the repeat numbers tend to be higher when mixed in with originals, and they don't have to worry much about creating confusion/uproar because of people losing track of serialized storylines.

CBS is quite holiday proof because its audience and share of the 18-49 audience is the one more likely to be at home. ABC's more 18-34 centric lineup sees decreases this time of the year. For them its a good idea to air repeats right now. If I was ABC, I would air mostly repeats of the heavy hitter til February and then go with non-stop new eps. Nights like Mondays and Tuesdays (plus Lost's premiere on Wed.) should take up the bulk of the promotion in Jan. Fridays and Saturdays of course would repeat like normal and the new Thursday night and the Sunday lineup could then return and air repeat free through May. Better yet, air something like Newleyweds on Sundays in Dec./Jan. in place of Housewives and Brothers and Sisters repeats and perhaps go with some holiday movies on Thursday nights in place of those repeats.
