Aside from fixing the butchering her name (eep!) I left it alone. My other option was to change it to, or else I'll be without Nikki Cox's considerable charms for the next year or so Frowner .

And then it just sounds like I'm only interested in her.... Um, well, then it's just too honest! ;-)

Yes CBS is declining and skews older but only really has a few weak spots in their lineup.

1) All nets are declining.

2) Why do people still say CBS Skews old, despite that it is, and will be, #2 in the demo for the season? NBC skews Old. ABC Skews Old, outside their top 5 shows, which carry the net, IMO.

I think it's just the reputation CBS has had and people like to repeat what other people say.

I agree. They follow perception, not reality or the facts.

Speaking as an Angel fan (not so much Buffy in the later seasons even though I still watched) I see this as a plus if they can pull something off as interesting, engaging and funny as Angel was at times. I definitely will give it a shot.

No, but I was a huge Buffy/Angel fan (still am to a point....I think the Buffy "Season 8" comics are great so far)....and just reading the plotline for that series, it just looks like an Angel dirivative.

Well that seems to be the only logical reason for cancelling a show like close to home, which had the best ratings of the night but their lowest 18-49 demo. And yes CBS does well in 18-49 but they also have the greatest percentage of viewers outside that demo. So in that case they do skew older. Unlike many people though I don't think that's a problem. I'm much more interested in overall viewership than the age of the people who are actually tuning in.

The reason for the cancellation was more because they had very few underperforming shows as compared to the other networks, not because of the age skewing. I agree that the total viewers is more interesting and I think in the future, as the way networks figure other ways to charge and make money due to our techie advances, this will be a more of a priority.

I think you'll see a resurgence by "SVU" in the fall; Jimmy Smits doesn't have a good ratings track record on the nets, at least not since "L.A. Law". CBS is giving the 10pm Tue. time period the same lead-ins it had last season, which favor male viewers, and are starting what I am guessing would be a family-centered serial drama, which would skew female.

"Brothers and Sisters" was a freshman of this sort last season, but had a much better lead-in with "Desperate Housewives", the quintessential female-appeal drama. Given that advantage, plus airing on the highly-viewed Sunday night, "B&S" has managed a HH in the higher 7's-low 8's, and an 18-49 in the low 4's (nice, but not great). While "Cane's" Hispanic slant may bring in more Hispanic viewers, that same fact may also make it a harder sale in middle America, especially given today's current political climate.

Jimmy Smits not good on the nets????
Didn't he pump up NYPD Blue when he joined the show? Wasn't his death one of the highest rated for the series?

Didn't he do well with The West Wing, despite it was a Sinking Ship?

As for "Middle America", the fact that it HAS Jimmy Smits and Hector Alonzo, will bridge that gap. And I am not sure what "Political Climate" would sway viewers, either way, on this show.

His track record is pretty good. Better than most.. Better than a lot.

In promotion I have seen so far for this show, a lot of weight is being put on his "presense". He had a little more recognition value in "NYPD", for that occurred not too long after "Law" left the air. But that wasn't "his" vehicle, and if I recall he only stayed with the show for a short time. I believe he is a terrific actor, no slurring of his abilities is intended. But I don't think his name alone is what is needed to bring people in to this show.

As far as the "political climate" (another way to say P.C.) goes, in a wonderful world those actors would be able to "bridge" any gap; race, plus the fact that this is a drama focusing on power-hungry business-types, has a potential to dissuade certain viewers from watching. I'm certainly not saying that's right, but it's a potential reality...

Well, many people (like Marc for example) said that Jericho wouldn't last 3 weeks.

Re: Close To Home: I'm sure NBC or ABC would love to have a show that draws 10 million viewers a week regardless of 18-49...

I still stand by a statement I made earlier in the year that Jericho and The Class were good shows on the wrong network. They were on CBS, who's audience is more uneducated and rural.

Those shows are way too sophisticated for the IQ of a CBS viewer.

Well, if people aren't smart enough to turn on CBS to watch these "intelligent" shows, then I really question this line of thought.

To me, someone who is educated and urban would be smart enough to watch shows based on the content, not the network. If you actually would discount a show because of the network it was on, I would tend to label you as uneducated and rural. Therefore, people who are uneducated and rural are watching anything but CBS.
