Does CBS really care about Jericho survives or not ? I'd say no based on its timeslot and Nina's comments about they did their part now people must watch for its survival .. Tuesday night at 10:00 pm has been a death slot so I would think is Jericho wanted it to succeed it would be shown in a better night and time to catch on. What would Jericho need in ratings/demos to survive ? At this point I'd say an approx, 10+ million viewers consistently and respectable demos - neither which Jericho had before. Will Jericho survive the odds ? Nope
Up against repeats of Law & Order SVU and Boston Legal, I would think if Jericho can manage to win the time period, it might survive into a third season.
Pam, I think you are wrong about Jericho's pending cancellation. If this were a regular TV season, then I'd say Jericho was done for, but it's got just about everything working in favor for it to do well and be renewed:
[1] It's no airing against shows on the CW or FOX [2] ABC and NBC's establish shows will be in repeats [3] It has a lead in this time around, Big Brother [4] With the writers on strike, no new pilots are being written, so less competition for slot on next fall's schedule [5] With less new shows/episodes on, TV guide and the rest of the media will talk about Jericho (i.e. look how much attention Lost is getting)
As long as Jericho can manage decent ratings, I predict a pick-up. And no I'm not a fan of the show.

Valid points and I'll agree. I'm still pissed about Johnston Greene being killed since I always felt Gerald McRaney carried the series along . But my gut feelings are still cancellation especially once the strike ends and Jericho has the competition it does not have now !!

It will be interesting to see how the loss of McRaney will affect the show but I've already sensed a different tone in the show this year based on the ads and let's face it: Jake was the star by the end of the season for sure if not before then. He'll probably do just fine for the show. The key is getting people to remember that it's coming back and getting a decent lead in from Big Brother, which I suspect it will have as CBS has been endlessly showing the Chenbot during ads lately. As for the number of viewers it needs to survive, it probably depends on lead in, but I'd say 7.5 to 8 million for sure. Remember, this is strike season and there will be very few pilots if any for CBS to use for new shows next fall. If only one or two new dramas gets picked up, then I see Jericho possibly returning again at midseason.
CBC renewed "Jericho" only reluctantly. I doubt it'll survive the season unless its #s dramatically go up. Now, while the end of the writers' strike won't produce any new eps of any scripted show the next day, I suspect more than one writer is working at home & will have new scripts ready on the day the strike ends.
Right now, it doesn't appear J has enough support to survive once things return to normal in TV land. But things could change; after all, we viewers are quite fickle!

See that's where I disagree.. I never cared for Jake's character due to Skeet's mediocre acting especially moreso after his past was revealed and he has military training . Brad Beyer who plays Stanley IMO should have been cast as Jake since he has the looks, physique, and yes more importantly the talent to have pulled it off ! Many people really like Skeet as Jake but him and Ashley Scott as Emily are the two weakest performers on the series . Gerald McRaney had the talent and presence to make up the lacking appeal of Skeet and right after Johnston got killed it really stood out how little Skeet had to offer .
The nutso nuts brigade made the argument to CBS that the viewers didn't stop watching the show, they just stopped watching it as far as Nielsen is concerned. CBS basically fired back with, "We don't care how you're watching the show now, we only care that you stopped watching it as far as the Nielsens are concerned." Tassler even said as much in between her faux gushing. I read between the lines and basically got, "You better watch it on TV this time, or we're going to cancel it again!"
Strike or no strike, if it gets numbers on par with what it was getting at the end of last season, it's out the door for good. And considering the time slot it has now, I see no way it won't get them.
Jericho is the only show on the lame ass CBS that I actually watch. How in the hell is CBS the most watched network. Their shows suck. I watched Ghost Whisperer for 2 seasons and that one sucked so bad that I actually quit watching it.

Fans of other networks wonder about this often. I personally found Jericho to be the only drama on CBS with any substance at all but I know there are oodles out there that love their crime and gore. And then there's Pam with her need to fulfill her fantasies about the military boys on the Unit. I do enjoy the Big Bang Theory but couldn't give a crap about overrated HIMYM, 2.5 Men (this one's not bad but doesn't keep me involved), or any of the others. TAR is pretty good and Big Brother is a guilty pleasure. Sadly for Jericho, ABC has left one of the final two Boston Legal eps for this Tuesday. Only God knows how much promotion ABC gave the show so if it were to beat BL, then I think CBS would probably issue endless PRs about it and could signal that the show does have a shot. I mean how hard is it to outdo Cane or Smith or 3 lbs or the other endless trash heaps we've been exposed to in this hour since Judging Amy was told to go to the retirement home?
Home of many of my fav shows such as The Amazing Race, 2 1/2 Men, Old Adventures of New Christine, Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight, CSI, Without A Trace, Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Power of 10, Survivor and Cane (RIP). And now they have Dexter!
