An article on how Couric is not CBS's only problem although right now she seems to be the main problem. I bet she lasts the election cycle and then goes somewhere else to host some sort of talk show.

Because election cycles are a time of widespread viewer sampling of different news shows, it is an ideal time to showcase an anchor of the future (anyone on the Nightline team, Mr. Anderson Cooper would be an inspired choice, even luring Mr. John Roberts back from CNN) or even an anchor with a foot in the past (I would watch Mr. Charles Osgood, Mr. Bob Schieffer, even Mr. Dan Rather...andwhat is Miss Connie Chung up to today?).

But the worst move possible is to leave poor Miss Couric languishing in the anchor chair, a lame duckling to all, always coming up fourth or fifth in the pecking order of network anchors as the Presidential candidates make their election spin after debates or as newsmakers want to share their story with an anchor.

They really would be better off getting some return for that multi-million dollar salary by putting Miss Couric on the CBS Morning Show (or whatever it's called) to get her to pry some viewers away from Today with her ever-present Pepsodent smile. And then, when contract is up, wave goodbye as she moves over to Mr. Larry Kings desk or wherever her puff-ball version of soft news best gathers up audience.
