A new show will have a hard time getting an audience up against DWTS and House. The unit does 10.5 to 11.5 weekly with 2.9-3.1 18/49. That should stay put. The other slot behind CSI is an excellent launching platform. The other would be Sunday night at 9pm and indeed moving CC to 10pm. The mentalist on Fridays at 9pm would be a good fit.Cancelling both Shark and Moonlight is the right thing to do.

CBS has to do something with Tuesday. It's one of their weaker nights. With the right promos during NCIS, they can get its viewers to sample a new show, and I see no reason why it can't survive against both House and DWTS. Remember, NCIS performed really well a few season ago when it had to face both AI and DWTS.

I disagree.. CBS has heavily promoted other shows and none did as well as The Unit !!
My personal feelings are CBS has no intentions bringing back The Unit but will regret that decision. The Unit seems to be going the way of C2H where it had impressive though not the best ratings/demos but CBS wanted it off so it got cancelled . CBS did the same thing years ago with the Walker Texas Ranger Spin-off called Sone Of Thunder .. It only ran a couple of episodes yet was always in the top 20 but CBS hated it so it got cancelled.

I really liked that Sons of Thunder too Pam. Thought it would've made one hell of a Walker replacement. Anyways, I agree the Unit will be returning now. Shark looks like a major goner. I think Without a Trace will fill Tuesday 10pm with new dramas airing on Sunday, Thursday, and likely Friday with Moonlight holding out for a midseason order.

From what I've heard, CBS is seriously considering giving The Unit a pickup order. It seems the recent USA Today article where the readers voted which on the bubble shows they wanted to return worked. Boston Legal lead the pack with a 44% favorable rating from the voters, but both The Unit and Christine were close behind with 41% and 40% respectively.

The only real question at this point is whether CBS will place it on the fall schedule or use it as a midseason replacement.

I've felt all along it would get 13 and it really makes more sense to air it in the fall and try a new show in the 2nd half of the season. If delayed until next spring, it will have been off the air for a year. Few shows can survive that, and it would make the order of 13 pointless.

Since it is given that there will be other new dramas on other nites, and perhaps new comedies as well, this lessens the promotional load in the fall and keeps a decent ratings producer in the mix while the new shows are tested. This is valuable flexibility, which may not exist in the other hours new shows are being tried, and may be chief among the reasons the show would be brought back.

Can Openers is no longer going forward, so The Unit could have stepped in at the Sunday at 8 PM slot sharing it with The Amazing Race which is looking like it will be mid-season again. A possible Sunday is developing like:

60 Minutes
The Unit/Amazing Race
Cold Case
Tower

I can't fault CBS if they make this switch from Can Openers to The Unit. The Unit fits better with the likely suspects for Sunday programming. Ideally, I'd move Amazing Race out of Sunday and into another day like Wednesday at 8, but I doubt that will happen.

As for new dramas, I still think you are going to see three new ones on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday and at least two additional ones mid-season. Friday new dramas are possible as Hollywood Reporter is now reporting on at least one (Harper's Island) is looking at a short episode order. If it makes it, surely it is a Friday show and in the Friday 9 PM slot.

If CBS wants to dump it, I think the CW would be more than willing to take it.

Has this happened yet?

No?

Well, you let me know when it does, k?
