I just noticed I hadn't made a CBS schedule.

Fall/Winter/Spring

Monday

8:00 How I Met Your Mother
8:30 Single White Millionaire NEW
9:00 Two and A Half Men
9:30 Untitled Mike Birbiglia's NEW
10:00 CSI: Miami

Tuesday

8:00 NCIS
9:00 Exit 19 NEW/Price Is Right
10:00 Without A Trace

Wednesday

8:00 Shark/ 8:00 Big Bang Theory 8:30 Rules of Engagement
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 CSI: NY

Thursday

8:00 Survivor
9:00 CSI
10:00 Eleventh Hour NEW

Friday

8:00 Ghost Whisperer
9:00 The Mentalist NEW/ Moonlight
10:00 Numbers

Sunday

7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 The Unit/ Amazing Race
9:00 Cold Case
10:00 (The) Tower NEW

I'd also open Saturday up for original programming. If Saturday opens up, it could be the home for a combination of Price Is Right, 60 Minutes, Moonlight, Shark, and The Unit.

MCK1117, I like your schedule. Very close to what I would do.

The two most important things for CBS are 1) to put an established show in the Tuesday 10 pm slot (WAT, CSI:NY, etc.) and 2) a new show out of CSI. Cold Case would probably fit better directly out of 60 Minutes. Why CBS keeps putting young skewing reality shows out of the ancient skewing 60 Minutes is beyond me.

I know. Figure it out already that they're skew on Sundays is older. Move Cold Case to 8pm or try out a new drama like Exit 19 or the Towers. Then I'd try similar older skewing series the Unit at 10pm and simply preempt that on the Sundays that the NFL runs over. On Tuesdays go with Amazing Race at 9 and then WAT at 10. A new drama then goes post-CSI and the third new drama can air after Ghost Whisperer on Fridays. Save Moonlight for midseason or just dump it and go with two comedies on Wednesday.

One way to split the difference here on Sunday is to put a younger skewing drama into the evening and this is why I have talked up CSI NY for the 9pm slot.

Free of any crime drama competition it would build out of CC at 8pm and provide a younger slanting lead in to a new show at 10pm.

As far as THE UNIT, I think it either serves some purpose on Tuesdays or is gone.

I agree with tvfan300's priorities about tuesday 10pm and a new show out of CSI. If you assume a new show needs a few years to grow in the time period they better get started. CSI will probably be doing solid numbers for a good while yet but they'd be better off getting ahead of the curve. Now they just have to have the show they have confidence in.

Based on what's happened in recent weeks and what we've heard about new and returning fare, here's what I think will happen now:
Sundays:
60 Minutes
Amazing Race (I don't want it to happen but I think it will.)
Cold Case
Towers

Mondays:
Big Bang Theory
Rules of Engagement
2.5 Men
new comedy- possibly Mike Berbiglia or whatever the hell that long titled thing is.
CSI:Miami

Tuesdays:
NCIS
The Unit or new drama
Without a Trace

Wednesdays:
How I Met Your Mother
Christine
Criminal Minds
CSI:NY (this could ultimately end up on Sundays with a new drama here)

Thursdays:
Survivor
CSI
11th Hour (new drama)

Fridays:
Ghost Whisperer
new drama or Moonlight (this returns at midseason regardless)
Numb3rs

Saturdays:
repeats and 48 Hours

Midseason: another new comedy or two and at least two new dramas

I know it won't happen, but his is what I think would be the best schedule:

Monday
The Big Bang Theory
Rules of Engagement
Two & a Half Men
New Comedy (Single White Millionaire?)
CSI: Miami

Tuesday
NCIS
New Drama (The Mentalist?)
The Unit

Wednesday
Survivor
Criminal Minds
CSI: NY

Thursday
The 11th Hour
CSI
Without a Trace

Friday
Ghost Whisperer
Moonlight
Numb3rs

Saturday
repeats and 48 Hours

Sunday

Fall
60 Minutes
How I Met Your Mother
Christine
The Amazing Race
Cold Case

Spring
60 Minutes
How I Met Your Mother
Christine
New Drama (Tower or Exit 19?)
Cold Case

With the comedies on Sunday, CBS could better handle the sport overruns and not adversely affect the night's later programming. On the east coast, they could preempt one of the comedies, while airing a repeat on the west coast. They could then use the AFC Championship Game as a launching pad for the new series in the spring.

Mid-season
The Amazing Race (spring edition)
One or two new dramas
Two new comedies

I think you got it completely right and CBS' fall schedule will look very similar to this.

RC, your schedule is bucking some of the recent cw (not the network) about the 10pm thurs period, which I think is the key to their schedule. But it raises some interesting points and offers some flexibility.

While I myself posted that they better get a move on building another hit out of CSI, the following is also true: they have to be very confident in a show before they put it in that period, or else it can really screw them up.

So, let's say ELEVENTH HOUR is their best newbie but they'd like a little insurance. 8pm Thursday should be a safe hour. Anything that deserves the post-CSI slot should be able to show some legs on its own. And moving SURVIVOR to Wed 8pm shouldn't hurt it and puts an appointment show into a slot they have had trouble with.

If HOUR clicks, at midseason they can simply move HOUR to 10pm, then make the move of WAT to 10pm Tuesday, to replace THE UNIT which will have served its purpose for the fall and then rides off into the sunset.

In the 2nd half of the season, they can keep SURVIVOR where it is and do the same dance at 8pm thursday with a new either pair of comedies or another new drama.

Are these too many moves? Most people have WAT moving anyway. SURVIVOR can sustain a move of one night. And HOUR moving from 8-10 on the same nite is a move they will be happy to make. Some people forget CSI moved twice in its first year. It changed hours on fridays and then moved to thursday later.

This has great possibilities by launching 2 new shows behind solid hits NCIS is a strong launchboard only if House stays on Monday nights as it is now. A new show will have a hard time getting an audience up against DWTS and House. The unit does 10.5 to 11.5 weekly with 2.9-3.1 18/49. That should stay put. The other slot behind CSI is an excellent launching platform. The other would be Sunday night at 9pm and indeed moving CC to 10pm. The mentalist on Fridays at 9pm would be a good fit.Cancelling both Shark and Moonlight is the right thing to do.

Bruce,

Its a shame, but I really believe that we're never going to see another successful (Top 3) scripted program launched in the 10:00 timeslot. With the increase in new cable programming at that time and the increase in time-shifted DVR viewing, the audience just isn't there. The nets should stick to scheduling new series at 8:00 and 9:00 only and leave the 10:00 timeslot to established and "maturing" shows.

Personally, I think the nets will go the FOX route and stop programming at 10:00 within the next decade. Frowner

CBS has to do something with Tuesday. It's one of their weaker nights. With the right promos during NCIS, they can get its viewers to sample a new show, and I see no reason why it can't survive against both House and DWTS. Remember, NCIS performed really well a few season ago when it had to face both AI and DWTS.

I disagree.. CBS has heavily promoted other shows and none did as well as The Unit !!
My personal feelings are CBS has no intentions bringing back The Unit but will regret that decision. The Unit seems to be going the way of C2H where it had impressive though not the best ratings/demos but CBS wanted it off so it got cancelled . CBS did the same thing years ago with the Walker Texas Ranger Spin-off called Sone Of Thunder .. It only ran a couple of episodes yet was always in the top 20 but CBS hated it so it got cancelled.

Pam,

From what I've heard, CBS is seriously considering giving The Unit a pickup order. It seems the recent USA Today article where the readers voted which on the bubble shows they wanted to return worked. Boston Legal lead the pack with a 44% favorable rating from the voters, but both The Unit and Christine were close behind with 41% and 40% respectively.

The only real question at this point is whether CBS will place it on the fall schedule or use it as a midseason replacement.
