David Bianculli has a nice blog entry on Letterman's annual Christmas show with Darlene Love & Jay Thomas. Couldn't they do one show for Christmas Eve? So much of the show is tradition that it practically writes itself.

Just do it without writers. No Monalog or bits. Just have day Comment on the paper to start, then have a real conversation with the guests.
