Am I the only one with interest in this show?

I think it will do OK, especially with the older CBS crowd that never caught onto Monk (no cable). I'm a little surprised that it didn't get the 10Razzerm Thursday slot, which would have basically been a walkover against the geriatric ER and the troubled genre show, Life on Mars.

I think this show will skew similar to Simon Baker's The Guardian, which aired in the same time period. And CBS prematurely axed it because it thought it was too old.

I actually thought it would skew too young. (For a CBS show). What actually is too old for CBS?

Over 50. None of the networks want viewers over 50, which is very sad and very stupid.

I agree that this show is going to skew old. NCIS already is older skewing and there's really nothing to The Mentalist's pilot that will attract the younger audience as it is set around Simon Baker. In fact, you might see Shark like old skewing right off the first few episodes.

I agree it will skew old but probably not any older than NCIS. Anything over a 3.0 demo will be fine in this tougher timeslot. WAT, however, is the one I think will be in trouble clearing a 3.0 in the demo because I do not see WAT growing out of its lead in.

There's no chance it will do better than Shark, that's my opinion. Although it's the only new CBS show i really anticipate. Looks very good

Call me crazy but I think House being in the 8pm slot could be a blessing in disguise here, as there will be a big audience watching TV at 8 that is into this kind of show. The question is if they'll change the channel. I actually wouldn't be shocked to see a bunch of House watchers eventually flip over to Mentalist - could help the demo too.

I thought Fringe had a significantly stronger pilot than Mentalist but House/Mentalist and NCIS/Fringe seem like better pairings to me.

Its the first crime drama on CBS that I will watch in a long time. 11th Hour also has a chance to reverse this trend here in the coming months. I may also get into Fringe but am guessing Joshua Jackson will drive me bonkers in the end. I always felt the Guardian was prematurely cancelled.

OK Welcome - The Mentalist rocks! John Edwards meets Psych.

As for Joshua Jackson on Fringe Mushu, he will drive you bonkers. I found him the worst part of the show mostly due to a level of acting much below the rest of the cast. Don't let that deter you. Just watch the entire 2 hour premiere before making a judgement. We watched on an airplane and after 30 minutes were on the fence on this one, but by the end, were hooked. OK - nothing to do with the Mentalist, so I'll just add another Kudos for Simon Baker turning the show into something above average.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with some interest. I'm a bit afraid of the references to Psych though. I have tried and tried to watch that show, but the only two full episodes that I managed were the ones with Cybill Shepherd. I just hate Shawn with a passion and can't figure out why Gus or his Dad are still speaking to him. The detective guy (who used to be on Judging Amy/Jericho) needs his own show. He's a hoot.
