You'll see some new adjustments compared to our first version of the game. I'm also including variations to choosing your 5 shows and a new feature called Wildcards. I know it's a lot to digest and I hope I won't confuse anyone reading this so if you have any questions, let me know. Thanks to Marc for giving me information about the broadcast TV schedule of each day in this 4-week game period.
Here are the rules: 1. You pick FIVE (5) shows. Use only ONE of the following 14 methods of picking your roster of 5 shows (each method requires at least ONE show from the CW and at least ONE show from UNI): If above graphic doesn't show,
1 show from #1 to #20, 1 show from #21 to #40, 3 shows from #41 to last place
2 shows from #21 to #40, 3 shows from #41 to last place
1 show from #1 to #40, 4 shows from #41 to last place
5 shows from #41 to last place
GOLD WILDCARD, 1 show from #21 to #40, 3 shows from #41 to last place
GOLD WILDCARD, 4 shows from #41 to last place
GOLD WILDCARD, SILVER WILDCARD, 3 shows from #41 to last place
GOLD WILDCARD, SILVER WILDCARD, CW WILDCARD, 2 shows from #41 to last place
1 show from #1 to #40, SILVER WILDCARD, 3 shows from #41 to last place
SILVER WILDCARD, 4 shows from #41 to last place
1 show from #1 to #20, 1 show from #21 to #40, CW WILDCARD, 2 shows from #41 to last place
2 shows from #21 to #40, CW WILDCARD, 2 shows from #41 to last place
1 show from #1 to #40, CW WILDCARD, 3 shows from #41 to last place
CW WILDCARD, 4 shows from #41 to last place
Note: If you're picking a telenovela from Univision or any network show that airs on more than one day and/or timeslot within the week, indicate the specific day and timeslot you're picking - for example, "La Fea Mas Bella" Tuesday and "La Fea Mas Bella" Wednesday are 2 different shows in this game; another example, "Bones" at 8 p.m. is a different show than "Bones" at 9 p.m. Of course, timeslots can change on a whim, even during a 4-week game period, so you can also indicate "Bones" (main day & timeslot), in case FOX decides to change the day and timeslot for the show's original programs.
Now, what is a WILDCARD?
A wildcard is a show that did not air during the week of November 20-26, 2006 but you think and/or know will air during December 4-31, 2006. Wildcards can pertain to new shows, returning shows, and even one-time airings (excluding breaking news) like sporting events, awards shows, special TV movies, and season/series finales. I may not have the entire list of airings in these lists of wildcards, so if you have any suggestions for shows to add, please post them on this thread.
2. You'll obtain points as follows:
The list (shown below in this post) the game will refer to will be the weekly most-watched primetime shows of the week of November 20-26, 2006
The points for your chosen show each week will use this formula:
(Number of primetime programs + 1) - (Rank position of your show)
For example, if the site publishes the top 100 primetime programs of the week, you choose "Desperate Housewives" this week and it ranks #2 in a week during the 4-week period of the game, you'll get 99 points for that week [ (100+1) - 2 = 99 ]
I won't count any shows from Telemundo (TEL), MyNetworkTV (MNT), and most cable shows.
For the week of November 20-26, 2006, there are only 113 primetime TV programs to choose from.
You can research on your own on how many times each of these shows will air during the 4-week period, which is crucial in winning this game. I even put some information, in parenthesis, among the ranked shows. I probably won't have all the information about the current programs and each of their future airings in this game period, so if you have any information about the shows on this list, please post them on this thread. You can also ask me on this thread about other shows' airing sked before you pick, but not even I have a confirmed schedule for the entire period of December 4-31, so pick at your own risk:
Using methods A or K, you MUST choose ONE show among #1 to #20 Using methods C, I, or M, you MUST choose ONE show among #1 to #40 Using methods E, F, G, or H, you MUST choose NONE
1. Desperate Housewives (ABC) 21.43
(less than 4 airings in December; a 10pm repeat airing on December 10 will
count for points as if it aired at 9pm)
2. CSI: Miami (CBS) 18.54

(only ONE original airing in December; you'll get 3.6 times the points by
picking this show because it'll air its FALL FINALE; if NBC happens to air
one Monday repeat of Heroes in a separate week during the game, the finale
will get a factor of 2.6; if NBC happens to air two Monday repeats of Heroes,
each in a separate week during the game, the finale will get a factor of 1.8)

DAY DATE TIMESLOT PROGRAM MULT FACTOR
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wed Dec 6 8:00- 9:00 America's Next Top Model finale (CW) (3.6x)
Tue Dec 12 9:00-10:00 Family Friendly Awards (CW) .........(3.6x)
EXPLANATION OF FACTORING WILDCARD POINTS using mathematics There are numbers like "3.6x" and "0.9x" next to each wildcard show. For our game, each respective number is their multiplication factor for each week that show airs to give incentive to anyone who wishes to use these wildcards. Obviously, without these factors, for example, a one-time event (which will always have a factor of at least 3.6) would not even come close in being competitive in points compared to a show that airs for each week in the 4-week game period.
Factors are determined by the number of potential showings within the 4-week game period: 3.6x for 1 showing, 1.8x for 2 showings, 1.2 for 3 showings, 0.9 for 4 showings. The multiplication factors are more for some select shows, especially select cable shows, except Monday Night Football, whose ratings are competitive with shows on the main broadcast networks. For those who still follow me, if you notice that despite the multiplication factors, shows that DID air from November 20-26 do carry a bit more weight.
Here's an example: say the SURVIVOR COOK ISLANDS FINALE will finish #1 out of 100 programs during its week. The show would get 100 points only for that week which is great for the week. But because it only aired ONCE, the show earns you ONLY 100 points for the entire 4-week period. With its multiplication factor of 3.6 in place, the event now earns 360 points for the entire game, making the choice for this wildcard more appealing. Yet, a show that averages a #7 position (out of 100) each week for the 4 weeks in the game period, will earn you greater points (376, in fact) than the WILDCARD that finished #1 for its one week. (If you're still confused by this mathematical explanation, don't worry - just think of wildcards being on some even playing field in points in the game with shows currenty on the air).
NOTE ON BASIC CABLE SHOWS from Disney Channel AND Nickelodeon I know there are other popular cable shows on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, but I'm unfamiliar with them and from what I see of the weekly cable ratings, shows from various times reach the high rankings - difficult to determine a specific day and time to pick from for our game.
3. You can have similar shows on your roster than other players but you can't copy the exact 5 shows from another player.
4. Even after you initally post your roster, you CAN change it as much as you can before the submission deadline, keeping in mind RULE #3 about copying an exact 5-show roster from another player. However, you CANNOT change your roster of shows after deadline has passed, which means you are stuck with the 5 shows you picked in the 4-week period. So choose well!
5. You can also post as many comment and discussion posts as you want in this thread. Especially since I added MUCH more information in the instructions, you defintely can ask me any questions in this thread.
6. It is preferable that when EDITING your roster, you do so as a REPLY and not clicking the "Edit" icon at the bottom right of your post. As a reply, the entries can be TIMESTAMPED, which is important. If a player does "Edit" their roster after their deadline has passed, I'll be forced to go with the roster last posted (not "LAST EDITED") by that player before the deadline.
7. This particular game will last 4 weeks from December 4 to December 31 - winner of this game will know if they win on January 4, 2007.

There are several new WILDCARDS in place, including AMAZING RACE 10 SEASON FINALE (CBS), AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL SEASON FINALE (CW), and BROTHERS & SISTERS (ABC) airings. I apologize for not including them sooner but I have just recently thought to add them to our game. I also added some info on the ratings list about DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (ABC), HEROES (NBC) and EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION (ABC) if you'd like to pick either one. You may adjust your rosters if you'd like to include any of the new wildcards (also NOTE that I have adjusted the multiplication factors for several WILDCARDS also) or switch to the shows I've added new info on. To be fair to you 11 participants, I'll extend the deadline only for each of you until Tuesday, December 5, 2006 8:59am ET (before any overnight numbers are received for December 4 shows). As for any new player including myself, the deadline is the same (Monday, December 4 6:59pm ET) For more information, please refer to this link:
NOTE #2: Although I created this game, I thought it fair to have a 48-hour waiting period for myself to post my roster in order for anyone else to get first chances at the list of shows. You can make your roster right now; the earliest I can post my roster will be this Friday, December 1 at 4:30pm ET

Marc, you have to replace either Ugly Betty or America's Most Wanted with a Univision show. I was contemplating NOT including Univision but their ratings nearly mimic the CWs and I've been getting a full listing of their shows since September so I can't eliminate the requirement.
The funny thing is that MyNetworkTV is trying to copy Univision's format with the telenovelas but the shows look so hastily produced. And in the ads for their finales that are coming up soon, the announcer tells the viewer that both these shows will be gone "forever." What a shame! I have no plans to watch their new soaps - not even the one with Tatum O'Neal.
2. CSI Miami Silver Wildcard: Friday 12/8 CBS 3.6x Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer. 73. UNI La Fea Mas Bella (Wed.) 80. CW Friday Night Smackdown 42. Law and Order Criminal Intent
Thanks for doing this -- what a lot of work! Thanks to the kiddies, I do know the shows on Nick and Disney, so if you ever want them sorted out for inclusion, just ask. Nick airs its new shows on Sundays and the rest are just reruns. Disney is less predictable but they do promo the heck out of anything new.
