A few years ago, the Billboard.com website used to have an online game called "Billboard Challenge" which asks users to pick 10 albums and see how they fared in a 4-week period. Back in 2000, I actually won this contest and received a prize... of Billboard information CD-ROM! So it wasn't a great prize but a prize nonetheless.
Well, I'll introduce such a game here and see how it goes. Here are the rules:
1. You pick 5 shows: a. Only one (1) show from last week's programs, ranking 1-20. b. Only one (1) show from last week's programs, ranking 21-40. c. Only three (3) shows from last week's programs, ranking 41-last place but at least one (1) show has to come from The CW and at least one (1) show has to come from Univision (UNI).
Note: If you're picking a telenovela from Univision or any network show that airs on more than one day and/or timeslot, indicate the specific day and timeslot you're picking - for example, "La Fea Mas Bella" Tuesday and "La Fea Mas Bella" Wednesday are 2 different shows in this game; another example, "Bones" at 8 p.m. is a different show than "Bones" at 9 p.m.
2. You'll obtain points as follows: a. The list the game will refer to will be the weekly most-watched primetime shows at the L.A. Times website (http://www.calendarlive.com/tv/) b. The points for your chosen show each week will use this formula:
(Number of primetime programs + 1) - (Rank position of your show)
For example, if the site publishes the top 100 primetime programs of the week, you choose "Desperate Housewives" this week and it ranks #1 in a week during the 4-week period of the game, you'll get 100 points for that week [ (100+1) - 1 = 100 ]
I won't count any shows from Telemundo (TEL), MyNetworkTV (MNT), and of course, any basic cable shows but I will count shows from Univision (UNI).
So for the week of November 13-19, 2006, there are only 124 TV programs to choose from (Reference: http://www.calendarlive.com/tv/cl-et-tvratingstext22nov....story?coll=cl-tvent). You'll start to obtain points in 2 weeks, starting from the November 27-December 3, 2006 list. Here are the top shows of (Nov. 13-19) to choose from:

3. You can have similar shows on your roster than other players but you can't copy the exact 5 shows from another player.
4. You can post as many comment and discussion posts as you want in this thread but you can only post your roster of shows once, so think carefully before posting.
5. This particular game will last 4 weeks from November 27 to December 24 - winner of this game will know if they win on December 28, 2006. If this is a somewhat successful thread, I can start another overlapping game on another thread next week so another 4-week game can start December 4 and the winner of that game will be announced on January 4, 2007.

I remembered from the old Billboard Challenge game that there were bonus points awarded for such things as the "Greatest Gainer". Also, there were variations on which albums to choose from - so using our game as an example, you can choose all 5 of your shows that ranked 41 and below.
These extra incentives for points might have been too complicated, which is why I wanted to keep the instructions as simple as I could to kick this game off. However, since there is some interest here, I'll implement these extra features at the start of the next game (which starts this Wednesday). Here's what to expect:
- Bonus points for being the most-watched show of its night - Bonus points for being the most-watched show of its network (Don't know how many bonus points yet - please suggest!)
Also, you can choose 5 shows using one of the following scenarios (all of them would have to include 1 show of CW and 1 show of UNI): - 1 show from 1-20, 1 show from 21-40, 3 shows from 41-last - 2 shows from 21-40, 3 shows from 41-last - 1 show from 1-40, 4 shows from 41-last - 5 shows from 41-last
And finally, if you notice, the deadline of submission correlates to one minute before the start of the week of primetime shows, according to the list we use.

Obviously, it would be unfair to pick the top 5 shows as your roster of 5 - there are limits - so among your 5, you have to choose a CW show (no problem for you ) and a show from Univision. Refer to the very first post of this thread for more detailed instructions.
In 2 weeks, you'll start to acquire points for each show you pick on how it'll do in the coming weeks. Why 2 weeks and not this week? I can't start implementing it for this week because you could find out how each show has done among viewers this past week from the Overnights in this forum.
Explaining the point system in detail might confuse you even more, but let's say that you will do as well in this game as your chosen shows will do in its viewer numbers.
