In honor of the upcoming NCAA Basketball Tournaments, this site is doing a bracket based on the most commonly used phrase in this forum, especially by Marc, which is "overrated".

The "winning" show will be have the distinction of being PIFeedback.com's MOST OVERRATED SHOW OF THE YEAR! And you could help determine this!

I've determined the seedings of the show based on the hype of the show and juxtapose it with its quality along with the sentiment described in these forums. Here are the seedings, set by me:

1. American Idol (FOX)
The champion of the 2006-07 bracket has earned the right to be the #1 seed in order to defend its title as "most overrated." I suspect its "win" last year was due to an Indian boy named Sanjaya, but with Sanjaya-like contestant, Danny Noriega, out of the picture this time, we'll see if this really can "win" again.

2. Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
Formerly the #1 seed of the 2006-07 bracket was upset then by the similarly-themed but laugh-challenged single-camera sitcom, Scrubs. Nothing has changed much in terms of the show's quality so the polarization of the forum about this show continues...

3. Heroes (NBC)
Newcomer to the bracket but much deserved this season for its increased criticism in its second season. Even the show's creator has apologized - I wish Tim Kring could have told us sooner so we wouldn't have wasted our time! Highly hyped but for now, not much substance.

4. 30 Rock (NBC)
Currently the Emmy-award winner for Best Comedy. Even Marc Berman liked the show for a brief period of time but has since gotten bored by it again. This show has been labeled as "never will be a hit", "too inside" and "the new Arrested Development".

5. Lost (ABC)
Much has improved in terms of the show's direction since its proposed end date in 2010 but it still doesn't fail to tick off at least some of the forum.

6. Pushing Daisies (ABC)
Forum member pisher's "favorite" show! Smiler The highest seeded program in this bracket to premiere this season was much lauded by critics last fall and premiered to over 13 million viewers. Yet its most recent original episodes were only able to attract about a little more than half of its premiere audience and perhaps its concept may be a bit too limited for a series run.

7. Scrubs (NBC; ABC in 2008-09)
The show that managed to knock off Grey's Anatomy last year has boggled the mind of many (including Marc) in this forum recently because it found some way to not only remain on television for another season but switch to the network Grey's is on. Brian and Stewie Griffin from Family Guy said it best during the opening of the 2007 Emmy Awards: "You've got Scrubs on NBC in seasons seven and a half, with the antics of the lovable and talented Zach Braff, who reminds us that a sitcom doesn't have to make you laugh..."

8. Deal or No Deal (NBC)
"We'll open this suitcase... right after this!" (cut to commercial). Don't you just love when Mr. Mandel stretches the show like that? Wink This show cannot give the million dollars away while game shows like 1 vs. 100, Power of 10 and The Price Is Right have done so in the past year. Even the ABC game show dud, Duel, gave away over $1.7 million. I think the show should keep the gimmick of having 13 million-dollar suitcases until they find a winner. In fact, perhaps that should be the new game for this show from now on because it's not like everyone (or anyone) has been winning the top prize so far.

For the period of March 8-12, the top 8 seeds get a one-week bye; this period of time is labeled as the Play-In period.

Here are the rest of the seeds that will be playing in the Play-In period:

9. Extreme Makeover Home Edition (ABC) Annoyingly oozing with goodness and charity.

10. How I Met Your Mother (CBS) The CBS version of "Friends", although that might not be a good thing here.

11. Nip/Tuck (FX) Would you believe this high-class camp once won the Golden Globe for Best Drama? I love it but you may not.

12. Jericho (CBS) Your peanuts gave CBS the go-ahead to grant it a second season... so about 60-70% of its first season audience can enjoy it again!

13. My Name Is Earl (NBC) The tentpole sitcom to rescue NBC Thursday nights back in January 2006. How is that working out for them?

14. Friday Night Lights (NBC) Hope you're not dizzy reading this, as you may be when watching the shaky-camera filming of this football drama.

15. Gossip Girl (CW) "90210" of the 21st Century? Not yet.

16. Hannah Montana (DSNY) Show's a hit. Miley Cyrus is a hit on the music charts. Even the concert movie's a hit. But does that mean quality? Barney and Teletubbies were also hits with kids in the 1990s - not exactly top-notch programming for us adults.

17. The Hills (MTV) Like, this is a show about, like, rich young folk, like, living in California doing basically, like, nothing. Not to mention the show has introduced one of the most annoying media-hungry couples of today, Heidi and Spencer.

18. Dirty Sexy Money (ABC) "Dynasty" of the 21st century is not as campy as its predecessor. Good cast, some good acting and writing but has not yet been a hit.

19. Moment of Truth (FOX) Reality television at its guiltiest. Now, why would you go on this show if you got a shady past? You better walk away with some dough, now!

20. New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS) Not a laugh-out loud sitcom nor nearly as clever as Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' previous work (ahem, Seinfeld).

21. Desperate Housewives (ABC) Has returned from the quality depths of its second season but has it returned to the top quality of its first season? Not yet.

22. Saving Grace (TNT) Critics hailed it. An Academy Award winner stars in it, is even the show's producer. And the lead character gets to talk to God - it's Joan of Arcadia meets The Closer! Who needs Ambien when you got this show!

23. Two and a Half Men (CBS) CBS' #1 comedy (not counting CSI: Miami Wink ) still manages to cause some anti-sentiment. Maybe the show is getting too perverted or raunchy. I'm still laughing a lot but you probably are not.

24. 80th Annual Academy Awards (ABC) Yes, let's get excited for movies like "No Country for Old Men", "Atonement", and "Michael Clayton"! No thanks. Jon Stewart was a solid host (or maybe not, in your view) but you know the ceremony is a dud when the most exciting part about the event happened before the show and on a cable network, where Jennifer Garner (who I loved on Alias) was disgusted by a kiss on the neck by "this man", the nutty Gary Busey, while flustering so-called interviewer Ryan Seacrest.

You can vote on which show in each matchup is overrated.

This poll first took place on Saturday, March 8, 2008. The "winner" of this bracket was ultimately determined on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7:00PM eastern.

Between the #4 seed 30 Rock (NBC) and the #8 seed Deal or No Deal (NBC), the "chump-ion" is...

30 Rock (NBC)

Once again, between the #4 seed 30 Rock (NBC) and the #8 seed Deal or No Deal (NBC), the "chump-ion" is...

30 Rock (NBC)

Question:
Do you agree with the forum's choice of 30 Rock (NBC) as the "Most Overrated" Show of the 2007-08 season? If you vote "no", which show should have been?

Choices:
Yes
No, it should have been Deal or No Deal (NBC)
No, it should have been another show I mentioned in this thread

Keep an eye on the Gossip Girl vs Grey's matchup. We may see an upset in the making.

- Three of my personal Futile Four aren't even in the original field (maybe I'll go around bashing my overrated shows more often in the next year!) but this one is, and I hope it takes the cake after a terrible second season. But even the first season wasn't as good as was usually touted.
30 Rock - I'm actually picking what I feel is the superior show, as I did with FNL over Moment of Truth. But in terms of overratedness, this beats Jericho. It's good, but I don't think it holds a candle to The Office, which it beat for the Emmy.

So, the Futile Four is set and it's all NBC programs:

[#3] Heroes (NBC)
[#4] 30 Rock (NBC)
[#7] Scrubs (NBC) (upsetting the #2 seed Grey's Anatomy (ABC) for the second year in a row!)
[#8] Deal or No Deal (NBC) (upsetting the #1 seed and defending 2006-07 overrated champion American Idol (FOX))

(My picks are 30 Rock and Scrubs)

Definitely 30 Rock and Scubs. The two most overrated comedies on TV today. At least people watch the other two.
