This episode started with a very long segment of personal conflicts between the models at the house. It seems odd that when this season started, Allison and Fatima were portrayed as the two ‘evil souls’. Now, we have Dominique, Lauren, Claire, and Whitney stepping up to prove that they can be more horrible. The other 5 models have clearly isolated this group so they don’t have to interact with them as they fight, 3 vs. 1 style (Claire, Whitney, and Lauren trying to berate Dominique into the ground). As a viewer, I am left with the belief that I wouldn’t want to live with any of these 4 for even 1 day.
The first challenge was a pose off with Tyra Banks (now wanted by the New York City cabbie mafia for illegal driving) doing all the commands/judging. She tells the models to act like their head hurts, or their inner thighs hurt or whatever, then turn it into a pose. Lauren is the big loser because she can’t do ‘painful palms’. Anya is the big winner with the reward being a nude photo shoot with Nigel Barker. From what they showed of the photo shoot, she looked like she has trouble keeping her eyes open. However, the 3 shots they showed to represent that photo shoot all looked excellent.
The big photo shoot challenge for this week was for each of the models to pose as a different musical genre. It is a great chance to ‘play dress up’ and, of course, to paid the models up with an image that is not their own so we can see how well they adapt.
The call out this week was as follows:
Whitney: Her photo shoot was ‘Grunge music’ and all the judges agreed that she did well. Jay Manuel was impressed on set with her also. Moreover, she is supposedly scared of heights, yet pulled off the photos while atop an old diving board structure. She is definitely moving into the category of ‘real competition’ in this season. Now, if only she could get a new personality that wasn’t so vile and some coaching to stop her from saying/doing a ‘whatever’ at the end of every topic she discusses.
Katarzyna: Second call out and I don’t even remember what her photo shoot was supposed to be. Alternative? All I remember is that she wore a wig and the judges liked it so much that they repeatedly told her that she would be getting a haircut/makeover soon.
Fatima: Third callout this week with ‘Metal Rock’ as her musical genre. Basically, she had the makeup and tongue action of Gene Simmons and came out with a good shot. I was just happy to see her get through an episode without being involved in the personal drama cries for attention. Her only knock this week was that the photographer was disappointed with her effort in the photo shoot.
Lauren: She was supposed to be ‘Pop’ music. She ended up looking like an album cover for The Cars. Lucky for her, that was a good thing. She is 6ft.1in tall and beautiful. Her biggest drawbacks are still an extreme lack of self confidence (which the judges told her at panel yet again to be more lively when she is in front of them at panel) and an inability to speak clearly. She could definitely be another mumble mouth winner of ANTM as long as Tyra doesn’t find out how she acts in the house.
Anya: She portrayed ‘Punk’ music, though the wig made it looked like she had just been electrocuted. The judges thought her photos were ok and the photographer suggested to her that she needed to be more aware of where to find the light so that her face wouldn’t be in shadow.
Dominique: She portrayed ‘Folk’ music and she looked like she was in her 50s – way too old for this competition. They did some nice touchups on the final photo to de-age her significantly, but the final photo was ‘ok’ at best. The judges found her portrayal of ‘Folk’ believable, but thought she needed to work more at getting her whole body involved with the shot. Meanwhile, back at the house, we see her portraying the results of a hostile work environment as her three roommates continue to persecute her.
Stacy Ann: The judges didn’t like her photo and the photographer and Jay Manuel thought she was too busy being a poser to get a good shot. Once again, the lipstick in the photo shoot over emphasizes her lips. All in all, it was hard to believe this was the same model that was called out first last week.
Claire: She portrayed ‘Country’ music in her photo shoot. Before the shoot began she was talking with a country accent and square dancing. It seemed like she would do well. Unfortunately, she brought her model side into it and posed in a high fashion model way rather than a ‘country singer’ way and the judges were very unimpressed with her ability to adapt to the genre. Tyra calls it Claire’s worst photo shoot ever. If the fans pay any attention to Jay Manuel, Tyra, the photographers, the other judges, or the footage of Claire’s behavior back at the house, she will not win the viewers choice award again next week. I guess we will see next week if that award is based upon what people see at all or just based upon the number of fans she had before this season ever began.
Aimee: She portrayed ‘R&B’ music. We were told she was a good Mormon. We see from her photos that although her people really like R&B, they don’t know how to ‘look R&B’ at all. I can’t say it was really fair to edit it that way since R&B has to be one of the harder (and more prone to boring outcomes) photo shoot choices this episode. So much for Aimee being the most versatile in the photo shoots. She told us she wanted to be a model, but that she wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing a nude photo shoot. She told us she was more mature than people (the judges) thought. All the editing led us towards the idea that Aimee just isn’t ready for the real world of modeling.
Next episode preview: Lauren becomes even more vile than in this episode. Coming in a few weeks: Beautiful and intelligent women wanted for serious plowing (not so subtle humor attempt in the promo): Farmer Wants a Wife will air after ANTM.

America's Next Top Model - "I don't think I can pose nude"
Very true. The part that makes it a fatal statement is that the people saying it seem very clear on their intent that they think any nudity is the same as 'porn'. Consider this past 'nude' photshoot. Sure, she wasn't wearing clothes, but the pictures do not reveal any level of nudity that wouldn't be available if she were wearing a swimsuit. If you present the attitude that that sort of modeling/art/photography is the same as pornography, you can't expect the models/artist/photographers that judge the show to have much respect for you.
Another fatal ANTM statement is: 'I am not sure if I want to be just a model'. The cast members that let it slip that their real goal is clothing design or photography or business rep. usually get sent home fairly quickly afterwards.
