Transgender Contestant to Compete in Next Cycle

quote:
One of the 14 girls who will compete on the new season of America's Next Top Model – which returns to The CW on September 3 – is transgender.

"My cards were dealt differently," Isis, a 22-year-old former receptionist, tells Us Weekly exclusively in its new issue, on newsstands now.

Hailing from Prince George's County, Maryland, Isis identifies herself as "a woman born physically male."

Will she be a role model?

"I like to help people, but I'm here to follow my dreams," she tells Us.

The inclusion of Isis is being hailed by GLAAD president Neil Giuliano as "an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television.

"We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible," Giuliano said.

No. This isn't a ratings stunt. Why do you ask? Roll Eyes

I still think an all male edition would be a good switch.

They've always been free to do that. It would probably work best as another show by itself.

It's not like CW doesn't have some underperforming slots available!

Start up a new reality show: "Girl or Tranny?" where the 'answers' are given on the final episode.

"Isis, we have your Birth Certificate. Were you born with or without?"

ANTM will also travel to Amsterdam, The Netherlands this season. Tyra was spotted several times in Amsterda, last June and my local Entertainment Tonight, called RTL Boulevard, showed a short clip from one of the tapings. They sneaked in the bulding were ANTM was filming.

Maybe we'll hear Tyra say "Our Final Challenge will blend new styles witone of Amsterdam's most treasured traditions. Get ready for Red Light District Runway!"

It would not surprise me at all to see a photoshoot based upon window sillhouettes and/or redlight shining on lingerie clad models. That will be down the road a ways, though, after they go to the international destination. For the early episodes, expect several makeover episodes and lots of drama about what it takes to be a model.

Well, this isn't as good as Obveeus' Reviews, but I'll give it a shot.

After two weeks with "born a man" Isis still in and ShaRaun and Nikeysha out we come to find Miz Tyra dressed up as a Fairy Queen. Of course, Miz Jay comes in as the Evil bi-er-Witch and Mr. Jay as Prince Something. Miz Tyra then announces its Makeover time.

Ususally, there are a lot of girls who got shorn of their hair, but I guess Fairy Queen Tyra was in an Weavey mood. Brittany, Elina, Isis, and Joslyn got more hair.

Brittany waas long and wavy and I don't think it affected her much. Isis got a little bit of extensions, and ditto.

Joslyn also got a weave, but I didn't like her as much with it.

Elina got the curly red hair weave, which is working for her in a Angelina Joilie kind of way.

Marjorie the french Girl got brown hair, which is doing great from making her look more sexy. I'm picking her as this cycle's Brittany Hatch. From Cycle 8, she had great instincts and would amaze the judges for taking great shots. then they flew her to Sydney and she tanked on the Go-Sees and the commercials and was eliminated. I fear this will happen to Marjorie as well.

Analeigh, the Ice Skater got her hair dyed blonde, which really worked.

Clark got Dyed black, which really got me to notice her.

Hannah Alaska got bobbed and its OK

Lauren Brie got bleached and also looks OK

McKey is looking better with shorter hair and a black dye

Sheena was given highlights and looks OK

the best recipient of the Makeover was Samantha, who now looks wicked hawt with shorter hair

Then they all went for a swimsuit posing challenge with an SI photog and Susan Holmes' swimwear. Marjorie and Samantha do well, but the winner is Elina with a shot that only shows her head and not the suit at all. Go figure.

Isis seemd a bit self-concious (we don't know if the show let them know about the secret) Analiegh shows some problems with posing, but its Brittany that gets thrown off.

You did good. I decided to skip writing reviews this year since ANTM,Pushing Daisies, and CBS sitcoms are all crushed into the same hour of tv (not to mention Stylista coming on later). I'll be timeshifting instead of typing this season.

IMO, some of these girls go through the entire casting process just hoping to get on the show and get a nice $3,000 weave. They don't want to be models, they just want hair they cannot afford.

One of the online bonus clips for the episode showed a couple of the models commenting on Elina crying because she wanted to look like Angelina Jolie and expected long black hair.

Marjorie will be fine as long as she avoids the alcoholic floozy mode Brittany went into.

The haircut was old looking and I don't think it helped as an effort to make this 'innocent child' look more sophisticated.

I hates this haircut. She needs more hair.

They definitely turned a 'girl next door' head of hair into a 'model' head of hair. Expect her to go far this season.

It was a total copout for some of the final photos to be 'head shots' when it was a bathingsuit modeling challenge. It was also a copout to give Isis a pair of briefs (and allow for a body concealing pose) as a suit rather than a string bikini.

Isis has shown that she can wear a bathing suit with the help of a lot of tape.

I wonder if the Producers told the designer and the photog about her 'secret'.

Within the show, we had a clip of Jay telling Isis that they were not told. Maybe that was simply a lie to help boost Isis' confidence befroe the photoshoot, but I think it was more likely the truth.

Two Girls Eliminated this Week

I was wondering what the point was for blindfolds. I think it was rather suspicious that none of them deviated too much from the path even after taking a 90 deg. turn.

But I'll give points to McKey for "Runway Modeling for a Carol Burnett skit". Did they think putting a Curtain Rod in was original?

And more props to Samantha on the photo shoot. When she opens her mouth, she seems dumb as a tack, but she can model outside of the box.

It was pretty clear from the way they walked that they could see the ground/path. maybe they couldn't see out at the audience, but they could see all they needed to navigate the runway. Overall, I think it probably helped the models not to be able to see the judges faces.

That wasn't some idiotic gimmick the show came up with. That was a genuine idiotic outfit from the real designer featured on the show. Genuine runway fashion is often like that. The idea being to make the outfit/designer memorable and to get the outfit photographed for the many fashion magazines that reveiw these designers' work. If you noticed McKey as she walked away, the outfit was very attractive from behind (and from the front as well): a nice backless dress. All the designer has to do to make the outfit wearable/sellable in the real world is replace the 3ft curtain rod with a pair of female dress insert shoulder pads. Voila, a wearable version of the dress shown on the runway.

Side note: the designer didn't even know how to dress himself. The biggest thing that would hold back his image in the fashion world is his personal appearance.

I liked the photoshoot this week. Very comparable to what a real makeup ad might do. Also, the photos were nicely enhanced with photoshow afterwards. Usually, the photoshop effort is much cheesier on this show.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to be suspicious

Looking at the photos, I'll also give props to Lauren Brie (like the cheese) who put her arms up in a Hindu-like fashon.

The Girls this cycle seem to be all over the places with skills. Elina did #1 last week, but couldn't handle it this week. Hannah could do a commercial well, but couldn't walk to save her life. Marjorie looks good and sexy, just don't ask her to relate. None of them seem to be well-rounded.
