'Lipstick' kisses off showrunners
By Nellie Andreeva

July 19, 2007

NBC's adaptation of Candace Bushnell's best-seller "Lipstick Jungle" is taking another turn in its windy road to the small screen.

The show's executive producers/showrunners, Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline, were let go Wednesday morning as the dramedy is being taken in a new creative direction.

The search is under way for a new showrunner to take over the midseason series, whose production start date has now been pushed to November. "Lipstick" writers had been working on upcoming episodes with one script already completed.

The Universal Media Studios-produced "Lipstick" revolves around three successful professional women (Lindsay Price, Brooke Shields, Kim Raver) in New York.

No casting changes are expected beyond the announced recasting of Shields' husband on the series. The pilot is expected to remain intact save for the recast character's scenes.

On "Lipstick," the new showrunner will serve as executive producer alongside Bushnell.

The change at the helm of "Lipstick" is the latest twist in NBC and UMS' efforts to adapt the book as a TV series.

First, the network greenlighted a pilot written by Robin Schiff and Bushnell two seasons ago. Gina Gershon was cast as one of the three leads before the project was shelved.

Following a second "Lipstick" script by Jill Gordon, Heisler and Heline came aboard in October. The duo penned a new pilot script, which became the pilot that landed on NBC's schedule for next season.

I believe they're gonna keep tinkering with the show till they have another disaster as CBS had with "My Big Fat Greek Life" or CW had with "Hidden Palms". Shoot, NBC, just go ahead & make the show, already!
