[STRONGEST COMEDIES, CHUCK CAN GET THE YOUNGER VIEWERS, & PUT AN ALREADY SUCCESSFUL SERIES ON THURSDAY]

Originally posted by TOTP:Chuck may skew young, but against the demo powerhouse Grey's anatomy and still-a-hit show CSI: it will die. And the show has a good premise, so I want it to succeed. And Thursday @ 9PM is not the right timeslot. Just leave it @ Monday 8PM.
I think that Chuck might suffer a bit, but putting comedies there would make it suffer more. Maybe if Chuck shared the slot with The Apprentice Celebrity Edition 2, so it didn't repeat as often, that would help. Being between Earl and SVU, I think would benefit it.
Two Hours Left? Sob: According to sources, one option NBC is considering for Friday Night Lights is to "wrap it up" as a two-hour movie of the week. That's not nearly enough, if you ask me, but at least it's something. We're also hearing the show has already been looked at by at least a few other networks. In the meantime, some of you genius fans got together on the WWK message boards and launched this site. Any and all FNL fans should check it out to help save the show!
Series Pickups for Next Season: According to sources, ER has been ordered for a 22-episode season 15 (!)
I'm really surprised that ER may actually be returning for all 22 episodes, especially since they had to do budget cuts for it to return. ER better have its guest starring roster lining up for its 15th and presumably final season (I wonder if Noah Wyle will return during the last seven or so eps, or if he'll just return next season. And I'm hoping that former regulars return too).
And I hope NBC is able to wrap of FNL or at least give it off to another network.
So to catch up with all the NBC news for next season:
These shows are officially returning this summer or next season (or have at least been renewed):
-America's Got Talent -American Gladiators -Chuck -Heroes -Last Comic Standing -Life -Sunday Night Football -The Biggest Loser -The Celebrity Apprentice
While Deal or No Deal, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, The Office, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are locks in returning. While ER, Medium, Law & Order, and 1 vs. 100, seem to likely be returning too.
And as for new shows, these are officially picked up:
-3hr Reality/Documentary Block -Celebrity Circus (Reality) -Fear Itself (Anthology Drama) -Kath & Kim (Single-Camera Comedy) -Nashville Star (Competition Reality; Taken from USA) -Robinson Crusoe (Adventure Drama) -The Listener (Supernatural Drama) -The Philanthropist (Drama)
And the two-hour backdoor pilot/movie, Knight Rider, airs this Sunday. So I guess the ratings for that will determine if its picked up.
And shows ordered to pilots...
-All Rise (Legal Thriller Drama) -Blue Blood (Cop/Crime Drama) -Kings (Political/Soap Drama) -Man Of Your Dreams (Multi-Camera Comedy) -The Interrogator (Game Show Reality) -Top Gear (Competition Reality) -Zip (Single-Camera Comedy)
And the futures of Heroes: Origins, The Singing Bee, and The IT Crowd seem to be iffy. Journeyman, Bionic Woman, and Scrubs are not returning. Las Vegas's fate is up in the air, along with Clash of the Choirs.
Then shows like Quarterlife, Amne$ia, The Baby Borrowers, and My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad have yet to premiere. And the ratings for Lipstick Jungle's give the series a dim future.
NBC has a lot to choose from; so for a network in 4th place, I really hope they make the right choices.

I read somewhere that most shows resuming production after the strike wouldn't start back up just to film four or five episodes unless they were pretty much guaranteed that the show would be picked up for another season. So with most of NBC's shows resuming production, except the ones that have been postponed until next season, does that mean that all, or most of them, will be back next season?

I find 4 drama pickups and 3 more dramas ordered to pilot surprising. I thought they would be more conservative in this area.
All of this activity seems inconsistent with 22 eps for ER, a VEGAS return, and full seasons for L&O and MEDIUM.
Fear Itself and The Listener are suppose to air during the summer, so that will take away from the amount of dramas they will air in the fall. So it'll be interesting to see where Robinson Crusoe and The Philanthropist will go, when Heroes, Life, and Chuck, are officially returning. While ER, Medium, Law & Order, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are most likely returning too.
And I think Las Vegas will return, depending on what drama pilots they pick up. All Rise and Blue Blood have already been cast (and I think their pilots were shot before the strike). Both seem likely that they'll get picked up. While Kings has had no casting and neither has Robinson Crusoe. And of course there is Knight Rider, which could also become a series.
NBC has probably done the most with their development slate than any other network, but I feel like they have no where to put them. I guess Silverman is serious about the year-round programming.

Pretty much. ER, Medium, both L&O's, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, and The Office are all going to have new episodes and they all seem like they'll be returning.
But NBC is only airing the five unaired pre-strike eps for Scrubs, and has yet to confirm if they'll film the final episodes and NBC also didnt order any more episodes for Friday Night Lights or Las Vegas. Which is why I dont think any of those shows will return (even though Scrubs was already confirmed to end).

Year round, and another conclusion that can be drawn from the volume of shows is less reliance on drama reruns except on Sat nites.
I could see SVU in a regular orig/rerun format during the reg season but most everything else on more or less straight runs.

"American Gladiators," "Law & Order: CI" and "Medium" go to midseason to take over for football on Sunday. "1 vs. 100" (and any other game shows like "Amnesia" that ostensibly might do well) and "Dateline" also to midseason.
"Moronic Woman," "Journeyman," "The Singing Bee," "Lipstick Jungle," "Phenomenon," "Friday Night Lights," "Las Vegas" and that inane dad show that premiered last night cancelled.
As for shows that are "supposed" to be airing in the summer, he said, she said...
Sun 7:00 Football
Mon 8:00 Deal or No Deal 9:00 Heroes / HEROES: ORIGINS (new show) 10:00 THE LISTENER (new show)
Tue 8:00 The Biggest Loser 9:00 Celebrity Apprentice 10:00 Law & Order: SVU
Wed 8:00 ROBINSON CRUSOE (new show) 9:00 Life 10:00 Law & Order
Thu 8:00 My Name Is Earl 8:30 30 Rock 9:00 The Office 9:30 ZIP (new show) 10:00 ER
Fri 8:00 Chuck 9:00 KNIGHT RIDER ("new" show) 10:00 FEAR ITSELF (new show)
Well, this is not really a prediction, more of how I would do it.
SUNDAY - FALL Football
SUNDAY - JANUARY 7PM - Dateline 8PM - Robinson Crusoe 9PM - The Listener 10PM - ER (Do a 13-16 episode run to close out the series with no repeats)
MONDAY 8PM - American Gladiators / BermanBraun reality series 9PM - DOND 10PM - Medium
TUESDAY 8PM - Biggest Loser (please make it just 1 hour) 9PM - My Name is Earl (this is where the show began and has success) 9:30 - 30 Rock (I would drop it but I know NBC will keep it) 10PM - Law and Order SVU
WEDNESDAY 8PM - DOND 9PM - Fear Itself 10PM - Law and Order
THURSDAY 8PM - Office 8:30 - Kath and Kim 9PM - Chuck 10PM - Heroes / Heroes:Origins (this has been where NBC has always had their signature / top rated series and they need a strong player on Thursday nights again)
FRIDAY 8PM - 1 vs 100 / other gameshows 9PM - Las Vegas 10PM - Law and Order: Criminal Intent

I guess whether or not Fear Itself and The Listener could air in the fall, but both press releases for each series, stated that NBC plans to air them during the summer. Silverman said that he is hoping that The Listener can air simultaneously during the summer with the Canadian network that it will be airing on (since The Listener is produced in Canada and NBC is paying a portion of the costs).
And Fear Itself already started production (www.productioncharts.com/charts/), which is a bit early for a new show that has been ordered to series. So they could hold it off to the fall, but NBC doesnt have any reasons not to air it during the summer as originally planned (maybe if the strike had lasted longer).

Well, you maybe right about NBC airing those shows in the summer. They issued a release today that they would be announcing a 52 week schedule in April to advertisers. And I know that with the Olympics coming this summer they are going to be aggressive before and after the Olympics. On top of the shows you mentioned, that also (I believe) have announced a summer edition of American Gladiators.
MONDAY 8PM - Chuck / American Gladiators 3 / Chuck 9PM - Heroes / Heroes:Origins / Heroes 10PM - The Listener (new show) / Medium
TUESDAY 8PM - Biggest Loser 9PM - My Name is Earl (new time) 9:30 - 30 Rock (new time) / Man of Your Dreams (new show) 10PM - ER (new time)
WEDNESDAY 8PM - Deal or No Deal 9PM - All Rise (new show) 10PM - Law and Order
THURSDAY 8PM - Office (new time) 8:30 - Kath and Kim (new show) 9PM - Celebrity Apprentice / Celebrity Circus (new show) / Deal or No Deal 10PM - Law and Order SVU (new time)
FRIDAY 8PM - 1 vs 100 9PM - Las Vegas (new time) 10PM - The Philanthropist (new show)
SUNDAY - FALL Football
SUNDAY - JANUARY 7PM - Dateline 8PM - Knight Rider (new show) 9PM - Life (new time) 10PM - Law and Order: Criminal Intent (new time)
Stability and familiarity and these shows all flow well together.
Tuesday 8:00 The Biggest Loser 9:00 The Philanthropist 10:00 Law & Order: SVU
Starting with Tuesday, we get non-scripted fare at 8pm each night - leading into new scripted shows three of the nights and bookended by returning dramas in the 10pm hour.
Wednesday 8:00 Deal Or No Deal 9:00 Fear Itself 10:00 Law & Order
NBC should hold this until the fall. Especially since "Lost" won't be on until January and it did very well in that slot as a Sci-Fi type show.
Thursday 8:00 American Gladiators 9:00 The Office 9:30 My Name Is Earl 10:00 ER
Friday 8:00 1 vs. 100 9:00 The Listener 10:00 Life
"The Listener" sounds like it is in the supernatural/crime genre ... might also work as a Monday show.
Saturday 8:00 Movie
Sunday (Fall) 7:00 Football Night In America 8:00 Sunday Night Football
Sunday (January) 7:00 Dateline NBC 8:00 Deal Or No Deal 9:00 Robinson Crusoe 10:00 Law & Order: Criminal Intent (repeats)
