It will be interesting to see how well the chimps at NBC handle this show. Will they keep it on the air and simply burn off the episodes after ratings crash and burn in week 3 or will they pull it and go for one of their shows waiting in the wings like Medium? Realistically, Medium could be on the air by mid-November and air relatively repeat free for the year.

The script for the show was very well done. 10x better than any of NBC new dramas last season, IMO. And I rather see them re-tool the show to make it better rather than rushing production and airing something crappy. And since in the pilot, his wife (Madchen Amick) is only in a few scenes, its not like they're going to have to refilm the whole thing.

Even TheFutonCritic gave the script a rather positive review:

I completely agree. The NBC schedule makers for some reason doesn't see the blatantly obvious compatibility and brilliance of a Heroes-Medium pairing. Why not have Medium air first, then have My Own Worst Enemy when Medium runs out of episodes?

Well the show may be well liked among critics but if I recall, most critics thought Journeyman had a real chance too and a lot of them wanted Studio 60 to work too. And a script isn't even close to the whole story. What they reviewed, has probably been changed three or four times by now. Having Life air in its timeslot for a few weeks will do it no good either as that will likely not hold much of the Heroes lead in. Honestly, I've thought this show's chances would be as good if not better airing away from Heroes.

Journeyman, and Life for that matter, were not that well received by critics. At least not initially, but by the time Journeyman became more well liked, the ratings were already too crappy to justify renewal.

Also, I doubt that the script has changed that much (if it even has), mostly because the previews have accurately matched a lot of what happens in the script. The only thing that has been changed about the show is some casting. And the original exec producer (who wrote the pilot), is still a writer on the show, he just wont be exec producer anymore.

And as for Studio 60; that show isnt even compatible with Heroes and to this day, Aaron Sorkin and tv critics were both disappointed with the project.

I also think it would be smarter for NBC to premiere it the week following Heroes, because Life skews too old and those audiences arent that compatible. There's a lot of talk of airing Medium after Heroes, which I'll admit is a perfect pairing, but it makes logical sense for NBC to try to launch a new drama after Heroes, rather than just pairing Heroes/Medium together. Because thats really only a temporary solution to NBC's ratings problems, because the net cant keep relying on older shows like Medium or Law & Order to do well.

My only concern is if script will translate well to screen. In most cases they do, but you never know. But the casting so far for the series, especially with Christian Slater, Madchen Amick, and Alfre Woodward, I think is great.

I really think that Medium is the way to for NBC on Monday. I don't think that Chuck is stable viewer wise and could possibly fail. NBC would be depending on viewers of Heroes tune in early for Check and stick around afterwards for My Own Worst Enemy. Medium has fans who are pretty loyal to it and compare to Law & Order or ER, it's not that old. It's only got 1 more season under it's belt than My Name is Earl

I think a smart thing to do would be to have Chuck, Heroes, and Medium be the first round then come January, have something like a two hour premier on Sunday with the next new episode airing in it's new regular time after Heroes.
