I never thought that some of their programming ideas during the strike would work, but they actually paid off for them. Let's just see how well they can do when the other nets come back with original programming.
NBC isn't digging out of the cellar. They've just managed to utilize the Law and Order franchise and DOND to their advantage. They also got decent results out of American Gladiators, Medium, and Biggest Loser.

NBC just had the smartest strategy to hold up during the strike then the other nets (with the exception of FOX). ABC went downhill once Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives finished airing and CBS didnt schedule enough new programming and just figured their repeats would do well but they arent.
NBC will definitely be in 4th place again by the end of the year, but I dont think it will be too far behind the other nets. But NBC (so far) is the only net to release a full summer schedule (with some summer shows still not scheduled) and they'll have the Olympics. So once June comes, they should start doing extremely well.

Am I crazy to think that Lipstick Jungle's marginal ratings, but high demo are enough to save it from the jaws of cancellation?
Friday Night Lights has lower ratings and a lower demo and it practically has gotten a renewal already.

I would not be surprised at all if it got renewed. NBC has already ordered 6 extra scripts, so they'll probably be produced and air sometime during the summer (like after America's Got Talent). NBC also wants more female targeted shows, and Brooke Shields and Kim Raver are some big names for television. And it did have less competition this past Thursday night, but it did go up almost 2 mil viewers from its last airing and held 83% of The Apprentice's audience while Eli Stone held less of Lost.

NBC did have an overall good strategy. If ABC wasn't run by chimps they would've done much better than NBC, buts thats beyond the point. As for summer, I think Fox will outrate NBC until the Olympics. They have one hell of a summer lineup with SYTYCD and Hell's Kitchen plus their shows tend to repeat half decent. ABC should also improve this summer thanks to the Bachelorette, the Mole, and the High School Musical series and I wouldn't be overly surprised if Oprah returns to the summer too.

I was hoping for a few more episodes of "Chuck, but I guess it was a smart idea to wait until the fall for a relaunch. Other than "The Office", there's not much to look forward to post-strike on NBC.

Yes. NBC could really find itself in a nasty situation come May. If I were them, I'd stock up on some movies to fill what will likely be some pretty big holes on Fridays and Saturdays. At least Monk and Psych are being used as filler on Sundays, but how much longer will they stick with My Dad, Amnesia, and how long will this season's Biggest Loser go on? That will be TWO hours to fill on Tuesdays. Dateline can't air every night. The Wed. lineup will be ok and Thursdays will see everything back. I would've had 1 vs. 100 ready to fill Monday at 8 and an hour on Tuesday along with Dateline on Tuesdays and then on Fridays go with Movies. They can continue with the same week encores of Law and Order on Saturday.

There is also Earl coming back, but yea, you are right. I wonder how many times Unvivision will out perform NBC come late april? quote: Originally posted by Jared: I was hoping for a few more episodes of "Chuck, but I guess it was a smart idea to wait until the fall for a relaunch. Don't laugh. Once Biggest Loser is over, 2 hours of nothingness comes to Tuesdays. Who knows what they'll have on Fridays this spring. Perhaps another night of the Law and Order trio? quote: Originally posted by TV-aholic: There is also Earl coming back, but yea, you are right. To Summarize, holes that need to be fill for May Sweep on NBC (CAPS MEAN TIME PERIOD SOON WILL BE VACATED, except 'ER') Monday: 8PM: MY DAD IS..(Ends Apr 7, possibly sooner...) 9PM: Deal Or No Dead (May be 2 hour DOND every Monday for 5 to 6 weeks?) 10PM: Medium Tuesday: 8PM: THE BIGGEST LOSER, Ends April 15 (2 hour Dateline?, Movies) 10PM: Law & Order SVU (Returns April 15) Wednesday: 8PM--10PM: Some combination of Law & Order CI and DOND (DOND 4 hours per week and counting) 10PM: Law & Order Thursday: 8PM--10PM: Comedy Block Starting April 3 (Full servings come on April 10) 10PM: 'ER' Friday: 8-11PM: Friday Movie? (How about a Las Vegas Movie Finale) Sunday: 8-11PM: Dateline and USA Repeats... At this rate, I can see NBC is going for DOND 5 times per week (except Th and Sa), 2 hours each.

I don't know why they don't order up 10 eps of 1 vs. 100 and let that fill Monday at 8 and Friday at 8 into movies. Tuesday can go to 2 hour Dateline with the same-week encore of the L&O franchise continuing on Saturday. On Sunday, I would also have a 2 hour Dateline with Monk and Psych being pushed back to 9 and 10 respectively.

I think NBC should swap the time slots for ER and Law & Order SVU. The Tuesday 10pm slot on CBS seems to be cursed by the departure of Judging Amy and ABC's Boston Legal isn't a heavy hitter. SVU is a heavy hitter and could take on Without a Trace considerably better than ER or Lipstick Jungle or whatever CBS decides to air there.

I think next year they should air the final season of ER right away and then in March launch something this young male skewing comedy block would stick around for. Maybe superheroish or even a cop drama of some sort. If it fails, then I agree trying SVU may be the best option.

If they want to hook young viewers, wouldn't NBC have a better shot doing that right away in the fall while they still had NFL as a promo? Save ER for spring when the young crowd starts to wander away from the TV sets anyway.
SVU on Thursday is a bad idea. What is the point of proping up Thursday if Tuesday colapses in the process?
If NBC really want to do some good on Thursday, Scrubs and 30 Rock need to be cancelled.
