I'm leaving out a few shows he had that aren't really on the bubble, but in summary, here are the odds (out of 10) to return, in his opinion:

Aliens - 3
Back to You - 7
Boston Legal - 6
Eli Stone - 7
HIMYM - 8
Men in Trees - 5
Moonlight - 8
New Amsterdam - 6
Old Christine - 6
Reaper - 4
Terminator - 9
Shark - 5
Unit - 5
WMC - 4

I added a couple that he has added.

This guy is as biased as everyone else. I don't for one second believe Eli Stone has a better chance than WMC or Boston Legal and I don't think Moonlight has that great of a chance either. If it falters at all on Fridays in coming weeks, adios. Reaper should be at least 50-50 because the CW has nothing else and will need to fill holes.

I could see Eli Stone getting pushed ahead of WMC and Boston Legal. Eli Stone is the type of show ABC loves and will give a second chance. WMC, on the other hand, is a show ABC for some reason does not favor. They dumped it on Friday and its Tuesday airings are more burn offs than anything else, especially if there isn't a ratings increase. Boston Legal skews too old for ABC to really care if it stays or goes.

If I had to rank the chances of each of the three coming back:

Eli Stone: 95%
Boston Legal: 50%
WMC: 10% (it has to do amazing Tuesday numbers to stay on)

Check the Tassler interview in the CBS thread for HIMYM and CHRISTINE where she said "both shows look good" which is a rare vote of confidence this time of year.

I would put BL around an 8 as I think most of this fuss about these final weeks' ratings is a
bit naive

They've gone to a good bit of trouble for WMC so I have that at a 7 with a hedge in case of a complete no-show in the new slot. I think all it has to do is breathe two weeks in a row.

I have ES around a 5 as I see the special airing as rope to hang it if there is no transference of the viewers. They occasionally need rope because there are politics in this business sometimes.

I would put SHARK at about 3 and put THE UNIT at 6 because this is better demo insurance for midseason in case a new show were to blow out at 9pm.

I would bump REAPER to a 6 as Ostroff's yack of a female slanting network is a wish of hers and not a reality.

I knock MOONLIGHT to a 6 because seemingly the very best it can hope for is the same % of GW retention that didn't get it renewed to begin with while the net hums away looking at paranormal and other female slanting fare that could be on friday nite

Most interesting that Mr Ausiello gives "Men in Trees" a 5/10 chance of returning, ahead of WMC, Reaper and Aliens in America.

Agreed 100%. Why don't you take over CBS and NBC and I'll take on ABC and Cdub? Wink

This is my favorite:

Life Is Wild
The bad news: The cast and crew are already out of Africa.
The good news: CW has yet to officially cancel it. But that may be because they forgot it exists.
Odds of Survival: 0

I agree that Eli Stone probably has the best chance of the three. An excerpt from today's USA Today:

... the show is one of ABC's most time-shifted and upscale series; it's the only one of the in-limbo dramas owned by the network; and it has a fan in the man who'll decide if it stays or goes.

Is Eli Stone more upscale than Boston Legal? The higher timeshift is an artifact of airing on Thursday and is not a 'good thing' anyway. The 'in house' issue may be the real difference, though, as it so frequently is.

Last year they brought back two in-limbo dramas (OR and MIT). Same situation is very likely to happen this year with ES (and they have already announced that they are going to bring back DSM). Although I think that ABC would realize WMC is a friday show (I don't see it stand a chance with SVU airing on Tuesday, skewing same type of audience. Plus, the first eps of WMC aired opposite the hyped about Robin William SVU episode on Apr 29). WMC belongs on Friday @ 9pm where it succeed.

Laying aside WMC and BL for a moment, just how long do they suppose ES would last if renewed?

The defining characteristic of this show is that it loses audience each week regardless of what the circumstances in the hour are or what the lead in is

The in-house issue can be significant but the show won't be very lucrative to them if it is doing less than 5mm after a month or so next year and has no hope of living beyond 2 seasons

Sunday's numbers were higher than it's usual. The show got off to a quirky start with the frequent musical numbers. I think those will be used less and the show will build just like Berlanti's other show Brothers and Sisters did after a slow start.

I have to disagree on this one. Ausiello did seem to have some accuracy. He factors in the bias' of the network execs into acct. Although Men In Trees at a 5 seems like a bit of a stretch. I was surprised he gave Cane as high as a 2, but realistically, CBS called it a long shot, but not quite dead (which I guess is the definition of a "2".)

Moonlight certainly seems like a shoo-in. CBS loves anything that will get them noticed by the youngsters and the ratings don't suck for it.

And you said Reaper is 50-50, he gave it a 4 - is that a big difference of opinion?

I was referring to the thursday nite airings and its lead ins there and the competition there. Yes, it picked up with the DH airing.

He left Til Death and Rules of Engagement off his list. What does that means he thinks they are dead already ?
