I don't disagree, but isn't Dick Wolf a one-trick pony? Outside of the Law & Order franchises, his only lasting show was New York Undercover on FOX. Now that ratings for the Law & Order shows are failing, what incentive should they realistically have to appease him?
I agree. They weren't too scared to cancel Trial By Jury or Convictions and they put the Mothership in the Friday 10pm death spot. I don't think Dick Wolf is all that scary to NBC Universal. It's what have you done for me lately and Wolf's batting average has taken a dive the last few years. Isn't the TNT syndication deal for the mothership up this year? Would that have an affect on it's cances for renewal??
I think Criminal Intent should drop either Noth or D'Onofrio, preferably Noth. The fans in the past have expressed concern D'Onofrio would be dropped. I hope that's not the case. He makes the show in some respects, imo.
They brought Noth in because of Vincent D'Onfrio's "health problems". He physically couldn't take the grind of the entire season so they split the difference and have two sets of detectives to give him some "rest". If they cancel CI I hope they bring Noth to the Mothership to partner with Green. The new girl adds nothing to the show except jiggle (which I guess was the point of casting her since she can't act very well, at least not in this role. No one would seriously think she was an NYPD detective and L&O is based on "realistically" portraying the criminal justice system, not on the Charlie's Angels schtick from this year)

Would D'Onofrio be able to do a full season now? It could help with costs of the program. I also agree on putting Noth back on the mothership. He would make a nice addition, at least for a final season.

I think that ALL of these shows could go and it wouldn't make much difference. Out of the list, the ones that I would be most sad to see gone would be Medium, The Class, and Close to Home. Everything else would be A-OK in my book.

I have a couple of questions. First, I've read in several places that NBC wouldn't cancel any of the L&O shows at the risk of offending Dick Wolf. So, why is it that NBC would be afraid of offending this man? Yes, he has created some of the most popular shows on the network, but as someone else has said, he seems to be a "one-trick pony". All of his shows are carbon copies of another one. And according to recent reports, the cost of producing these shows is rising, while the ratings are falling. So if this is true, why would NBC keep these shows around just to keep from offending Dick Wolf? And on another note, why is everyone so sure that any of the L&O shows will get the axe? It seems that I remember reading a couple of months ago, just after the Winter Press Tour, that NBC had already renewed all of the L&O franchise shows, along with My Name Is Earl. Did I imagine this, or did someone else read this too?

Because Law & Order is a huge franchise which NBC has made big bucks off of. quote: Originally posted by mediumfan: I have a couple of questions. I've always watched Law & Order: SVU when I had free time. I enjoy ever episode. Law & Order was a tradition of watching when I was in high school, my family would always gather around watching it. I wouldn't be devistated if it was cancelled, but it would be a little sad...this is exactly like the CSI stuff, I think crime shows were in, but hit the top of the mountain, and are now trailing back down, slowly. Of course, in a few years, it will shoot back up just like every style of shows...but i guess what's hot is reality and drama. Sitcoms hit their peak a few years ago, in the Early 2000's, and went back down, but now, I think, are slowly, VERY slowly, moving back up to their next peak. Wow, that's a lot of words of wisdom!

The only L&O show that was renewed was SVU. The original and CI were not renewed as of yet. NBC is not that afraid of offending Dick Wolf. If they were they would not have cancelled Trial By Jury or Conviction. Dick Wolf is a big boy and been in this business a long time. He knows it's all about the ratings and what have you done for me lately. His days as king of the mountain have faded. While L&O SVU has some value to the peacock, CI and the mothership are on their way down in the ratings, tetering on the edge of making money and losing money for the network. With NBC 4th in the ratings game, pacifying Dick Wolf is the least of their priorities.

The cancellation of Trial by Jury was dumb in my mind. It had no lead in and was pulling over 10 million viewers. The mothership can't even do that now. quote: Originally posted by dd2007: quote: Originally posted by mediumfan: I have a couple of questions. Has anyone heard that Rene Balcer has been rehired to run LAO? If it's true, that doesn't bode well for CI. If RB was going to save a show, you would think it would be his own creation.
CI may not get the ratings, but it certainly brings in billions in syndication.

I wonder if the local syndication deal for the fall is a factor in the cancellation or renewal?

I'd bring CI back as a midseason replacement or shove it off to Fridays after Las Vegas. Then move the Mothership back to where it belongs on Wednesday at 10. quote: Originally posted by xwiseguyx: I would be surprised if CI was canceled. I think the network is in such poor shape that even marginal performers like this one look decent. I know some think that all marginal shows should go in favor of untested new stuff, which in NBC's case, provides even more horrific results, but I don't agree with that philosophy especially when there are so many holes in the lineup already.

Rene Balcer is now the creative consultant on the mothership. He will also be writng some of the episodes left this season. That is the best news on the L&O front all year.

It would be even better news if he would write the season finale (series final) of CI as well. If CI is canceled I would prefer for it to be written by Rene Balcer since he created the characters of Goren and Eames. I do feel he is about the best writer in the whole L&O franchise.
