Did he announced what show he was talking about? I know it isn't Law and Order though.

A couple observations on the original “blind item”. I know that most people think the series in question is either “Close to Home” or “Law & Order”. However, Ausiellio never specifically mentions that this “hit” series airs on Fridays. Could the criteria he mentions be applied to any other series on another night? Perhaps the soon-to-relocate “Crossing Jordan” on NBC, which like “Law & Order” has seen its ratings decline steadily over the years. Another NBC possibility is “The Apprentice”. The move to Los Angeles and the addition of his children has not helped the Donald Trump reality series.
“Las Vegas”, as already mentioned, is another possibility. The series, however, has weathered its move to Friday for two seasons now. On the flip side, the network did decide against a full-season renewal for the series. “Medium” is another possibility. Virtually any NBC drama series – save for “SVU”, “Criminal Intent”, and “Heroes” – could qualify. I agree that “Close to Home” is the only CBS series likely to fit the criteria, as all of the other drama series on the network seem to be secure.

Fox doesn’t seem to have any drama series that would fit the criteria, and surely the network isn’t ready to dismiss “House” or “24”, even though the latter is beginning to wane this season so far. ABC doesn’t have that many drama series to begin with virtually all the veteran dramas assured of returning due to the networks overall under-performing line-up. So, that leaves us back to NBC and CBS.

Finally, “Home” be get the ax – even if it isn’t the subject of Ausiellio’s blind item. The network has the most stable and successful line-up of any of the broadcast networks. In order to debut new series, those marginal series that would likely otherwise be renewed, will instead get cancelled. With the exception of the Tuesday 10:00 p.m. time slot, CBS is hard pressed to find any serious trouble spot in need of fixing. Surely the network will debut more than one new series this fall. With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of surprise cancellations of series (such as “Cold Case” or “Shark”) that ordinarily would get another year.

That's why I think it could be Boston Legal.

For the Friday Shows, there is not much of a demo available to grab, but BL is way out of wack for the other shows, within the demo for that night/hour.

Just last week L&O: SVU pulled a 4.1
BL (2.6) just edged a REPEAT of CSI Miami (2.4).

It was even worse the week before
L&O:SVU - 4.9
BL - 2.8
Without a Trace repeat - 2.6

How can you even think SHARK is a possibility?
It IS the highest rated now show of the season and pulls a decent number within the Demo. It is not that far off what Without a Trace did in its first year.

IF CBS was to shake things up for the sake of shaking things up, The 8pm Comedies are at risk and Close to home. Jericho IS in line for the chopping block

Why would CBS cancel “Shark”? Simply because it needs a time slot to put a new series in, is why. Sure, “Shark” is doing just as well as “Without a Trace” did during its first season, but “CSI” hadn’t peaked in viewership (as it apparently has this season) and likely provided “Trace” with a weaker lead-in than “Shark” currently has. If CBS had more problems areas to fix, “Shark” would be a shoo-in for a sophomore season (and may still be regardless). I was just using both “Shark” and “Cold Case” as two examples of series that are considered safe that may be canceled.

I don’t see CBS making many substantial changes to its line-up and would be surprised if the network had more than half-a-dozen new series. The only areas where I could conceivably see CBS making changes (that is, inserting new series) is Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m.; Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m.; and Fridays at 9:00 p.m.

With “CSI” beginning a likely slow fade in viewership, CBS would be wise to begin looking for its successor so as not to be caught napping on Thursdays like NBC was when CBS challenged the peacock with “Survivor” and “CSI”. None of CBS’s current crop of dramas (including “Shark”) – save for “Criminal Minds” – looks to be capable of being inserted into the “CSI” slot.

As far as CBS canceling its comedies in the 8:00 p.m. hour, the same scenario holds true. Unless CBS decides against launching any new comedies and doesn’t want to attempt a second comedy bloc (most likely of two comedies), then “Mother”, “The Class”, and/or “Old Christine” should be safe. However, if CBS wants some new comedies, look for possibly two, or all three, of those comedies to be gone. Of those three, “Christine” seems least likely to get the ax, especially since star Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been honored with an Emmy for her work. Currently, the young demographic will likely be the only thing working in favor of “The Class”, that and its from the producers of “Mad About You” and “Friends”. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see “Mother” get canceled and “The Class” renewed, while “Old Christine” is shipped off to a new night.

Shark might have been a possibilty a while back but not anymore. It has gotten better of late in both quality and ratings. But how can you think that with all of the holes ABC has to fill, and with Boston Legal building substantially in ratings out of the rubbage airing before it, that ABC would think of cancelling it. That demo will be a lot higher when Dancing With the Stars takes the 9/8c slot on March 27.

I still think it is Close to Home or Law and Order: Original.

If CBS really loved the Class, they would've given it a full season instead of just 17 episodes. I'd say both Christine and HIMYM will be back, as will Rules. If CBS has a new comedy they want, one of those three will be moved, probably to Wednesdays at 8 and two new comedies will be launched.

So, they will cancel their only freshman hit of the season form something new and unproven? Not a chance.

Also, don't be to ready to start counting CSI down and out. It still has plenty of life in it.

I too don't think you will see to many changes in CBS for next season. More than like similar to what they did this past season. (4 new shows)

I am not a fan of any of the shows that have been speculated. But based on the description and looking at the number. It seems to be the most likely candidate.

Last week BL did build on Primtime's 1.8. But 2 weeks ago it lost viewers from Primetime's 3.4. Three weeks ago, it had a small uptick from PT's 2.6 to BL's 2.9.

Why are we so focused on CBS for the blind item. Personally, I believe the blind item refers to Crossing Jordan. The last new episode scores a 4.7 on Sunday with a 2.6 in the coveted demo. I think a 2.6 is okay on a Friday night, but not on Sundays.NBC is going to move it to Wednesdays.
As for Close to Home, I don't think anyone has referred to it as a hit, especially since it was saved from the chopping block last season.
Crossing Jordan has been touted as a middling hit by the network until now.Anyway JMHO

It's not Boston Legal. I read somewhere that it will be returning next fall. Also this show may not doing well in the 18-49 demos but it does attracts affluent viewers so therefore ABC isn't going to give up this baby yet.

I agreed it is either Close to Home or Law and Order. But I tell you one thing, if it actually Law and Order, I think that we would know the series finale. I don't think NBC doesn't wanted to pissed off Dick Wolf by cancelling his show without officially announced series finale. As of Close to Home, I just don't see this show coming back next fall unless CBS is going to put it as a midseason replacement. Although this show isn't doing too bad in HH, their 18-49 demos are fall off. Their show skewing much older than last year thanks to them fired Christian Kane who had a younger fanbase. I know that once he left, a lot of his fans did too. CBS should have promoted Jon Seda and Cress Williams more because they brought them to attract younger viewers, right? David James Elliott didn't need the extra exposure due to his name and once he joined the cast the show became older skewing since his fanbase are much older and former JAG fans.

It is because CBS is the only network that is know for cancelled shows that had good household total but poor younger demo. See Joan of Archadia and Judging Amy. Not to mentioned, CBS still fight its image as being the old people's network and they have no problem sending old skewing shows to the chopping block.
Despite Crossing Jordan was in trouble on Sundays, I don't think that NBC is going to cancelled it (unless it does poorly on Wednesdays) and also the creator of CJ also happened to be creator of Heroes so apparently NBC is trying harder to make Crossing Jordan suceed again. But his clue also mentioned of a show that performed better than the other shows had tried in that timeslot and also he sounded like this show had never attracted younger viewers. Crossing Jordan have been on Mondays for a very long time and it did had minor success attracting younger crowd so I don't think Austillo was talking about CJ.
Close to Home has been referred as a minor hit because when they was moved to Fridays last year, they did better on that timeslot but as the season ended last year, their younger demo dropped. This show never successfully attracted younger viewers. And this year, they started to do decently with the younger demo and even did 3.0 on the first two episodes as people were excited about David James Elliott but as he appeared less throughout the season and also didn't like the retooling, people started to tuned out. CBS really want to make this show work and to attract younger viewers because it is a Bruckmeier show. Also I bet that Close to Home isn't that cheap to make because Bruckmeier shows aren't cheap to produce and I can see that CBS isn't making lot of money on C2H. Otherwise, it would have gotten cancelled when it aired on Tuesdays.
