The only way for this 'trend' to occur is for FOX to start dropping network affiliations and searching out new ones. How often do you think that happens?

This was a unique situation where the Fox affiliate was XETV (Mexico). No brainer for KSWB to upgrade, but that won't be possible in most markets.
Remember that CW only programs 2 Hrs Prime 6 nights a week, and an afternoon block on the weekends. A station can have great programming they control the rest of the time. The affiliation is only a large piece of a particular station.

The problem is that if no one's watching in primetime, the same tends to happen in daytime. Take a good look at the programming of 80% of the nation's CW affiliates. It pales in comparison to the big nets, particularly the ABCs and the CBSs who utilize the likes of Regis and Kelly, Dr. Phil, and Oprah. The NBC affiliates tend to have lower overall daytime numbers but also typically have stable performers too like Ellen and Access Hollywood. Its a market by market thing but there's an overall trend.

A lot of CW has Springer, 2 1/2 Men, and Family Guy. It's impossible for every affiliate not to be affected by prime in daytime, but it's better than being an independent for most of these stations, which is probably the real option for most of them.

Yes and while its easy to say that about the massive cities where the money is, fact of the matter is most CW affiliates are digital subs of another channel in the market. Many of these digital subs are part of the old WB 100+ Station Group which is now called CW Plus. Its highlights in daytime include King of Queens repeats, Sex and the City repeats, and Steve Wilcos. What a lineup. I do like the daily Roseanne repeats though.

And yet people have been propelling this thread forward under the idea that there will be a rush on FOX network trying to steal away these prime CW affiliates.

So not to sound like an idiot, but this means that viewers in the San Diego ared are not going to get CW shows next season, correct? It will now be FOX affiliate shows? Thanks.
Peace!!

CW will undoubtedly pick up the former FOX affiliate or one of the other local market stations as its new affiliate.

The Fox affiliate may be bigger right now but I'm guessing it will have a long hard fall with Cdub programming in the mix. Expect them to go after local pro sports teams and plenty of preemptions for better programming in the future. Plus, I don't see the folks who watch this station's local news necessarily watching their primetime stuff. Nevertheless, probably will have decent lead ins at 7 for primetime unlike most CW stations that serve up King of Queens, a very unfitting series. If I were CW, I would start bidding on the now declining Friends for the 7pm hour for CW Plus affiliates. quote: Originally posted by Obveeus: CW has signed on with XETV in San Diego. In my local market, MyNetworkTV has a 7-8 pm block of MySimpsons and MyFamilyGuy (that's how they advertise it) which is most excellent for delivering the young adults to the network. I've seen Simpsons/Family Guy as the Prime Access hour block for several other MNT affiliates as well. Whereas The CW in my market also has King of Queens (I agree, not a compatible A18-34 lead-in, but probably stripped to please distributor-parent CBS) and Malcolm in the Middle (still pretty edgy after all these years). The CW affiliates should pool resources and bid hard to get American Dad or How I Met Your Mother when they finally debut in off-network. Or even That 70's Show.

I doubt that a network bent upon attractiong the youg FEMALE demo would want American Dad as a lead-in. How I met Your Mother would be a great asset, though, for whomever gets it in syndication.

HIMYM should've gone into syndication this year but most def. by next fall. Syndication tends to help out a show and I think it could really help out HIMYM, which is much funnier than I originally billed it and is mostly on the wrong network for younger viewers (although given the state of comedies, is probably safer on CBS than ABC or NBC). I still think with Friends getting shoved off and a potential movie on the way, these CW Plus affiliates should battle to get Friends.
