Here are a couple questions that have been on my mine.

1.) TV has changed more in the last 5 years than in the last 50 years. What is the future of network television? Will ratings even out with cable channels? Will TV eventually only air on the internet?

2.) What is the future of advertising on television? In the age of Tivo's and DVR's how will networks continue to make profit?

Marc, what do you think of the possibility for the growth of subscription commercial-free (pay-TV) television in the US & Canada? Will we see more digital channels from current players like HBO in the US and TMN in Canada; or will we see more new entrants like "Superchannel" in Canada which lauches this fall?

They are wrong...drat! HEre are the real final results for Thursday, Oct. 11:

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 15.91 million, ABC: 12.83, NBC: 8.20, Fox: 6.85, CW: 3.99

-Adults 18-49:
ABC: 1.5 rating/13 share, CBS: 4.8/13, NBC: 3.8/10, Fox: 2.1/ 5, CW: 1.5/ 4

I think the numbers you posted for the Thuraday FInals are Wrong.

Per the Final numbers per each show, CBS didn't even have a show average lower than 13.6 million. and only WAT was below a 4.0 in the demo (3.6)

The FOX demo number also looks off.
the two shows that night had a 2.3 and a 1.9 in the demo, yet your average shows a 3.1 for the night.

In the future, can we save this forum just for questions for the daily podcast? Thank you.

I'd love to be able to edit TV's posts too. It would be a blast to post his newfound love and respect for Viva Laughlin. Marc, can I have access to TV-aholic's acct too?

Marc, not surprisingly, BACK TO YOU and TIL DEATH are not performing well. I've stated my theories here in your forum with regards to actors who have portrayed iconic comedic characters in the past taking on another high profile comedic role. It never works on the same level of success. It almost universally bombs.

With that being the case, I want to be fair. If these two shows aired on CBS Mondays at 9 and 9:30 or ABC, would we see a major difference? Do people just psychologically avoid going past the three main networks for traditional sitcoms?

Marc,

There are people who believe some TV series in the 1960's were adversely effected when they transitioned from B&W to color. One example I've heard was a series called "My Favorite Martian"... successful its first two black and white years and then gone the year after it went color when the ratings declined.

Do you think that any TV shows will have that problem when they start being viewed in HDTV?

Viva Laughlin scored a 1.2 in the 18-49 demo for its Sunday episode on CBS. What/when was the last firstrun, primetime episode of any show on CBS to do worse than the 1.2 18-49 demo rating?

I believe that was some reality show they aired on Saturday night a few years ago that premiered against NFL playoffs. The Will I believe was the name of it and it had like a 0.9 demo rating.

Marc,

With all the new and expanded ratings, what numbers will be used for archived, or final, ratings for show. In 10 years, when we look at the top 100 shows for 2007-08, will the list state Live Same Day ratings, Live +3, Live +7, C3, any other?

What are the Fianl FINAL rating numbers now?

Thanks!
