At this point what are the odds of the CW folding next season. Is their a chance that shows such as reaper, One Tree Hill and 90210 (if it does well in the ratings next season) will move to another network if the CW folds

Wasn't One Tree Hill supposed to end next season? As for GG, Reaper and 90210, I doubt any broadcast network would pick them up. Maybe MTV? But what are the odds...

I think it depends on a couple of factors.

* Has The CW bottomed out in ratings? If it continues to drop next season, you will probably see it last ditch effort in 2010-2011.

* Who pulls out of the deal? It is very likely that Viacom would kill there end of the deal and turn over operations to The WB. And if thewb.com platform is mildly successful, you just may she The WB back on broadcast.

* Will The CW be willing to expand away from just females if next season proves to be much too narrow? The MRC Sunday nights could easily prove that going after both men and women can bring a modicum of success. Namely targeted programming to the important demo that can go cross-gender. At this point Gossip Girl does nothing to promote the gender crossover. However 90210 can promote it under the guise of teen drama, similar to how both Smallville and One Tree Hill have gender crossover because they have elements that appeal to both genders.

* Does The CW embrace how their targeted audience watches television in this day and age? As of now, their video system sits at the bottom of those available by the broadcast systems. The interface is clunky, its slow and doesn't really get the job done. They really need to look at how ABC and FOX have changed over their systems to an interface that doesn't need page loads to get to the destination. Maybe they need to hook up with hulu.com or even thewb.com if it proves to be a decent platform. Until they do embrace that half their audience will watch it online over watching it on television, or at the very least understand how to manipulate them to get the eyeballs on the television the first time around, they will continue to have roller coaster ratings.

Viacom has no ownership in CW. Warner Bros. partner in the CW deal is CBS. CBS has its main network to distribute its material too. Warner Bros. has TBS, TNT, etc... to distribute their material too. With the long term viability of broadcast tv in doubt, Warner Bros. may not feel compelled to have a broadcast outlet over their multiple cable outlets and regular deals with the other broadcast nets.

Will ABC do the same? ABC's programming lineup is at least as female skewed as CWs.

I thought that cross-gender programming was Bravo Network's specialty. Wink

Other than a sometimes problem with volume control between video clips and commercials, I have found the CW website to work better than CBS/FOX/NBC. I spend so little time near ABCs website that I can't say if their curreent player is any good.

I agree. CBS's is by far the worst with Fox and NBC's having occasional problems. ABC however, has the best imo. I like how you can watch it in normal view, big, small, or full screen modes. The only problem is on occasion it freezes but as of lately you don't lose any of the content as the player stops.

Warner Bros. could have another NEW BROADCAST OUTLET, which is The CW (if CBS breaks the deal).

The CW is like The WB, struggling to perform on its early years!

You have more to expect on The CW and other networks. The CW hasn't SEEN what it is they SEARCHING/LOOKING FOR. It would be good if they aim two demographics, A18-34 and A18-49, the advertisers's favorite.
