The longer this lasts, the worse it will get. In today's multi-faceted world of viewing options, when you mess with a TV fan he or she will go elsewhere. And they may not necessarily come back. Remember what happened to HBO's The Sopranos after it was off the air for two years? At this point, even if the writers get what they want you have to wonder if the show they wrote for will ever be the same again."

Thanks for presenting the WGA response to Friday's meeting. It is unfortunate that interest in current programs probably will decline. As to whether tv viewers will come back--yes, they will, if the programs are compelling..However, this is not just about the short-term benefits for today. This is for future generations; if the Guild can't get a decent residual rate on content as delivered by future means--downloads, etc--TODAY, their ability to make a living will be severely tested. It's a freelance business, and the deferred payments known as residuals often make the difference between making it or not during the 'lean' years. The lessons of the past must be learned. Management never readjusted the rates as promised on aftermarket revenues from VHS, DVDS etc. It is unfortunate that the corporations are driven by greed and are not willing to share the wealth with the people without whom there would be no content. Period. And no, I'm not a writer, and in fact, am severely affected by the strike, myself, but I believe in the Guild's position 100%.
