Time's up for 'Megan Mullally Show'

Freshman daytime talker "The Megan Mullally Show" won't be back for a second season.

NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution delivered the news to the "Megan" staff Wednesday that it was stopping production immediately on the first-run syndicated strip. The news means that "Megan" is the first syndicated rookie of the 2006-07 season to get the axe.

The show will remain on the air through the end of the month, airing a previously scheduled mix of original and repeat episodes. NBC Universal is planning to work with each station currently airing "Megan" to find "potential programming solutions" that fit their needs following the show's departure, a NBC Uni spokesman said.

"We are very proud of the hard work and effort that our staff put into the production of this show," NBC Universal said in a statement. "And our host, Megan Mullally, is truly one of the most talented people in our business. We are grateful to have partnered with her on the show and are appreciative for her tireless commitment, effort and dedication to this endeavor."

The hourlong show, which launched in September, is averaging a 0.8 household rating season-to-date.

ouch. they are going to start by calling this the "will & grace curse". poor megan, but i understand why it's canceled. i gave it a chance, couldn't even take 10 minutes of her show. it was bland, plain, boring, i can only picture her character karen. the guests seem uninterested. i hardly saw audience interaction.

Poor Megan! I really wanted to like the show!

It might have done better as The Karen Walker Show, with Megan coming out in character and interacting with the guests and audience. It would have been a mind-bender.

Megan is an actress.
Not a comic.
Not an improviser.
And certainly not a personality/hostess.

The show was a mistake for all involved.

As great as Megan is, she just wasn't made for daytime. I saw a few minutes of the show the other day. It was bad, not Sharon Osbourne bad, but bad.

Megan made the mistake of not taking a break. She was just too associated with Will & Grace.

Sometimes the problem with actors and actresses in famous shows like "Friends" and "Will & Grace" is that they don't take a break between the jobs. People end up still associating them with a particular character, so they reject the new one. She also needs some good guests.

She could've come out with this show 5 years after the end of Will and Grace and it still would've been canceled. The show is just bad-- not so bad, it's entertaining in a trainwreck sort of way like The Sharn Osbourne Show. It's boring, bland, uninteresting, dull as dirt! It was just horrible and Megan seems to be the anti-thesis of Karen Walker!
