I predicted it and it happened. Big Grin
Lost repeats will replace According to Jim and In Case of Emergency for the next two weeks leading into new episodes of Lost. The two comedies are expected to return on Feb. 28th, but lets face it, by that time KoP will be pulled and Jim will simply slide back into the 8:30 slot. Still, ABC has the possibility of falling to fourth this sweeps period so I'm not surprised they did it. thefutoncritic.com has the story.

Even without doing that, I don't think ABC would've been 4th this sweeps. 3rd, for sure. In fact, I don't think they can pull themselves out of third because previous heavy hitters like Lost and Desperate Housewives aren't packing quite as much punch. But ABC has one monster (Grey's), several strong supporting players (Lost, DH, Betty, EM:HE), and The Oscars. No chance of catching The American Idol Network (really, should we even call it FOX between January and May?)... and CBS's February with the Super Bowl isn't really in striking distance either.

Yes you called this one. I'll join you in agreement that Lost repeats at 9/8c will become a permanent move.

Well they may not become a permanent move, but I don't see the comedies returning in this hour anytime soon.

Why don't they take this opportunity to premiere their new series 'Traveler'? They can easily move Men in Trees before Lost and put Traveler in post Grey's Anatomy timeslot, Men in trees gets about 10 million regular viewers and that number is more than enough as a lead in for lost.

Men in Trees would get slaughtered opposite American Idol. Traveler, from what I've read, doesn't seem compatible with Grey's. I'm betting that they hold off until the summer (or even next fall) on Traveler.

Yeah, Traveler is gonna be a lot more male-audience than anything post-Grey's can probably be. And unless they plan on dumping it without promotion... which, y'know, a possibility, but shame on them... they have to at least announce something in advance and do a little advertising. At this point I think Summer burn-off is, unfortunately, most likely.

Hindsight/in retrospect, Traveler would probably have worked better than Daybreak in the Lost hiatus slot... though practically anything would've!

There are rumors that Traveler will replace Boston Legal repeats later this season which would give them the huge Dancing with the Stars lead in.

They preempt "According to Jim" and leave on "The Knights of Prosperity" and then wonder why they're in fourth place.

They have hope that KoP will catch on. ABC clearly wants some new shows to do well so they can finally lay Jim to rest. If KoP doesn't improve in coming weeks, then I'm guessing Jim will return to the 8:30 slot where he will fit well with GLo.

Well it is understandable since According To Jim is on it's last legs and they probably hope that by a long shot, the ratings for Knights improves.... and yeah, it does look kinda silly... but I'm guessing they are doing it strictly because it has gotten some positive reviews.

KoP's numbers and retention did go up last week despite a slighly smaller lead from GLo. I really like this show and believe it deserves a chance to find an audience. If it doesn't by the end of its run, then fine. The network can cancel it, but I just hope ABC doesn't pull it prematurely.

Yet another example of ABC being a rudder-less ship headed for an iceberg. With the (perhaps permanent) addition of “Lost” encores at 9/8 p.m. on Wednesdays, the network will have at least three hours of regularly scheduled encores (depending on what they decide to do with 8-10 p.m. on Fridays). Concerning the comedy situation, ABC became the first network since the inception of television not to return a single comedy to its schedule. Unless the net again pulls “Lopez” or “Jim” out of the fire or renews one of its low-rated freshmen, it could become the first network to duplicate that fete.

I don’t believe for a second they will do it, but the powers that be at Disney need to show Stephen McPherson the door. During his tenure at the network, his only “successful” decision was getting ABC in the game on Thursday by moving “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Ugly Betty”. Even though he liked to take credit for fostering hits like “Grey”, “Lost”, and “Desperate Housewives”, those series were nurtured by his axed predecessors. McPherson’s legacy is a network that is a wasteland outside Thursdays, Sundays and wherever they decide to put “Dancing With the Stars”.

At least ABC doesn’t have that train-wreck in the making Jeff Zucker on the payroll.

Then I suggest they find some that somebody might actually want to watch. Knights bites. And I'm saying this as a huge fan of Donal Logue. The only way this stinker will catch on is if somebody at Worldwide Pants hires their own prosperous crooks to break into every Nielsen family home and steal all the diaries. All switching this and "Jim" told me is that Steve McPherson can't separate his own (terrible) tastes from the public's. "Jim," as bad a show as it is, was a big hit before he bounced it all over the place and sacrificed it to the "Idol" gods. A network robot with less chutzpah might have actually waited until they developed a sitcom hit of their own before they did that. Oh, but not Mr. McPherson. He's above such things.

But I do hope they leave it on. I hope they leave it on through episode 12. Then I hope they yank the scheduled airing of the 13th and final show (which brings some closure to the series) and replace it with an episode of "Notes from the Underbelly." A rerun of "Notes from the Underbelly." A rerun of "Notes from the Underbelly" that nobody watched in first-run.

You have proven my point that single camera comedies without laugh tracks are not for everyone. Oh, and Jim was never a big hit. It topped at about 9.5 million viewers and most of those were just stickin around from his plump lead ins during his first two years on the air (My Wife and Kids and 8 Simple Rules). This comedy is far superior than most on television and I think it ranks above some of NBC's Thursday sitcoms. ABC should air all the episodes. It not as if they have anything else to air.
