Any one with any thoughts about what kind of "bold" moves the broadcast networks may make for the 2007-08 season, since development season is beginning to start up in earnest?

For reference, here are some "bold" moves from recent seasons past...

*CBS moves "Survivor" and "CSI" to Thursday nights, setting up its future dominance.

*ABC moves "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ugly Betty" to Thursday, putting it in the ballgame for the first time...ever.

*ABC spikes "Monday Night Football" to cable sibling ESPN.

*NBC catches the pass and airs "Sunday Night Football" as the NFL returns to the network after a long hiatus.

Here are some of my (wishful) predictions for some "bold" moves for Fall '07...

*As has been long rumored, Fox decides to air the "American Idol" results show on Thursday, further chipping away at leader CBS and upstart ABC while NBC sinks further behind the other nets.

*NBC decides to retool its Thursday at 10 p.m. hour by moving long-running "ER" after 13 years in the slot. In its place NBC inserts critical darling "Friday Night Lights" while maintaining its four comedy bloc. Wanting to run the 14th (and final) season of "ER" rerun free, the net moves it to Sundays at 10 p.m. after "Sunday Night Football" wraps up and begins an onslaught of ads touting "ER's" non-rerun final season.

*CBS decides to salvage the slowly sinking "Survivor" franchise by cutting it down to only one "cycle" (i.e. season) per year. Replacing the long-running reality hour would be either "Amazing Race" or a new series in the spring. However, CBS would ready another season of "Survivor" just in case "Race" or the new series fails to attract an audience.

I didn't mean to concentrate solely on Thursday, that's just the way it turned out. I'll post other ideas whenever they come to me.

What are your thoughts or your own "bold" move predictions?

I would like to see A network go back to the 30 episode order for shows. As bad as 'Lost', 'Desperate Housewives', 'Heros', 'Jerico' and others repeat, they would be wise to order more episodes instead of having big gaps in the season. Use the alternative platforms (cable, online) to recover profits lost from reapeats.

Bring back the 'Quantum Leap Week' programming.
In the dead season of December and during the summer, The networks should program a Show of the Week, similar to what NBC use to do for 'Quantum Leap'. For 5-7 days of the week, show at least 1 hour, perhaps 2, of a specific show. The rest it while another show takes the spotlight.

Program a TRUE variety show. Take a page from the past to reinvent new programming. Have an 'Ed Sullivan' style of show. Comedians, Music acts, Extrodinary unknown people.

I would like to see networks start de-emphasizing the sweeps months of Nov, Feb & May in favor of more year-round programming. Isn't the "sweeps" concept getting obsolete?

And, yes. They should think about giving 30 episode orders to their biggest hits, and perhaps giving smaller orders (say 6 episodes) to new series until they prove themselves. They can keep their new shows flexible so that if something breaks out, it can be expanded with a larger order, and all with less upfront financial investment. Most new shows currently get a 13 episode order, but many of them never see more then six air. So why not switch that up and go with a "back 13" instead of a "back 9"?
