If on the live Big Brother After Dark someone made a comment like that I would have no problem with CBS. That is true "reality" TV; no editing is being done. But when producers have hundreds of hours of footage to choose from for 2 hours of TV and they choose to air that it is totally out of line.
If you recognize that the show is edited to 'tell a story the way the producers want to', why do you insist that they should not be able to tell a story that portrays one of the 'characters' in a negative way?

Because it is not necessary for viewers of the show to hear an attack like that. I have a 6 year old nephew who has autism and he is probably smarter than some of those idiots in that house. I am sure CBS could have found other footage if their goal was to portray a character in a negative way.

The bottom line is that CBS has no moral values (hence they have Julie Chen of their news division hosting the BB After Dark show on Showtime, which could be considered soft porn) and they aired the comment just to generate controversy so they could get some press about the show.

Al , would it have been better to bleep out the R word, but still show that he had said something that Shelia found offensive?
I think it's good that, if he is a volunteer , the organization knows the term he uses to describe the people he is suppose to help.

CBS's taste should certainly be questioned on this item, but CBS's 'morals'? Are you really suggesting that anyone that watches Showtime is without morals? Maybe it is anyone that employes a person that watches Showtime that is without morals? Or is it only the host and her particular employer that are without morals for 'participating' while the viewers remain 'untarnished'?

I have no problem with CBS airing the show on Showtime, and I don't care about the content on that show. The problem I have is that they would let Julie Chen be associated with the show. She is in their news division and how someone in the news division could be associated in any way with Big Brother is a joke. Especially considering her husband is Les Moonves. She would have lost her job on CBS News a long time ago if she was not banging the boss. She is that bad.

She is a terrible news host. Just awful. She was brought on back when CBS news was hitting some nasty lows at the end of CBS This Morning right before the Early Show. At that time, Moonves said she was such a good newsreader that he wanted her to do the Early Show's news. Turns out he was probably doinking her then. She can read news, but she was nothing special and is not qualified for the Early Show. The fact that Hannah Storm lost her job to Chen was saying something. She is however a great aspect of Big Brother because she's always screwing things up and changing the games outcome which is entertaining.
