Women's Murder Club

I hate to see this again. We had a long discussion Friday when somebody posted a reference from TV Guide's Ausiello saying WMC is not being renewed, and everybody that was on universally said that would be a horrible decision by ABC. It would be especially unsound if ABC chooses to renew DSM (which has been steadily falling in the ratings) over this more solid drama.

WMC has been a solid, stable performer for them on Friday nights, winning its timeslot, and in some cases, the entire night, in viewers. It's done better in its timeslot than anything else ABC has tried. Yes, it hasn't done great in the demo, but not everything has to be a home-run. ABC needs some stability on Friday nights, and WMC provides that. I will reiterate it: "ABC, please renew Women's Murder Club!"

Actually, we're now hearing from another thread on this forum and I think it was from Ausiello himself that WMC is in strong negotiations for a return this season on ABC. IMO, that would be a very strong move for them and perhaps paired with Primetime or a gameshow could improve ABC's Friday fortunes.

I agree -- very good decision for ABC to change their mind on this one. Although I don't know if Primetime is the best lead-in for it. With 20/20 as a lead-out, that'd be 2 hours of new on Fridays. I much prefer the idea of a game show or other type of reality show leading into it. Too bad Dance War can't come back in late Spring, because it seems to have a similar audience of 9-10 million viewers and mid 2s in the demo. Possibly new game show Wipeout, if it can be ready in time, but even better would be the next season of The Bachelorette, if it finishes shooting in time -- I know they planned for it to be a summer premiere, but honestly, wouldn't a mid-April use as a WMC lead-in be much better use for it?

No sense in wasting the Bachelorette on Fridays and I'm iffy on a gameshow since NBC already has one there. Although, if the upcoming Amnesia flops, then I would maybe try Duel or Wipeout there. I still think Primetime would give the night a really nice flow to it.

Those 20/20 airings were some of Friday 8pms best this season for ABC. Not to mention, the move was not promoted at all. Had 20/20 spent the summer airing 2 hour 8 to 10pm eps it would've helped imo. Remember vlis, these are chimps were dealing with here.

20/20 would never have fallen to these levels:
12/14/07 4.08 M 0.9
Yes that was an original ep.

I take that back. Zedman reported later in the discussion it was a repeat. Still...

that was a repeat:
12.14.07:

ABC:
8:00pm Men in Trees (R)
9:00pm Women's Murder Club (R)
10:02pm 20/20

Ya I fixed it. Still, results were less than promising for Men in Trees there and it was in no way compatible imo to Women's Murder Club. Come to think of it, aside from Primetime and 20/20, nothing really is.

That's what I have in my proposed Fall lineup: back to back comedies starring Cedric the Entertainer and Damon Wayans.
