Many, many years ago, I worked on the original version of "To Tell the Truth," CBS prime time.
Tom Poston was one of our regular panelists. Part of my job was to track the percentage, per panelist, of correct vs. incorrect votes for who was the real person. I went to the Executive Producer, Gil Fates with the information that Tom was correctly voting nearly 70%. This was way higher than the other, very bright panelists: Kitty Carlisle, Johnny Carson and Peggy Cass. Gil asked me to "quietly" shadow Tom from the moment he arrived at the studio until he sat down in his panel chair on stage. I was to make sure that no one passed any information in any way to Tom. I did this undercover work for about a month - Tom was totally clean. He was just incredibly bright and also very lucky. No one other than Gil Fates and I ever knew about this.
