Alright, as you know I know a little birdie working around who has an in with the show Reba and the CW. (He is the one who originally told me Reba would be a mid season replacement a month before it was announced.) Well, Reba will be awarded 9 more episodes of her hit sitcom, and will finish up filming this spring. This is mainly because the sitcom is pulling the best set of numbers. The CW though will not pick up the series for any future years. They are working on reviving shows from old networks, and brining back a few old favorites along with some new teen dramas to seal the CW into the sparkling child they want. So it looks like the final Season of Reba is before us....except Lifetime may pick up a spin off of the show, but that is a rumor at this point, it would focus on Van & Cheyene who move out of the house, getting their own place through real estate deal at the end of the series, and would be in the budget of Lifetime. If it goes, it will start with Cheynne having her baby, and the other cast will appear on occasion as guest stars.
Reviving old network skeins? I wonder what that means? Yet another revival of The Brady Bunch?
The former UPN and WB didn't have a lot of luck with reviving old network series. The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Family Affair were all yanked off the air relatively quickly. The Twilight Zone lasted out a season, and was quite watchable.
On the other hand, if The WB had picked up The Lone Ranger and taken it to series, it might have made westerns into a hit genre with a whole new generation, though it would have impacted the cast of One Tree Hill.
I think the networks should stay away from revivals as series. But I personally would love to see the Bradys back in a new made-for. Greg and Marcia in their 50s -- scary!

Quark?
Actually, I would love a new edition of Police Squad, but I doubt they could even get the rights.
Uh-huh. I think the discussion about the death of their father might be a bit of a bring down but they can give it a shot if they like. Or perhpas he'll be away on business.

Has this been officially confirmed yet? I am hoping it's true and that the shows finishes with an awesome finale. I don't know if I would watch Van and Cheyenne though. They are funny as supporting characters; not sure how great they would be as leads. The history for these types of spinoffs is pretty mixed. For every "Frasier", there seems to be about 10 "The Ropers", "Enos", and "Joanie Loves Chachi" type shows.

There were two statements in the original post that got my attention...
"They are working on reviving shows from old networks, and bringing back a few old favorites along with come new teen dramas..."
If that is not a recipe for success, I don't know what it. Why would The Powers That Be (i.e. Dawn Ostroff) at the CW want to recycle the garbage from other networks. Shouldn't the CW be trying to carve out an identity of its own? How is it going to do that with new versions of old series? If this is indeed the CW's new strategy, Ms. Ostroff doesn't have any business running a network. Les Moonves should show her the door immediately if she proposes these changes to him.
"...Lifetime may pick up a spin off of the show [Reba]..."
If there is a Cheyenne/Van spin-off, which could work if it is well written and the two characters are given a few extra I.Q. points (the fact that Joey remained just as dumb on his spin-off as on "Friends" may have led to its demise) and some good writers.
But, why would the spin-off by offered to Lifetime? If the CW is "high" enough on "Reba" to order more episodes, wouldn't they naturally want to possibly keep some part of the series around with a spin-off? The spin-off could be paired with another so-called family comedy and form a two-hour family block with the returning "7th Heaven" in the fall.

Well considering that the CW didn't seem to think that Reba was in it's target viewer demo, I can't see why they'd want the spin-off. I don't agree with their thinking however.
