NBC 4.6/ 7
CW 1.4/ 2

----------

Note: The fast affiliate results for Tuesday will be posted at PIFeedback by 12 p.m. ET. Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
American Idol (Fox), Dancing With the Stars (ABC), NCIS (CBS), Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
Most Outrageous Moments (NBC), Beauty and the Geek (CW), Women’s Murder Club (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox, as usual, took top-rated honors in the overnights on Tuesday. Second was ABC, followed by CBS, NBC and the CW. But powerhouse American Idol actually took a hit against of the first hour of an expanded Dancing With the Stars on ABC, with a 13.1 rating/21 share in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was down by 16 percent from the 15.6/25 for Idol on May 8, 2007. The first hour of the 100th episode celebration of Dancing With the Stars was third behind American Idol and CBS’ NCIS (#2:8.7/14), with a 7.5/12.

My pick to depart on American Idol tonight is, of course, the horrific Jason Castro. But since nothing is ever a given on this show, don’t be too surprised if underrated Syesha is sent packing.

Also airing in the 8 p.m. hour were two episodes (original and repeat) of NBC’s low-rated Most Outrageous Moments (#4: avg. 2.5/ 4), and soon-to-depart Beauty and the Geek on the CW (#5: 1.3/ 2).

The regularly scheduled portion of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars dominated from 9-10 p.m., with a very healthy 12.5/19 in the overnights. How do you like survivor Marissa Jaret Winokur? No wonder why Sony Pictures Television has signed her to host a daytime talk show in fall 2009.

Second in the 9 p.m. hour was Hell’s Kitchen on Fox (7.0/11), which is expected to win the time period among adults 18-49, followed by CBS’ relocated Shark (21 percent below lead-in NCIS), a repeat of Law & Order: SVU on NBC (3.3/ 5), and the CW’s Reaper (1.6/ 2). While a 1.6/ 2 is nothing to boast about, Reaper did manage to build by 23 percent out of Beauty and the Geek. As for Shark’s chance of renewal, it is still 50/50 at present.

The regularly scheduled edition of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU won the 10 p.m. hour, with a 7.9/13. Second was ABC’s relocated Women’s Murder Club (6.0/10), followed by a repeat of CSI: Miami on CBS at a 4.9/ 8. Comparably, retention for Women’s Murder Club out of the second half of lead-in Dancing With the Stars (12.7/19 at 9:30 p.m.) was just 47 percent. Start packing, Angie Harmon!

National Ratings in Prime-Time:
Week of April 28, 2008

It was another week of mixed leadership, with CBS first in households and total viewers, and Fox No. 1 in the three key demos -- adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34. But the sad reality of this seven-day period was all five broadcast networks declining year-to-year in each of the surveyed categories. Only lowly MyNetworkTV was on the plus side and that, of course, is a reflection of the almost invisible ratings from one year earlier.

Excluding a third-place finish in total viewers, ABC finished second across-the-board, trailing American Idol-ignited Fox by 17 percent among adults 18-49. NBC, which suffered the largest year-to-year losses, came in an unimpressive fourth, followed by the CW. Although MyNetworkTV executives are hopeful the network will surpass the CW next season, even the arrival of Smackdown! is unlikely to push it out of sixth place. Right now, the gap between the CW and MyNetworkTV is still too large.

In series-premiere news, CW reality/competition Farmer Wants a Wife was off, but not necessarily running in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour at 2.39 million viewers (#89 out of 96 shows) and a 1.0 rating/ 3 share among adults 18-49 (tied for #83). Comparably, retention out of lead-in America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #70, 4.19 million; A18-49: #51t, 2.0/ 6) was just 57 percent in total viewers and 50 percent among adults 18-49.

Here are the final national ratings for the week of April 28, 2008 (with percent change versus the comparable year-ago week in parentheses), followed by the top 20 ranked programs of the week. Keep in mind that this report included the first full week of the May 2008 sweep.

Thanks Marc.
Unfortunately, it looks like you are bringing news of another down week for the broadcast networks. ABC bucked the trend, but most shows look down week to week.

Side note: CBS made it work for CSI, NBC made it work for Law&Order: now, according to Ausiello at TVGuide it looks like FOX is going to try a House spinoff.

Mr. McPherson must pounce upon this sudden vulnerability of American Idol with the stealth and purpose of a ninja.

ABC needs the producers to expedite those Lost and Grey's season finales by about a week so that they're ready for week 4 of the Sweep. Call the editing and post-production teams, pay overtime, whatever, but get those shows mixed it time.

Since Monday, I've re-thought how Mr. McPherson might re-align ABC's final week in order to eke out a victory over FOX:

* Thu - 5.5 - new Betty / Greys / Lost
* Fri - 2.5 - new 2 hour AFHV finale / 20/20
* Sat - 2.2 - "Hitch" 3 hour broadcast preem
* Sun - 6.0 - 2 hour EMHE finale / 2 hour DH finale
* Mon - 6.5 - DWTS / 2 hour Grey's finale (postpone Bachelorette preem one week)
* Tue - 5.0 - DWTS 2 hour finale / Boston Legal finale
* Wed - 5.0 - Ugly Betty finale / Lost 2 hour finale
WK 4 AVG = 4.7

With four hours of Idol, FOX should be able to get a 4.2 for it's final week during this Sweep, so if ABC is just a nudge behind FOX by the end of Week 3, they could conceivably overtake FOX for their first May Sweep A18-49 victory of the 21st Century.

It sounds like they will add a character to House just to create the spinoff.

I read it's not going to be a doctor, but a private investigator character from Ausiello this morning.
